Transitions
are words or phrases that show the relationship between paragraphs or sections of a text or a speech. They guide a reader through steps of logic, time, or space. They are “bridges” that “carry a reader from section to section”.

Read the letter again and make inferences about the writer’s feelings. Share it in groups.
The writers don’t always tell you exactly how a character is feeling. You need to use story clues and what you already know. This is called making inferences (做出推论). Visualizing (形成思维图像) what the writer tells you can help you make inferences. Use this Inference Chart to help you.
1. I miss you so much! 我那么想念你！
miss vt. “想念，思念”
Dave misses his grandparents very much.
Dave非常想念他的爷爷奶奶。
Language points
miss作动词时还可意为“错过；没做到”，其后接动词时，应用动词-ing形式。
Mona was sad because she missed her train.
Mona非常伤心，因为她错过了火车。
miss还可用作名词，意为“女士；小姐”，此时m必须大写，常用于姓名或姓之前，尤指未婚女子。
Miss Smith is a popular writer.
史密斯小姐是一位受欢迎的作家。

fantastic adj. “极好的，美妙的”
We watched a fantastic play yesterday evening.

at high speed 意为“快速地, 非常快地”, 其中的speed为名词, 意为“速度”, at speed与at high speed意思相同。
He drives the car at (high) speed in the road.

★ at a speed of ... “以……的速度”。
The train is travelling at a speed of sixty miles an hour.
火车正以每小时六十英里的速度行驶。
5. We were screaming and laughing through the ride.
在整个乘坐过程中我们一直尖叫、大笑。
1) through是介词, 可它的意思不再是我们以前学过的“从……通过，穿过”, 而是“从(某事)的开始到结束, 从头到尾”的意思。

ride n.可数名词, 意为“乘坐, 搭乘; (乘车或骑车的)短途旅程, 旅行”, 有时也可指“距离”。

such as和for example都有“例如”的意思，但是它们的用法有所不同。
