新闻报道的结构一般分为四个部分：
标题、导语、主体、结语。
标题是新闻的题目，是编辑对最有新闻价值内容的浓缩、概括、提炼和再创造。撰写标题是为了撷取新闻要点、诠释新闻意义、吸引读者阅读。在今天繁忙的现代社会中，报纸的读者大多是标题浏览者。
导语是消息开头的第一段或第一句话，它扼要地揭示出消息的核心内容。
主体是消息的主要部分，它用充足的事实表现主题，是对导语内容的进一步开展和阐释。
新闻报道的结语一般是最后一句话或者一段话，通常对全文内容作概括性的总结，或对新闻事件的发展趋势作出预测。有时，作者根据报道的事实在结语中提出令人深思的问题。
日期的表达： 两种表达方法：“日+月+年”和“月+日+年”。年份要使用数字，同时要注意年份的前面要用逗号来隔开才行；月份要使用英语单词中的月份来表示；日要用基数词或者序数词来表示，注意月份和日之间不需逗号隔开的。
例如：2002年1月17日
写作：January 17(th), 2002或January seventeenth, 2002读作：January the seventeenth, two thousand and two
或者写作：17(th) January, 2002或the seventeenth of January, 2002
读作：the seventeenth of January, two thousand and two
日期介词的使用：若指在哪一年或哪一月，用介词in；若具体到某一天，需用介词on。

中文人名的写法：大多用拼音表达，先姓后名，也可以先名后姓；若有英文名，就先名后姓。例如：王二小，拼音 Wang Erxiao, 或者Erxiao Wang；如果他英文名叫Peter, 可以叫做 Peter Wang。
中国地名的写法：中国国家规定，汉语地名的翻译一般以汉语拼音为准，首字母大写，字与字之间不分开，也不再用大写。如：Beijing, Shanghai, Shijiazhuang,等。城市可以直接表达，一般不加city, 如果加，应表达成the city of Beijing；但有其他地方读音，或者已约定俗成的地名，使用特别名称。如：Urumchi乌鲁木齐，Lhasa拉萨，Tibet西藏，Inner-Mongolia内蒙古等。
