A
Microphones are high-end electronic devices that are of great help at the time of a voice chat, video chat and recording. There are several problems that you might face. Some of the common microphone problems along with their solutions have been listed below.
If the device does not work
This is a common problem you might have faced at some point of time. If your device does not start, you must check whether the connections are in place or not. Some of the computers have panels (控制板)on the front which contain microphone plugs. In some computers, these devices need to be plugged directly into your sound card. If you are unable to find it, go through the manual and you will find the solution.
Poor microphone connection
This is another common problem you might encounter. If the microphone connection is poor, there must be some problems with the sound card. You can use a sound recorder to check out whether the connection is working properly or not. Record your voice. You will see a green line moving back and forth as you speak. If that happens, your sound card is in the right condition.
Additional problems
Most of the problems appear when the device is incorporated(使并入) in headphones that are commonly linked with a USB cable. If you face the similar situation, you need to make sure that the USB port connected is operational.
Moreover, if the operating system settings are not adjusted to the functioning of the microphone, the device might stop functioning properly.
These are some of the common problems you might come across. Therefore, always use the device wisely to make the most out of it. To buy the best microphones, you can go through the Internet. Online electronic stores provide customers with a majority of choices. Kliff says the best microphones available at Top End Electronics will help you meet all your requirements. Birds observe speed limits on the roads even if motorists choose to ignore them, a study has found.
On roads with higher speed limits, birds are quicker to fly to the air to avoid oncoming traffic, but where limits are lower, they wait longer. The behavior is related to speed restrictions and not the result of birds assessing (评估) the speed of approaching vehicles.
Scientists admitted breaking speed limits to carry out the study in western France. Motoring through the French countryside in a white car, they recorded the activity of birds standing on or at the edges of roads with speed limits of 20, 50, 90 and 110 kph.
The car was driven at, under or over the speed limits and a timer used to calculate flight initiation distance (FID) - the closest distance the car came before the birds flew out of danger.
A total of 134 FIDs were measured for 21 species. The researchers, led by Pierre Legagneux from Laval University in Canada, wrote in the scientific journal Biology Letters, "Birds had significantly (明显地) higher FID on road sections with higher speed limits. By contrast, car speed had no significant effect on FID, both when considering absolute car speed or the difference between car speed and speed limit."
Reacting to speed limits on roads is the result of birds adapting to what they consider as a "habitat characteristic", the scientists suggest.
"As road traffic directly causes mortality(死亡率) in birds, we expect birds to respond to road traffic in a similar way as they would respond to predation," said the researchers. "Species with longer FID are known to have smaller risk of getting killed by cars, suggesting that adjusting FID might be an adaptive way to respond to road traffic."
They added, "Our results show that birds change their FID according to speed limit rather than car speed. This strongly suggests that birds are able to associate road sections with speed limits as a way to assess collision risk."
FID increased with body mass, with smaller species waiting longer before taking flight.
31. The word "observe" in Paragraph I can be replaced by_______.
A. watch B. obey C. celebrate D. break
32. Birds wait longer before flying out of danger when_______.
A. speed limits are higher
B. speed limits are lower
C. the car speed is higher

33. Scientists indicate that birds' reactions to speed limits are due to______.
A. their bravery to coming dangers
B. their clever brains of special species
C. their adaptation to a "habitat characteristic"
D. the rise of the number of cars on the road
34. Which description of FID is TRUE?
A. A timer is used to calculate it for 20 species of birds.
B. The longer the FID is, the smaller risk of being killed by cars birds take.
C. Birds have higher FID on road sections with lower speed limits.
D. Birds change their FID according to car speed rather than speed limit.
35. What conclusion can be drawn from the study?
A. Birds change their FID according to car speed.
B. Birds can assess the speed of approaching vehicles.
C. Birds cannot link road sections with speed limits.
D. Birds observe speed limits to avoid oncoming traffic.

Half of all seven-year-olds are sitting for up to seven hours a day - almost half the time they are awake - according to shocking figures.
Only one in two is active for the recommended(建议的) minimum of 60 minutes a day. The girls are among the least active for the recommended time.
The findings come from detailed analysis of the activity levels of 7,000 children aged around seven from primary schools across the UK, who are awake for 15 hours a day. It shows that fitness levels of British children are falling faster than anywhere else in the world as obesity levels are rising. Their health could be at risk simply because they are sitting too much.
Researchers in London, Bristol and Cambridge monitored the duration(持续时间) and strength of children's daily physical activity levels between May 2008 and August 2009, using an instrument called an accelerometer(加速度计), fastened to a belt around their waist. The children took this off only when they bathed or went to bed.
Latest UK guidelines recommend children to take part in some physical activity such as sports, walking and running for at least an hour every day. They should also reduce time spent sitting down, although no maximum has been specified for this. The analysis showed that on average,
across the en tire sample, children managed 60 minutes of physical activity every day.
But the accelerometer readings also showed half the children sat for six or seven hours every
day, arid that half of them didn't reach the daily recommended exercise target.
Girls were less physically active than boys. Just over one-third of girls met the exercise target compared with almost two-thirds of the boys, according to a report in the online journal BMJ Open.
Professor Carol Dezateux from UCL Institute of Child Health, London, called for policies to promote more exercise among girls, and said it must be made easier for children to walk to
school.
36. The seven-year-olds are recommended to be active for_____.
A. half of seven hours a day
B. less than 60 minutes a day
C. at least an hour a day
D. up to seven hours a day
37. It can be inferred from the Paragraph 3 that______.
A. obesity levels of British children are falling faster 'than anywhere else
B. the falling of fitness levels results in the falling of obesity levels
C. British children are healthier than those in any other country
D. fitness levels of children are associated with obesity levels
38. From the research on children, we know that______.
A. half the girls sat for six or seven hours every day
B. children should wear the accelerometer all the time unless they bathed
C. the duration and strength of physical activity levels were monitored by a belt
D. half of the children didn't manage 60 minutes of physical activity every day
39. What's the purpose of Professor Carol Dezateux's calling for policies?
A. To encourage more exercise among girls.
B. To promote more exercise among boys.
C. To call for children to walk to school.
D. To make exercise easier for children.
40. It can be inferred from the last but one paragraph that _______.
A. girls need increase physical exercises
B. one-third of the boys meet the exercise target
C. girls are less physically active than boys
D. more than half of girls meet the exercise target

