第二部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)
第一节 (共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
A.
There are a lot of structures worth visiting across the world, and here are four of them.
Marina Bay Sands
Architect: Moshe Safdie, “The Modernist”
Location: Singapore
The Marina Bay Sands was built like a pile of playing cards. As one of the most
expensive hotels in the world, it has the world’s longest rooftop swimming pool, designed as an endless pool and decorated with palm trees 57 floors above the ground. The whole structure cost 8 billion Singaporean dollars.
Sydney Opera House
Architect: J rn Utzon, “The additive architect”
Location: Sydney, Australia
Architect J rn Utzon won the Opera House international design competition after explaining that his design looked like a ship sails on the water. By the time it was opened by Queen Elizabeth in 1973, over 10,000 workers had been involved in its construction. The Concert Hall is always kept at 22.5 degrees Celsius when there is a performance, to keep instruments in perfect condition.
30 St Mary Axe
Architect: Norman Foster, “Hero of high-tech”
Location: London, the UK
The structure was built at the beginning of the 21st century and looks like a spaceship. Londoners think differently, having named it “The Gherkin” because it looks like a giant cucumber. It’s made up of 7,429 sheets of glass. The tower is scientifically designed so that the wind actually wraps around it, reducing its impact.
Stonehenge
Architect: Aliens
Location: Salisbury, the UK
Stonehenge is over 5,000 years old, making it a Neolithic (新石器时代的)
construction. Some of the giant stones were transported over 150 miles, but
scientists and historians are still not really sure how. The purpose of Stonehenge
is still being debated, but it appears to have been an early burial ground.

C. A cucumber-like glass tower. D. Famous opera performances.
22. Where will a music lover go

Forrest believes in returning the favor. The black Labrador (拉布拉多犬)
was rescued from Oregon last year and wasted no time trying to find a way to help others. In August, Forrest started training to become a certified
(具有证明文件的) rescue dog at the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation in California.
On May 28, after months of outstanding work, Forrest graduated from Search Dog Foundation’s program, which receives support from Farmers Insurance, and was paired with his lifelong partner, Tom Simons. The pair will spend the years ahead heading to emergency sites across the country to find and save those affected by natural and man-made disasters. Now, Simons and Forrest have settled in and are improving the relationship between them.
Search Dog Foundation (SDF) makes sweet stories possible by actively recruiting (招收) rescue dogs into their search dog training programs. Through these programs, dogs find care for life regardless of whether they graduate from the search dog programs or not. Dogs considered unsuitable for search and rescue are given a new career that better matches their skills or are adopted. All the dogs that enter the SDF’s search dog training programs have their healthcare covered for life.
For Forrest, the tough work required of a search dog to successfully find and rescue people from disasters came easily. According to Farmers Insurance, the “gentle giant” is a very big dog who is light on his feet and has strong legs and good endurance (耐力), and made fast work of training.
“Forrest did very well, showing trainers every day that he loved to hunt. He
enjoyed the pleasure of training,” the statement from Farmers Insurance added.

C. Grateful. D. Intelligent.
25. What will Forrest do after graduating from SDF’s program
A. Live with his trainer. B. Serve as a human partner.

D. It has strict graduation requirements for members.
27. Which of the following most likely contributes to Forrest’s great task performance
A. His real talent for hunting.
B. His good physical condition.
C. His great confidence in searching.
D. His close relationship with his partner.

When you play video games, what types of games do you play Do you enjoy creative, imaginative games like Minecraft Or are sports or racing games more your style
Another popular kind of video game is the role-playing game (RPG). Although RPGs may combine many elements from other types of games, the key aspect of an RPG is that, as a player, you assume the role of a specific character. Whether you’re in a fantasy, historical or modern-day setting, you interact with the game’s imaginary world as if you were the character you play.
Fascinating as modern role-playing video games are, they all have a very low-technology origin: the pen and paper tabletop (桌面) game Dungeons and Dragons (D&D). Created by Dave Arneson and Gary Gygax in 1974, D&D was the first RPG. Even though it wasn’t electronic, it had all the characteristics that RPGs have become known for: interesting characters, classes, abilities, races, and experience points. D&D players used pencils, paper, books and dice (骰子).
They used their imagination to create attractive storylines (故事情节) and, perhaps most importantly, had a lot of real, face-to-face social interaction with their friends. D&D set the stage for all the RPGs that would follow. Now, high-tech RPGs have become the choice of most young people. However, D&D is still played today by many despite the prevalence of the high-tech video games.
Players of RPGs usually focus on how much fun they have playing the game. However, besides all that fun, they are also learning a variety of skills that
will help them in school and their future careers. RPGs require a lot of reading, so they definitely help improve reading skills. Developing imaginative storylines
for characters requires a high level of creativity. As players develop their storytelling skills, they also learn how to think critically and solve problems as part of a team. Face-to-face interaction with friends also improves social skills.
28. What do the players need to do in an RPG
A. Choose a role. B. Design a scene.
C. Make up a story. D. Fight the enemy.
29. What do we know about the first role-playing game
A. It’s pretty easy to play. B. Players play it face to face.
C. The Internet is a must for it. D. It is a single computer game.
30.What does the underlined word “prevalence” in Paragraph 3 mean
A. Importance. B. Convenience.
C. Popularity. D. Improvement.
31. What does the last paragraph mainly focus on
A. Fun of playing RPGs. B. Tips for playing RPGs.
C. Specific rules of RPGs. D. Benefits of RPGs for players.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (心肺复苏术) is an important first aid skill to master and one that fewer and fewer people seem to take the time to learn these days. In fact, it only takes a few hours to get basic CPR training either in a classroom or online. Others may choose to get certified.
People pursue CPR certification for many reasons, in part because it can increase the chances of getting a job. CPR certification provides people a stronger sense of confidence in their skills. But certification is simply a card indicating that you have completed a CPR course. And it shouldn’t suggest that someone with basic CPR training but without certification is less qualified if faced with a potentially life-threatening situation. Therefore, it doesn’t matter whether you have a CPR card or not if someone has drowned or experienced cardiac arrest (心脏骤停). If you have been trained in CPR, with or without certification, you need to act.
Time is probably the main reason why people don’t obtain CPR training. But here’s the bottom line: CPR classes take only around two to three hours to complete, and many are conducted free of charge through organizations like the Red Cross. You can even take a free online CPR course if you can’t spare three hours in your week. Others shy away from things like mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. What many people fail to realize is that mouth-to-mouth is no longer a requirement for CPR and that chest compression (按压) is the focus of treatment until emergency medical services arrive.
By learning the facts about CPR training, you can make a choice about the options available to you. For more information, use the Red Cross CPR class locator and speak with an instructor near you. The best online training can be found through the National Safety Council’s first aid catalogue (目录).
32. What can we say about CPR certification
A. It takes a long time to obtain.
B. It is useful but not necessary.
C. It represents first aid qualification.
D. It is a professional medical degree.
33. What makes people refuse CPR training according to the author
A. Long duration. B. High learning costs.
C. Difficulty of the course. D. Misunderstandings about it.
34. What does the author do in the last paragraph
A. Put forward a plan. B. Make a conclusion.
C. Put an advertisement. D. Provide some information.
35. What is the text mainly about
A. How to perform CPR. B. How to do first aid training.
C. Facts about CPR training. D. Importance of CPR certification.
