If you have two left feet and you want to be a good dancer, what will you do
That's exactly what I did five years ago. At first, it was difficult for me to keep balance and I always spent a long time mastering simple footwork(步法) I am a typical person who has two left feet. However, once I mastered it, I immediately got crazy about dancing. I've become fitter, looked younger and felt more confident. I enjoy it so much that I will never give up.
It's very sociable(社交的) as well. You meet people and make new friends while dancing. Haven't you heard stories that dancing develops new romances My friends Joe and Rena just got married a few weeks ago after they met each other at a Ceroc workshop about three years ago.
The word "Ceroc" comes from French. It's a combination of salsa and jive (萨尔萨舞和摇摆舞), but it doesn't have difficult footwork. So it is more accessible to beginners.
Other popular sty les of dancing in the UK include ballroom, belly dancing, lindy hop, salsa, tango and tap dancing.
No matter what types of dancing you do, one thing is guaranteed - you will become fitter. Especially for office workers like me, dancing is a good exercise after a long day sitting in front of the computer screen. It also strengthens your muscles, and increases your physical confidence.
The aim of dancing is not to win a competition but to enjoy the activity. As long as you master the moves, keep the rhythm and most importantly smile encouragingly at your dancing partners, you will enjoy most in it.

The Vietnamese Government is much focused on improving the quality of English language teaching across the country. Over the past 5 years or so, a large number of backpacker teachers have been leaving the country. With backpacker teachers' leaving in large groups, there is a huge demand for foreign English language teachers who can meet the requirements to be eligible to work in Vietnam. Specifically, if you want to legally work as an English language teacher in Vietnam for a period of over 3 months, you need to prepare the followings:
an internationally recognised TESOL(对外英语教学)certificate;
a health check;
a university degree;
an academic transcript(成绩单)related to your university degree;
a police clearance from your home country.
Obtaining TESOL certification on arrival in Vietnam is a realistic option. It will almost certainly be cheaper than in Australia, the United States, Canada and so forth. There are some internationally recognised TESOL courses available in Vietnam, but like anything that costs money, you'd better do some research first.
There are public hospitals in each major city in Vietnam that are authorized(授权)by the government. They can conduct work permit related health checks for foreigners. Again, I'd advise teachers to consider meeting this requirement when they arrive in Vietnam.
I strongly advise you to have an ' apostille ' (劳注,标注) placed on the official documents you will bring with you to Vietnam - university degree, criminal record check and alike.
I've been living and working as an, English language teacher in Vietnam for nearly 7 years. I'm very grateful for the opportunities that have been offered to me in this truly wonderful country. I'm sure you'll have a similar view after you've been here for a period of time.

