A New Viewing Platform at Camley Street Natural Park
There’s a new viewing platform added to Camley Street Natural Park. The platform is designed to bring architecture (建筑) and nature close together. It is a peaceful place to relax and helps people discover nature, especially wildlife. You’ll have a look at kinds of birds if you’re lucky.
The foundation
The platform is founded with the help of the New Architects: Finland UK Exchange Program, which brings together new architectural talents from Finland and the UK to explore cities’ ever-changing relationship with water.

To find out more about the inspiration for the design, please visit www.viewpointlondon.fi/.
The Extra Use
The platform is also an important new learning base for Camley Street Natural Park. It will be used as an outdoor classroom and a place to host workshops for school children. It will give children views of the canal and other wildlife and a chance of getting close to nature.

Much of our thinking about health is based on wishful thinking. But science provides clear and simple advice for a healthy life. Graham Lawton explores the evidence. Graham proves that you don’t have to be a health and fitness extremist to be reasonably healthy. He has rounded up the latest and strictest health research and changed it into useful advice on all the big health issues: diet, weight loss, exercise, sleep, ageing and so on.
Graham, New Scientist feature writer, is not the common health expert. He sometimes eats fast food. He has a gym membership but rarely uses it. And he takes medicine to keep his blood pressure under control. He neither has a diet plan nor a 6-week program to keep fit and thin.
But he does have a much better weapon: science. In a talk, Graham explains the basic science, tells people some of the secrets of science, teaches people to use the ability of judgement to tell the good from the bad, and helps them to see beyond the headlines. The talk allows people to eat healthily, lose weight, and sort the truth out from science facts.
But he loves outdoor sports. Last year Graham cycled over 1,200 miles and ran the same distance of 15 marathons. He often goes swimming outdoors and walks up eight flights of stairs to his desk instead of taking the lift. He eats his five copies of fruit and vegetables a day, keeps enough water in his body, and doesn’t eat much meat. Despite all the bad habits. his good ones seem to be winning. Graham is 50, but his “biological age” was recently measured as 45.
24. What can we learn about Graham
A. He has a very strict diet.
B. He has some bad eating habits.
C. He looks down on common health experts.
D. He always bases health on wishful thinking.
25. What does Graham’s talk in paragraph 3 cover
A. Health and science.
B. Words as weapons.
C. Functions of medicine.
D. Ability and confidence.
26. What does the last paragraph mainly tell us concerning Graham
A. His indoor sports.
B. His way of thinking.
C. His healthy lifestyle.
D. His copies of health books.
27. Which is the most suitable title for the text
A. The Professional Ways to Do Sports
B. The Secrets of Living a Healthy Life
C. The Unique Path to Scientific Success

