Schools in southern China are using “smart uniforms” with chips (芯片) to know exactly where students are. Do you support it
Kong Yuming, 16:
I am for the “smart uniforms”, because they can help to create a safe campus (校园). As we know, what parents care about most is the safety of their children. Wearing the uniforms with chips, students can be located (定位) by parents at any time. It can avoid students from going to places where they shouldn’t be.
Cong Zhaohan, 15:
Why not have school uniforms with chips The uniform can find students and check what they are doing. It can encourage students to create more high-tech products. With the help of the GPS, they can help to prevent crimes against students.
Zhang Xianghao, 18:
I don’t agree with the idea. First, although such a uniform can help parents know where their children are, not everyone likes being watched, especially teenagers. They are sensitive (敏感的) about their private things. It can make them feel uneasy. Besides, it seems that such a high-tech product will cost a lot, more than poor families can afford.
Zhu Yuanlong, 17:
I am against this idea. It is likely to leak (泄露) personal information. With the coming of big data (数据), information has brought convenience to our lives. Meanwhile, the problem of personal information leakage has become serious. The more users there are, the more dangerous it will be.

It’s very important for us to learn about protecting the environment around us. Here is a 4R rule for us:
Recycle. Bottles, waste paper, glasses, plastic and so on can easily be recycled. By doing so, we can save lots of time and money. For example, coke cans are sent to a factory, where they are smashed flat(压平)and melted(融化)and the melted things are made for new coke cans.
Reduce. Millions of trees are being cut down to make paper. If everyone uses a little paper carelessly and throw it out, soon we would not have any trees left. We should use both sides of paper. Reduce boxes and cups which can be used only once. Other things are also being wasted, and people don’t know what to do with the waste in big cities. So it is necessary for us to reduce the waste.
Reuse. We should always think of reusing the usable things before throwing them out. Give our clothes we do not use or the ones which are too small to the poor. With a family, we may pass on such clothes to younger brothers or sisters.
Repair(修理). If one of the legs of our table is broken, we can repair it instead of throwing it away. If we want to change for better ones, it is better for us to sell the old things or give them to other people who can use them after doing some repairing.
The more we do, the better environment will be.

“Look, Mom! He paints like me!” Eight-year-old Alexandra Nechita had just discovered Pablo Picasso’s artworks for the first time. The art world agreed and began to call Alexandra “Petite Picasso”. This talented artist has been turning heads in the art world ever since.
Even at age two, Alexandra spent nearly all her time on her coloring books. Afraid that their daughter spent too much time alone, Alexandra’s parents took her coloring books away. They hoped she’d start to jump rope or play with dolls. But taking away her colors was like taking the air out of her life, Alexandra began to color on paper her mother brought home from the office.
When Alexandra was four, her parents began to notice the figures she drew. They were abstract (抽象的) and looked just like Picasso’s works, with four eyes and two faces. She started painting with watercolors and then with other paints.
Alexandra’s classmates would sometimes laugh at her paintings. But her primary school teacher saw talent in her drawings. She helped eight-year-old Alexandra organize her first exhibition at a local library.
Within a year, Alexandra had several other exhibitions. By then, she had completed more than 250 paintings. Her exhibition at the famous Mary Paxon Gallery brought her to the attention of national art critics. She began to appear on television, in news and talk shows around America.
Today, Alexandra still paints in her special style. Admirers have spent a large amount of money buying her paintings. Through various charities, Alexandra shares her wealth: with those in need around the world. While the start of a new school year is always exciting, this year was even more so for some students at White Cloud Primary School. They became the world’s first kids to be taught by an electronic teacher. This electronic teacher is not a human-like robot walking around the classroom. Instead, he is a computer-created head that appears on students’ computer or phone screens when needed. His name is Bill.
Created by technology company Smart Machines, Bill is able to show human-like behavior (举止;行为). He is designed to teach a special program about environmental-friendly power created by the sun and wind. This program, started in 2005, used to be taught by human teachers.
Just like human teachers, Bill is able to immediately answer the students’ questions and opinions about the topic. Thanks to computer cameras, he is also able to see and react (反应) to students’ physical actions. For example, if a student smiles at Bill, he answers by smiling back. This two-way exchange helps get the students’ attention. More importantly, it allows the program developers to improve Bill’s behavior and knowledge base when needed.
The program has been a great success according to Smart Machines spokesman Robert Frost. Frost says, “What is interesting to me is the children’s reaction to Bill. He really draws their attention.” Frost thinks kids don’t find the experience of being taught by smart machines as strange as older people because they have grown in a time of computers and smart phones.
It is doubtful, however, that human educators will lose their jobs to Bill any time soon. For one, this talking head’s knowledge base is not large. More importantly, even the smartest computer programs can’t guess and react to all the unexpected situations that educators face daily. Bill’s future might be as a “personal tutor (家庭教师)”, providing kids with one-on-one help for different subjects and topics.
31.What is Bill
A.A human-like robot. B.A kind of computer game.
C.A computer recording tool. D.A computer-created talking head.
32.How does the two-way exchange help the program developers
A.It lets them correct students’ mistakes. B.It allows Bill to answer more quickly.

A.kids B.older people C.smart machines D.program developers
34.What is Bill NOT good at doing
A.Attracting students’ attention. B.Understanding body language.

It’ll be a nice sport, and I’ll be able to do something good at the same time.
Jason Moore, 18 This summer, I’m going to volunteer with Special House Program. They build good, low-cost houses and sell them to families that are not very rich. They’ll teach me what to do, so I’ll help people and also have a chance to learn how to build houses.
Trish Anderson, 16 I’m going to teach kids who have trouble reading. I’ll work for a program called Reading For Life. Every day, I’m going to help kids choose and read books that they like. I want to be a teacher and I love children and reading, so this is going to be a great experience for me.

According to some researchers, you should not praise children for everything that they do. It does not help them build self-confidence.
Most parents and teachers agree that praise can help increase children's self-confidence--the more, the better. However, according to some researchers, only proper praise is good for children. If adults praise everything children do, it makes children look for praise all the time, not trying to do their best. “Teachers should not say things like good job or nice work whenever a child does anything. They should encourage them to continue to improve,” some researchers advise.
Another idea is that children with high self-confidence are happier, and do better at school. About this, Marshall Duke, a researcher in children, says, “High self-confidence brought in by too much praise does not make children happier, get more, or become able to do more. Finding a child’s advantages and developing them can help build confidence more than too much praise can. ” Praise also loses its effect if it is given equally to all students.
“It’s important to tell children the truth about what they’ve done. Honest feedback (反馈) is far better than empty praise,” Duke adds. “People have got into the habit of not telling children when they’re wrong. That makes it hard for them to deal with difficulties when they grow up. That’s just how the world is.”
46.According to some researchers, if parents praise their children too much, their children will ________.
A.always look for praise B.increase self-confidence
C.become strong D.do better in their studies
47.In order to help children build self-confidence, some researchers advise parents to ________ .
A.make them live more happily B.let them do more difficult work
C.help them do better in school D.encourage them to improve
48.Which of the following is TRUE, according to the passage
A.Praise makes children become successful.
B.Children don’t know what they’re really good at.
C.The same praise for all children has no meaning.
