Robert Frost was born in San Francisco in 1874, but he spent most of his life moving from place to place, often returning to New England, the place of his later childhood and early adult years.
Robert was the first child born in his family. Frost's early childhood was filled with anxiety, since his father drank and gambled too much. Frost's father died when Frost was 11, leaving his mother with no choice but to move back home with her parents in Lawrence, Massachusetts.
Frost's first published poem appeared in the Lawrence High School Bulletin in 1890. While Frost could attend Harvard College, he attended Dartmouth College instead, because his grandparents thought he would find success there. Frost dropped out of-Dartmouth before his first year was over and began teaching primary school.
In 1894, Frost received his first payment for the poem My Butterfly: an Elegy. He worked as a reporter while still teaching primary school. Frost married his wife, Elinor White, in 1895. Frost and Elinor had their first child in 1896, a son they named Elliot.
In 1897 Frost continued his education at Harvard College, but by 1899 he had dropped out again. In 1901, Frost's grandfather died, leaving. him a farm in New Hampshire, which made it possible for Frost to support his growing family. Robert and Elinor had more children, and Frost wrote more and did several different part-time jobs-to make ends meet. He taught English literature, trained other teachers in teaching methods, and taught education and psychology classes.
In 1912, Frost could write full time. In 1913, his first book A Boy's Will was published. The success of this book brought him in contact with many important literary people; including William Yeats. Following this success, Frost published many literary works, including short stories, poems and a play. He made a living by lecturing, writing and sometimes teaching.