African countries have retrieved some historic heritage (遗产), which directly reflects the important development of human society, from European countries. Recently, Germany signed a deal for the return of hundreds of valuable artworks from the Kingdom of Dahomey in the 19th century, in what is today Benin.
But many artifacts (手工艺品) are still unluckily missing and some are on their way back. One such object is an eight-legged seat from the old kingdom in Uganda. The important artifact now sits at a museum thousands of kilometers away in Britain. The wooden seat is housed at the University of Oxford. It is one of at least 279 objects there taken from the Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom.
Apollo John Rwamparo is a deputy prime minister of Uganda. He really values the country’s cultural heritage. He requested the British to return the artifacts. Ugandan officials are preparing to meet with the University of Cambridge in Britain about the return of such historical artifacts. The school has an unknown number of artifacts from Africa. Through many efforts, an artifact was returned to its home.
The British Museum holds a large collection of artifacts from Africa. Rose Mwanja said Uganda’s commission had been trying hard on it and believed it could have some good effects. She is Uganda’s commissioner for museums. She added she could start with those that are more willing to cooperate.
Many of the artifacts from Africa cannot even be found. That led to an organization started by late Congolese art collector Sindika Dokolo. The organization offers to buy African art from collections in foreign countries. By 2020, when Dokolo died, his group had successfully recovered 15 items. However, for African governments, the recovery of artifacts remains a struggle and will take much time.
28. What does the underlined word “retrieved” in paragraph 1 mean
A. Attacked. B. Recognised.
C. Given up. D. Taken back.
29. Where is the artifact of the eight-legged seat at present
A. In Benin. B. In Uganda.
C. In Germany. D. In Britain.
30. What is Ugandan officials’ attitude to their country’s cultural heritage
A. Concerned. B. Curious.
C. Uncaring. D. Confused.
31. Which word best describes the recovery of artifacts
A. Frightening. B. Doubtful.
C. Effortless. D. Challenging.
D
One million species (物种) face the risk of dying out, more than ever before in human history, according to a UN report released in May. And humans should be responsible.
The Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) based the assessment (评估) on some 15,000 sources considering the causes and results of environmental changes over the past 50 years.
The findings are clear and alarming. The researchers have found that about 25 percent of the world’s plants and animals are at risk of dying out. These include sea and land animals. Even the domesticated (驯养的) animals are at risk; Over 9 percent of the domesticated animal species used for food and agriculture might have been lost.
There are some big problems. This rapid decrease of the natural world endangers global food safety and quality of life. For example, about 4 billion people rely on natural medicines, produced by the disappearing species, for their health care. And losses of species that pollinate (授粉) plants threaten up to $577 billion in crops each year.
The researchers found five drivers responsible for the unpleasant news. They think at the top of the list is the change of land and sea use. The change in ecosystems towards agriculture and other human developments has led to changes in the natural living space of species. It is followed by the direct overuse of creatures (harvesting crops, cutting down the trees, hunting and fishing) and climate change, including rising sea levels and increasing extreme weather events, wildfires, floods and droughts. The final causes of species’ dying out are pollution, and the spread of non-native species that can displace or kill native plants and animals.
The researchers say it is time for humans to make a change. They think maybe a new global way to save food and refuse waste in our life could turn the tables. Whether that is possible is an open question.
32. What is the main purpose of the first paragraph
A. To introduce the topic of the text.
B. To introduce the schedule of the report.
C. To introduce humans’ sense of responsibility.
D. To introduce the history of human development.
33. What does paragraph 3 mainly show
A. The reliability of the findings.
B. The species of animals worldwide.
C. The seriousness of the species’ loss.
D. The risky experiences of the researchers.
34. What is the biggest threat to species’ survival according to the researchers
A. Climate change.
B. Natural disasters.
C. The direct overuse of creatures.
D. The changes of their living space.
35. What are the researchers in favor of
A. Changing our living habits.
B. Spreading non-native species.
C. Limiting native plants and animals.
D. Stopping discussing the food problem.

Daniel and Lucas are twins. They are teenagers, studying in the same class. Their teenage life is rich and colorful. Tony is their grandpa, whose age is 70 this year. The two grandsons like to take exercise with their grandpa and even go out on adventures.
In the summer of last year, they paid a visit to Stone Mountain Park with their grandpa. They had the opportunity to spend the day with their grandpa, seeing the various beautiful sights and attractions. One thing that three of them had really desired to do was climb to the top of the mountain. Stone Mountain isn’t a very high mountain and fortunately there are some walking routes to the top of it, but for the two teenagers, along with a rather old grandpa, it’s a difficult task.
Daniel and Lucas were much more interested in the walk than their grandpa, and they viewed it as an exciting adventure. But climbing the mountain was a rather big challenge for Tony, who was old and thin. He decided to start the slow walk up to the mountain.
It seemed like that Tony was taking forever to climb just a short distance, but considering his personal safety, he had to remind himself that it took him two steps to equal his grandsons’ one step. When he walked closer to his grandsons, he had to stop for a while to regain energy, and then tried to catch up with them, over and over again.
Tony was very tired. He just wanted to arrive at the top of the mountain as soon as possible to enjoy the beauty of the mountain top. But the twin grandsons were not focused at all on the trial of climbing the mountain. On the contrary, they were simply enjoying the journey of the walk. They enjoyed all that they had seen and all that they had heard along the way up to the top of the mountain. They stopped now and then to look at every large rock and observe the unusual plant formations. Suddenly, they found a strange plant. Daniel called out, “Grandpa, here is a special e and have a look.”
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Tony was hurrying towards his grandsons when he fell down. Daniel and Lucas wondered how to get their grandpa to the top of the mountain.

Dear Richard,
I am glad to hear from you. Having read your extracurricular reading plan in which you intend to read two classic books a month. I can’t help but clap my hands.
The plan is so excellent that it inspires me to make a plan of my own. However, with a busy study schedule, I just can’t find enough time to devote myself to reading. Luckily, I see the possibility to read my favorite books from your plan. Therefore, I’ll also plan to spare some time to read classic books so that we can exchange our reading experience.
Yours sincerely,