December 1st marks World Aids Day. People around the world join together to celebrate the progress in fighting AIDS.
A new device aims to make it easier to find AIDS and also lower the cost of testing in developing countries. The device is used to count disease-fighting white blood cells called the CD4 cell. HIV attacks and destroys CD4 cells, making patients unable to fight off infection (感染). Doctors often suggest patients use antiretroviral(抗逆转的)drugs to help the body’s natural defences become stronger for fighting disease. The new device can help doctors decide if the drug treatment is necessary or not.
The count requires a blood sample and a laboratory equipped to study the cells. This can be difficult to do in some African nations where many people have AIDS but testing laboratories are rare.
Rashid Bashir heads the bioengineering (生物工程) department at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He and his team have developed the new device. It is a 3-centimeter-by-4-centimeter device with all the equipment and chemicals needed to perform a CD4 cell count. "We want to bring the lab to the patient rather than the patient to the lab," he said. 'The device uses just a drop of blood. It separates the white cells from the red cells which carry oxygen. It then counts the CD4 cells immediately.
Rashid Bashir wants to cooperate with a business called Daktari Diagnostics. The company is working to market the device and develop a hand-held device to read the results. Xuanhong Cheng is a bioengineering professor at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania. She says combing process and giving results in one device is more helpful than other CD4 counters in development. However, Ms Cheng adds that it will be at least a few years before any of those devices can be found on the market.
36. We know that the device is created to______.
a. make it easier to find AIDS in people
b. help common people have stronger natural defences
c. make testing AIDS in people cheaper in poor countries
d. provide better antiretroviral drugs for people with AIDS
A. ab B. ac C. bcd D. abcd
37. What makes it difficult to perform a CD4 cell count in some African nations
A. That people are unwilling to do it there.
B. That there aren't enough testing labs there.
C. That no doctors know how to perform it there.
D. That it's hard to find people suffering AIDS there.
38. Rashid Bashir hopes that the device will______.
A. cure AIDS
B. provide oxygen
C. be very convenient to use
D. be sold on the market this year
39. What does Xuanhong Cheng think of combining processing and giving results in one device
A. Easy. B. Helpful.
C. Impossible. D. Inconvenient.
40. What is the main idea of the text
A. It will be years before completely curing AIDS.
B. New device aims to make diagnosing AIDS easier.
C. People around the world celebrate progress in fighting AIDS.
D. A lack of CD4 cells make patients unable to fight off infection.
D
Growing up in Florida, I witnessed the injustices (不公平) of back-of-the-bus rules and separate-but-unequal facilities (设施). In my 12 years of public school, I saw only white faces like me. My world was surrounded by what I knew even as a child was wrong and by what my parents taught me was right: Treat all people with respect regardless of their colors.
In August 1963 I was an 18-year-old freshman at the University of Florida. It wasn’t until 1962, however, that the first black students - seven in all - were admitted as undergraduates. If the number of the students in a school is more than 20,000, the school should admit students from different races.
On the day of the March on Washington, I joined the other students in my dormitory to watch the proceedings on TV. Like millions of people that day, I was shocked by the words of a young churchman from Georgia. It, I thought, is not only an important moment for the civil rights movement, but also for the beginning of the change.
I quickly learned that the change was very slow. By the time I graduated in 1967, the restaurant that I had once picketed(在…外抗议) and the movie theater I had protested against remained whites only. The road to equality, I came to realize, was long and winding.
There is no doubt that we have made great progress since the March on Washington. But the Journey to equality has been rough. Still, I am hopeful. After all, it is not only what Dr. King wanted for his children 50 years ago – freedom from injustice, a better life, and a country united as one people, but also it is what we all want for our loved ones.
41. What can we infer from this passage about the author
A. He is a white person himself
B. He looks down upon black people.
C. He works as a lawyer.
D. He is a college student.
42. The author's parents often taught him to _____.
A. give his seat to whites
B. work hard at his lessons at school
C. avoid getting in touch with blacks
D. respect all people
43. What can we conclude from this passage
A. King used to work as a lawyer in the court.
B. Black people used to be treated unequally.
C. It was King who started the civil rights movement.
D. The government took many measures to help black people.
44. What was the author's attitude towards civil rights movement
A. Opposed.
B. Active.
C. Negative.
D. Uncertain.
45. What does the author think of their achievements in the civil rights
A. They have won a complete victory in the civil rights
B. Black people have received what they demand.
C. They have achieved some victory, but it is not complete.
D. Black people are treated equally as white people.

第二节 读写任务(共1小题;满分25分)
阅读下面的短文,然后按照要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。
As a foreign teacher, I have been teaching in Chinese universities and middle schools for almost 4 years and have observed classes at all levels in China's educational system.
A typical English class given by a teacher from China would include three parts - reading 30-40 new vocabulary words, reading dialogues and listening to the teacher to explain 4-5 new grammar patterns. The last part would usually be in Chinese. During most of the time in class the students are either reading along with the teacher, or taking notes in their textbooks.
I described an English class because that is what I am most familiar with. It's actually not too different from what a Chinese class, math class, or even an art class might look like. The teacher lectures, and the students simply follow along, until they can give a correct answer. This system is good at creating students who are capable of memorizing a lot of information. I was shocked to find that my students who could hardly reply to "What did you have for lunch today " were able to recite an entire paragraph after just a few minutes of looking at the text. Obviously, the students taught in this system are not creative enough.

读写任务 (One possible version)
The author, a foreign teacher in China, describes a typical English class in China’s educational system. He pointed out that learning English just by memorizing will not encourage a creative thinking.
I do not totally agree with the author. Today, English classes are quite different because more and more teachers are trying to improve their teaching methods. Besides, before we can create something, it’s necessary to learn some related information, which can’t avoid memorizing.
One of the most impressive English classes I had was given by Mr. Wang last week. The topic of the class was Festivals around the World. We were divided into eight groups and led to the computer room to search the related information on the Internet. We discussed and shared what we had learned before the class ended.
As for English education, I believe it will become better and better for we have seen the government’s efforts to reform it.