Can you believe everything that you read? It seems as if every day, some new articles come out about a new discovery or this or that. For example, water is bad for you, or good for you. The answer depends on which scientific study has just come out. People seem to not be able to decide which food items are healthy, how the pyramids were constructed, and why the dinosaurs disappeared. When we look for answers we can find findings from various researchers and scientists. But how trustworthy are they really?
As far back as 1726, Johann Beringer was fooled by his fellow scientists into thinking he had made an amazing discovery. The fossils(化石) of spiders, lizards, and even birds with the name of God written on them in Hebrew were unlike anything that had been found before. He wrote several papers on them and was famous for these.
only to have it revealed that they were planted by jealous colleagues to ruin his reputation.
When an early human being called Piltdown man was discovered in 1912, scientists at that time were wild with excitement over the meaning it had for the theory of evolution. This Piltdown man had hundreds of papers written about it over the next fifty years until it was finally discovered to be a complex hoax (骗局). The skull of a man had been mixed with the jawbone of an orangutan (猩猩)to make the bone of the Piltdown man.
The next time you read the exciting new findings of a study of the best scientist, do not automatically assume that it is true. Even qualified people can get it wrong, either on purpose or not. While we certainly should not ignore scientific research, we do need to take it whit a grain of salt. Just that it is accepted as the truth today does not mean it will still be trustworthy tomorrow.
41. What CANNOT we learn from Paragraph l?
A. Most people do not totally believe in scientists' theory as before.
B. Scientists still don't reach agreement on how the pyramids were built.
C. Different scientists have different opinions on the same question.
D. There are some new discoveries being made public almost every day.
42. What was the reason why Johann Beringer made wrong discoveries about the fossils?
A. His fellow scientists wanted to make fun of him.
B. His fellow scientists wanted to become famous too.
C. His colleagues made a mistake because of carelessness.
D. His colleagues envied him and cheated him on purpose.
43. The excited scientists at first thought that the Piltdown man_________.
A. was in fact a complex hoax
B. was a great scientific invention
C. would contribute to the theory of evolution
D. would help people learn about orangutans
44. What does the underlined phrase "with a gram of salt" in Paragraph 4 mean?
A. Happily. B. Generally.
C. Doubtfully. D. Completely.
45. The author may agree with the idea that_______.
A. scientific research is important although there may be wrong fin dings
B. methods of scientific research should develop with time
C. truths of science will never be out of time
D. only famous scientists are trustworthy
第二节 信息匹配(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
请阅读下列应用文及相关信息,并按照要求匹配信息。
首先请阅读以下有关压力产生的原因的介绍:
A. Frequently you can be running around all day trying to balance all your tasks at work and at home, yet still you fail to manage to tick everything off your list. Sometimes this can be due to the demands that are placed upon you being unrealistic, but often it simply comes down to poor time management and not setting your priorities.
B. While some people might adopt an unhealthy lifestyle due to lack of time, others may have an unhealthy lifestyle because .they are already stressed. Whatever the reason, an unhealthy lifestyle can reduce your ability to cope with stress, and in some circumstances it may actually increase your stress levels.
C. You may take on too much both at work and in your home life, perhaps because you don't want to let people down. If you do this, however, it will frequently lead to you stressing about having too much to do and not managing to achieve everything you have taken on. Trying to take on too much will also mean you won't be able to give what you do your best.
D. If relationships are strained at home or in the workplace, then it's very likely that you'll be stressed about them. Conflicts might occur due to disagreements about how things should be done - and so you might feel that you have to stand your ground to make progress - but in the end a lot of hot air will only contribute to your stress levels.
E. Some people don't have the ability to accept things as they are or realize that certain situations are out of their control. If you try to change something that you really can't change, then you'll just be creating unnecessary stress. Plus, all that time spent stressing about it means you'11 be unable to concentrate on the other things that you could be doing, which may make you even more stressed.
F. Stress may be caused by a non-work-related issue such as a serious illness in the family, having to care for dependents, moving house, or debt problems. Often these issues are unavoidable and not something that you can readily deal with, but it's worth trying to deal with them.
从下是一些缓解压力的方法。请将这些方法与上述造成压力的原因匹配起来。
46. While argument s may not wholly be avoidable, it makes sense to prevent conflicts whenever possible. Simply try to arrive at a solution that both parties are reasonably happy with. Always remember that frank discussion is better than bitter conflicts.
47. Changing a difficult situation is not always possible, and if that's the case then it is best to accept the fact that you can 't do anything. It may help to talk a situation over with somebody else, as they may be able to help you see it in a more positive light or from a different and less stressful perspective.
48. It may sound obvious, but better time management really can reduce your stress. Many of us waste a lot of time doing unimportant tasks, so make sure you always do the important jobs first. In a word, manage your time well.
49. Having a healthy diet, doing regular exercise, and getting enough sleep mean that your body will be able to cope with stress. Exercise in particular can be great for stress relief Also, by knowing you're leading a healthy lifestyle, you'll be in a more positive frame of mind and will be better able to cope with stress.
50. If such issues are causing you stress and an in- ability to do your job, then it may be best to take time off to deal with the issues. If there's an ongoing problem, then you could try to approach your employer to ask for more flexible working arrangements, which may allow you to cope better with those issues.

So, he called his neighbors together, and asked them to bury the old mule in the well and put it out of his misery.
At first the old mule shouted loudly, but as the farmer and his neighbors continued throwing the dirt on his back, a thought struck it: every time a shovel(铲) load of dirt landed on its back, it would shake the dirt off and step up! "Shake it off and step up… shake it off and step up!" The mule repeated that to encourage itself. No matter how painful it felt, the old mule just kept shaking the dirt off and stepping up! Also, they are afraid that they may get injured when having a PE class. However, about 70% of students think it important to take PE classes. They think PE classes can not only build up their bodies but also develop their sense of competition and cooperation.
读写任务 (One possible version)
The author mainly tells us a story about a mule, which fell into a well. Its owner wanted to give it up by burying it but it succeeded in escaping from the well.
After reading the passage, I think highly of the mule. I mainly admire it for its positive attitude toward the bad things in life. Though it was in trouble, it never gave itself up. Instead, he faced difficulties positively and with its positive attitude, the dirt didn’t bury it but helped it escape from the well. Everyone would face difficulties in our life. Be positive and don’t let negative thinking ruin your whole day. Just think positively and everything will turn up fine.
As for me, whenever facing difficulties, I will keep in mind that a difficulty is a challenge of life. If we face it positively, it will help us become strong. Only with such a belief can we achieve our dream.

45. A。作者态度题。根据最后一段的While we certainly should not ignore scientific research, we do need to take it with a grain of salt可知A项正确。
