Text 21
Last Friday, a storm swept through two villages in the PingGu District, destroying fourteen homes. Seven others were so badly hit that their owners had to leave them and fifteen others had broken windows and broken roofs. One person was killed and several were badly hurt and taken to hospital. Altogether over two hundred people were homeless after the storm. A farmer, Mr. Tang said that the storm began early in the morning and lasted for over an hour. “I was eating with my wife and children,” he said. “When we heard a loud noise, our house fell down on top of us. We tried our best to climb out but I saw one of my children was missing. I went back to find him. Luckily, he was safe but scared.”
Text 22
On the afternoon of May 28th, there was a car accident on Nathan Road. As a result, the road was blocked. The two drivers were arguing and both of them said that the other was wrong. However, the other drivers were not interested in knowing whose fault it was. They were waiting impatiently and just wanted to be able to leave. Finally someone called the police. Two policemen soon arrived. They cleared the road immediately and tried to control the traffic. Then the police took the two drivers to the police station. There, the drivers described the course of the accident, saying that it was not their own fault. However, the policemen decided that both drivers were wrong because they had driven too fast and carelessly. The two drivers also had to take the alcohol test. Fortunately, they did not drink any alcohol before driving. Otherwise, the result would be more serious!
