If you want to take a close look at a dolphin (海豚) in its natural habitat (栖息地) , there’s no better place to
do it than at Monkey Mia, the only beach in Australia that dolphins visit every day.
The wild dolphins of Monkey Mia started getting used to people in the early 1960s, when local fishermen
started throwing them fish. Soon the news of friendly dolphins swimming around Monkey Mia began to spread,
and before long the beach became very popular. However, by the 1980s, researchers had noticed a worrying fact
— as adult dolphins became more dependent on humans for food, more and more of their babies died. Things got
so bad that 90% of the babies failed to grow up. Luckily, the local government started to control dolphin feeding.
Today, only a small number of dolphins visit the Monkey Mia beach every day. And they are only fed a little
fish so that they still go out hunting(猎食) and teach their young survival(生存) skills. Visitors can only feed the
dolphins when they are allowed. “We only feed them around 10% of their daily food,” said Luke Skinner, a
staff member there. “This makes them go and hunt for 90% of their food.”
The dolphins that visit Monkey Mia every morning draw more than 100,000 visitors to the beach each year.
Visitors can get close to the dolphins, play with them and learn about them and their habitat.

Jennie looked out of the car window. It was hard to wait for her father to help her. Before the accident, she
used to be able to jump out on her own. Now she had to be pushed everywhere in a wheelchair. Once they were in
the house, the family sat down together at the kitchen table. Mom got a snack for them. Jennie was happy to be
home at last. It was so much better to be here than at the hospital.
“We know how hard it is for you to get around in the wheelchair. School will not be easy when you go back
either,” said Jenny’s father. “We thought you might like to have a special friend to help you. What would you
think of having a service dog ”
“How could a dog help me ” asked Jennie.
“A dog could help open doors for you or pick up things you drop. It could even help push your wheelchair. A
service dog could go to school with you every day to help you get around so you could do your work,” said
Jenny’s father.
Jennie thought about it. She had been afraid to go back to school. Maybe if she had a dog, she would not feel
so shy.
The next morning, Jennie and her parents went to the kennel(养狗场). They met the dog trainer and the dog,
Lady. Lady did not run over to Jennie, but waited until she was called. Then she rested her head on the little girl’s
lap.
Jennie thought she was the best dog ever. The trainer would come to their home the next day with the dog.
She would work with Jennie and Lady, so they could be a team.
Finally, the day came when Jennie and Lady would go to the second grade class together. Lady pushed the
front door of the school open. It made Jennie feel good not to need other people to help her so much. Inside, there
were numbers of other children waiting to say hello.

sb. to do sth.”(想要某人做某事)可知,用 to tell,故选 B。

一感:feel;二听:hear、listen to;三让:let、have、make;四看:see、watch、notice、look at;半帮助
help。
