I don’t ever want to talk about being a woman scientist again. There was a time in my life when people asked constantly for stories about what it’s like to work in a field dominated(受控的) by men. I was never very good at telling those stories because truthfully I never found them interesting. What I do find interesting is the origin of the universe, the shape of space-time and the nature 自然;天性; 本性of black holes.
At 19, when I began studying astrophysics(天体物理学), it did not bother 使(某人)烦恼me in the least丝毫; 绝;根本 to be the only woman in the classroom. But while earning my Ph.D. at MIT and then as a post-doctor doing space research, the issue 问题started to bother me. My every achievement-jobs, research papers, awards-was viewed through the lens 透镜; 镜片of gender(性别) politics. So were my failures. Sometimes, when I was pushed into an argument on left brain versus(相对于) right brain, or nature versus nurture(培育), I would instantly fight fiercely on my behalf and all womankind.
25. From Paragraph 2 we can imply that people would believe the author’s failures were because of ____________.

B.Her students’ performance has brought back her confidence.
C.Her female students can do just as well as male students.
D.More female students are pursuing 追求science than before.
Today I research and teach at Barnard, a women’s college in New York City. Recently, someone asked me how many of the 45 students in my class were women. You cannot imagine my satisfaction at being able to answer: 45. I know some of my students worry how they will manage their scientific research and a desire for children. And I don’t dismiss 摒弃; 对…不屑those concerns. Still, I don’t tell them “war” stories. Instead,I have given them this: the visual 视图of their physics professor heavily pregnant doing physics experiments. And in turn they have given me the image of 45 women driven by a love of science. And that’s a sight worth talking about.
27. What does the image the author presents to her students suggest
A.Women students needn’t have the concerns of her generation.
B.Women have more barriers on their way to academic success.
C.Women now fewer problems pursuing a science career.
D.Women can balance a career in science and having a family.

It's easy to feel sorry for ourselves. But all it takes is to remind ourselves of the true beauty of life to lift our spirits. Recently this came with the attention-grabbing performance of Nightbirde.
24. How can you make yourselves feel good according to paragraph 1
A. By fixing your attention on singing.
B. By reminding yourself of life's true beauty.
C. By enjoying others' encouraging performance.
D. By lifting your spirits to appreciate the beauty.
The contestant, Nightbirde-her stage name, recently entered the TV reality show. Looking small on stage, with an attractive smile and a beautiful voice that filled the auditorium(听众席), the 30-year-old, Brenda introduced herself to the judges. She chose the name after many nights dreaming of birds singing in the darkness. She woke one night to hear birds singing by her window as if it were the morning. For her this symbolized hope. She had stage 3 breast cancer and was battling it. Regardless of her condition, she explained that she wanted people to see her as being "so much more than the bad things that happen to me" through singing.
25. Why did Brenda name herself "Nightbirde"
A. Birds could sing beautiful songs,
B. Night birds' singing gave her hope.
C. She often saw beautiful birds by her window.
D. She had a lot in common with the singing birds.
26. What did Brenda want to convey at the end of her performance
A. Life is full of happiness and hardship.
B. Being happy helps her through to the final,
C. She made it in spite of her past tough years,
D. Everyone can choose to be happy at any time.
As she simply said at the end of her performance: “You can't wait until life isn't hard any more before you decide to be happy.” That one sentence seems to sum up Nightbirde's life over the past few years.
27. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text
A. Nightbirde's Smile Shines in Her Singing Performance
B. A Singer With Cancer Surprised the Audience
C. It Is a Privilege to Choose This Happiness
D. A Performance Spread Hope and Light
A joyful Nightbirde's smile lit up the stage. Her performance was a reminder to perhaps many of us that there's a lot to be happy about, and what a privilege it is to be able to choose this happiness.