One hundred golfers enjoyed a beautiful day on Sunday, July 28, at the 2lst Annual Swing Along Golf Tournament sponsored (赞助) by the Music in the Mountain s Alliance. Once again, Lake
Wildwood Golf Course hosted the event.
The winning team consisted of Mark Stanga, Sam Swisher, Jeff Stanga and Jim Swisher. The broad smiles on the faces of the winning team were due to their making an eagle on five holes and scoring a net 46! For those not familiar with golf terms, "eagle" means two under par (标准杆数), which is quite an accomplishment.
No one drove off in the new Chevy, which was for the hole-in-one winner, but several golfers came within inches of winning the $10,000 prize for the 50-foot putt contest.
Tournament Chairman Jack Laird sent a big thank you to the team of more than 60 volunteers
who made this event another success.
Gary Blum tossed out more than l,200 golf balls; only one made it into the hole. David Halbrook was the lucky winner of the$1,000 prize.
The support of our many sponsors, underwriters and donors is very .much appreciated. The event was sponsored by the Penn Valley Rotary Club, Sierra View Medical Eye and Tri Counties Bank. Hole-in-one sponsors were Gold Rush Chevrolet and Nick's Custom Golf Cart. Abercrombie & Co, Mark Strate and Julia Amaral were generous underwriters. In addition, there were 40 sponsors and more than 70 donors. Indeed, "it took a village" to put on an event like this.
This annual tournament is one of MIM Alliance's major fundraising (募捐) events. The money brought in goes toward MIM Alliance's ongoing concert series and youth musical education programs.
Next year's tournament is set for July 27 at Lake Wildwood. We're already getting golfers
wanting to sign up.

If you like watching TV or playing music at home, then perhaps you need to make your home quieter for the sake of other family members and your neighbors. Here are some ways to make your home quieter.
Don't have the TV on too loud. Although it may be tempting to get the best sound effects from your large screen TV, it can be disturbing to others. If you like playing music, you might not have the full backing of your family when you are enjoying it. You might consider using headphones so that you can enjoy yourself without disturbing others.
Have some consideration for your neighbors. Bear in mind that people have different bed times. It might be a good idea to let the neighbors know if you're going to have a party, or will be taking on a DIY project that will be noisy.
Now you know more about how you can make your home quieter. Why not see how sound control products can allow you to play-your music loudly or enjoy the latest Hollywood blockbuster on your home cinema system, without disturbing other people in your home or your neighbors?

(One possible version)
Witkey is a new network platform on which employers can announce their requirements and offer some money to whoever offers the best answer or solution. People who are in favor of it think employers can get the best answer without paying too much. At the same time, the participants can improve their sense of competition by making the most of their talent. People who are against this think it is a waste of time and energy for those who are not chosen. What’s worse, some requirements are not reasonable; for example, some students ask others to do their homework.
(One possible version)
The author advises us not to have our TV on too loud and to use headphones when we are enjoying music so we shall not disturb others.
We all enjoy playing or listening to music in our spare time to relax. It is one of the best ways for us to entertain ourselves. That is why many people are so fond of music.
However, we should mind our music while enjoying it. Music that is too loud will disturb our neighbors, so we should be sure to turn down our music or wear headphones. Another good way is to fit sound control glass to greatly reduce the amount of noise that can be heard in your home, so that you can enjoy yourself without disturbing others.
In a word, we mustn’t bother our neighbors with loud music. Be considerate to others and you will find a way to keep your music to an appropriate level.
Boxes, papers, photographs, old CDs were thrown all over the floor可知,地板上扔的全是盒子、报纸、照片、旧光碟等,这使得Tracy的卧室看起来像是战争区。“have the look of” 意为“有……的样子/外貌”,故选C。
2. A。 She began to recall the good times she and Dan had spent... We try to hold our past...
Boxes, papers, photographs, old CDs were thrown all over the floor可知,她的卧室是一片狼藉。这里的 “the mess” 指Boxes, papers, photographs, old CDs,故选D。
6. D。根据下文的she began to tell me all about the mistakes that both she and Dan had made可知,因为这些美好的时光突然消失,她开始回忆他们所犯的错误,故选D。
7. A。 Boxes, papers, photographs, old CDs were thrown all over the floor以及something heartbreaking made Tracy’s heart...
8. C。根据下文的a little blue box in the middle of the floor可知,作者要在脑海里搜索一些话对朋友说时,注意到地板中间放着一个蓝色的小盒子,故选C。
9. D。根据下文的... that kept my friend going after ...
12. A。 She suddenly hugged me and said she was no longer filled with memories of pain and hurt可知,作者接下来所目睹的一切完全变了个样,简直令人难以置信,故选A。