Imagine being able to see perfectly in the dark. This vision has become a reality thanks to a newly developed technology. Now, by simply wearing a pair of glasses, you can drive safely at night, walk home in the dark, or even explore dark forests and caves without holding a flashlight!
28. What's the purpose of writing paragraph 1
A. To introduce the topic of the text.
B. To give the background information.
C. To guide readers to read the passage.
D. To stress the importance of seing in the dark.
29. What does the underlined "minute" in paragraph 2 mean
A. Short.
B. Soft.
C. Tiny.
D. Thick.
This exciting innovation(创新) came to light at the Australia National University. The technology is composed of a thin film that will be placed on the lenses of regular glasses. It is inexpensive to make, and is lightweight. The thin film is made of nanometer-scale crystals. It is so minute that it is 100 times thinner than a strand of hair. Regardless of its size, its performance is impressive.
The international team has made the invisible visible, and it will be available to all. “Our technology is able to transform infrared(红外线的) light, normally invisible to the human eye, and turn this into images people can clearly see, even at distance,” lead researcher Dr. Rocio Camacho Morales said in the press release. The new device is able to function at room temperature. And as the new technology is not large like its predecessors(前身), it has many future applications. Researchers foresee using this night vision for autonomous vehicle navigation and medical imaging. Once this new night vision is available to all, it could save lives. Drivers will be able to navigate better at night, especially when driving on unlighted roads. Police can use them when searching at night, and hikers who lose their way can feel more confident walking in the dark.
30. What can we know about the new technology's predecessors
A. They are small for researchers to carry.
B. They will help police to make a search at night.
C. They can make infrared light visible in the dark.
D. They have fewer functions than the new technology,
31. What does Mohsen Rahmani think of the technology
A. It still needs improvement.
B. It is part of the existing technology.
C.It has already been put into practice.
D. Many users feel confident with it.
The innovators are excited to move from the lab towards making practical applications available for all. "While this is the first proof-of-concept experiment, we are actively working to further advance the technology." Mohsen Rahmani, lead developer of the nanoscale crystal films, said. The many uses are exciting and seeing in the dark opens up a new world for all.
32. What did the paper published in Nature mention
A. The previous climate models.
B. The switch of carbon dioxide.
C. The changed function of Amazon rainforest.
D. The concern expressed about climate change.
The other day, significant concern was expressed in a paper published in the journal Nature--based on an extensive long-term study running from 2010 to 2018. It pointed out that large belts of the Amazon rainforest are switching from being a net sink of carbon dioxide to a net source of carbon dioxide instead.
33. Why were scientists afraid to see such titles
A. Forest fire had happened more recently.
B. The tipping point had varied beyond their expectation.
C. The Amazon rainforest may not support itself any longer.
D. These titles may scare tourists away from the rain forest.
This is very bad news, especially as it comes on top of other news suggesting we may be closer to a greatly changed and more dangerous climate than previous models would have suggested.
Environmentalists and climate scientists have long worried about the tipping point at which the Amazon rainforest can no longer sustain itself, so it was no surprise that many scientists were frightened on seeing those headlines. A closer read, however, suggests this is not the type of "game over" assumption.
34. What is the direct cause of deforestation
A. Man-made fires.
B. Natural forces.
C. Rainforests' death.
D. Water shortage.
The paper-entitled “Amazonia as a carbon source linked to deforestation(毁林) and climate change”-does not paint a picture of unavoidable decline driven by unstoppable natural forces. Instead, the team of authors, led by Luciana V. Gatti, point to significant human influence as the main driving factor in the switch. Specifically, man-made fires linked to cattle farms and cattle feed growing in southeastern Amazonia are causing both direct deforestation, as well as ecosystem stress and an increasing of the dry season- leading to greater tree deaths and instances of fire nearby too.
35. What will probably be talked about in the following paragraphs
A. What the future holds for human beings.
B. Why the Amazon rainforest has suffered a lot.
C. How the Amazon rainforest reacts to the change.
D. What people can do to change the present situation.
News that the Amazon rainforest may be moving from sink to the source is indeed a deeply troubling development. It makes both moral and practical sense that activists and scientists were ringing the alarm loud last week. It's important, however, that we do not mistake urgency for inevitability. The future is still in our hands.
