One possible version:
Doing volunteer activities is meaningful!
Recently, we have done a survey about the students’ volunteer activities. According to the survey, we find that more than half of the students have never taken part in any volunteer activities. And only 32 percent (of them) join the activities from time to time. There are two causes of the result. Five eighths of them think they have too much schoolwork so that they can hardly have time for volunteer activities. The rest of them show no interest in it.
However, volunteer activities are very meaningful. Through volunteer activities, we can help more people in need. Also, it’s good for us to learn to get along with others. Moreover, we will get happier and more confident.
To do volunteer activities, I think it’s a good idea to join some charities. And we should keep a balance between schoolwork and volunteer activities.(译林版)2022-2022初三英语下册9BU1单元质量调研

The fingerprint unlock is my pared with numeric passwords, it can help me unlock my phone more quickly. I think the pattern unlock is not safe. When you’re unlocking your phone, other people might see the pattern and memorize (记住) it. Furthermore, it’s too easy for thieves to break the code.
Student B
My favorite is the fingerprint unlock. Everyone’s fingerprint is unique. So I think that’s safer. Some people like to use numbers as their passwords. They often use special numbers, such as birthdates and telephone numbers. I think this is extremely unsafe.
Student C
I think using fingerprints to unlock smart phones is the least secure (可靠的) because fingerprints can be copied using some kinds of technology. I prefer the face unlock. Other people cannot unlock your phone unless you allow them to.
Student D
I prefer the fingerprint unlock, as no two fingerprints in the world are the same. I think the least secure method is the pattern unlock because too many people use patterns shaped like “Z”, “L”, or “W”, which are easy to figure out. In the future, I guess there might be a voice unlock. I’ve heard that everyone has a unique voice. When you speak, your phone will recognize your voice and unlock itself.
45. Which of the following is pattern unlock
46. How many students prefer the fingerprint unlock
A. One. B. Two. C. Three. D. Four.
47. Why does student D think the voice unlock is safe
A. Because everyone’s voice is unique.
B. Because it frees people’s hands.
C. Because people can easily change their voices.
D. Because you don’t need to worry about forgetting your password.
B
Many people have a fear(害怕) of public speaking. According to a study, it has an influence on 3 in every 4 people. This fact is surprising and worrying, as most jobs require some speaking ability. The following will help you to make a speech better.
Write note cards. Write main ideas on your cards. Don’t write details. Put in some fun facts, questions, and other activities on the cards to share with the class. Don’t look at your note cards for a long time while speaking. If necessary, you’re only going to have a quick look at the card for information, not read every word.
Smile at your class. When it comes time to speak, there’s nothing that draws your class into your speech than a good old-fashioned smile. Be happy, because you’re about to teach your class something they didn’t know before. Studies have shown that smiles are infections. That means once you smile, it’s hard for everyone else not to smile. So if you want your speech to go off well, smile. That will make everyone smile and maybe those smiles will make you actually smile.
Make eye contact. Nothing is more boring than listening to a speaker who looks at the floor or at note cards. Relax. Your class is made up of your friends and you talk to them all the time. Talk the same way now. Have a look at every person in the classroom at least once. That way, everyone will feel like you’re communicating with them. Also, you know you’ll look like what you’re talking about.
Use hand motions. Move your hands along as you talk, using them to express your key points and keep the class interested. It will also lead your nervous energy into a better place.
48. How many points are mentioned in the passage
A. Three. B. Four. C. Five. D. Six.
49. In Paragraph 3 of the passage, “smiles are infections” means ______.
A. smiles can be passed on B. it’s hard to smile
C. smiles keep people fit D. people should smile every day

Soon Benny had cut off all the hair on one side, with a J in the middle. He stood admiring his work, and just then Jessie came to see what he was doing.
“Benny!” she cried. “What are you doing ” Then she began to laugh.
“Oh, Violet, come and see!” she called. “Watch looks so funny.”
Jessie laughed and laughed until she almost cried. Violet laughed until she did cry.
Then she could not stop crying. She cried and cried. At last Jessie made up her mind that Violet was really sick.
“You must go to bed, Violet,” she said. She helped her carefully into the boxcar and put pine needles (松叶) all around her and under her. Then she wet a handkerchief in the cold water of the brook and laid it on her little sister’s hot head.
“I wish Henry would come home!” said Jessie. “What shall we do ”
When Henry came at last, he looked at Violet and said that maybe she had a cold. “Maybe she sat too long by the brook,” he said.
“If Violet is very sick, she ought to go to the hospital,” said Jessie.
“Yes, I know that,” said Henry. “And we don’t want her to go to a hospital if we can help it. We should have to tell her name.”
“Yes,” said Jessie. “Then Grandfather could find us.”
The two older children sat up with Violet. They put cold water on her head. But after dark Violet shook all over, and Jessie was frightened. She covered Violet all over with pine needles, but still she shook. They could not get her warm.
“I’m going to get Dr. Moore,” said Henry. “I’m afraid Violet is very sick.”
Then Henry started to run. He ran even faster than he had run in the race. Down the hill into the town he ran, until he came to Dr. Moore’s house.
“Please come!” he cried. “Violet is very sick!”
The doctor said, “Come and get into my car.”
He did not ask Henry which way to go, but the car went up the right road. When they came to the woods, he said to Henry, “Stay here in the car.”
He ran alone up the hill to the boxcar. It seemed like magic that he knew where to go.
(Taken from The Boxcar Children)

It’s been said that life turns on small things. Sometimes it’s hard to see how small choices can change your life. But when put together over time, the little things can make the biggest difference.
The theme of Success for Teens is “Little Things Matter”. The book helps teens identify (识别) small, positive (积极的) choices they can make in their lives to help them reach their goals. Lots of teens don’t realize how the little choices in their lives can have lasting influences. Often they focus on (专注于) the bigger events, such as a major exam, a big game or competition, or choosing a college. The little things, however, can go unnoticed unless your teen understands how important they can be.
The little things that lead to success are mostly easy to do. Help your teen identify a few areas in everyday life where he or she can make small, positive choices. It might be as simple as getting up on time, prioritizing (按重要性排列) their schoolwork, putting in an extra 10 minutes of practice or using some spare time to help someone else.
Nineteen-year-old Kyle Freas used to be on his school baseball team and would play every day after school. When the season was over, he had an empty three hours a day, so he started spending one third of such extra time daily, looking for ways to help other kids. Over the last few years, his project has raised thousands of dollars to help abused, homeless and sick children. Kyle spent just a little time each day doing something that ended up benefiting (有益于) a lot of kids. The important thing to understand is that Kyle made the small and positive decisions necessary for success.
Make sure your child understands that even though the results of the positive choices may not be seen right away, they are building on each other and taking him or her on a path that will lead to success.
54. What can you learn from paragraph 2
A. Dealing with big events is the most important in one’s life.
B. Little choices seldom have lasting influences on one’s life.
C. Teens should try to focus their attention on big choices.
D. Many teens fail to realize the importance of little choices.
55. Which of the following words can be used to describe Kyle Freas
A. Kind-hearted. B. Creative. C. Brave. D. Confident.
56. Whom is the text most probably written for
A. Teenagers. B. Parents. C. Pupils. D. Teachers.
57. The writer mainly discusses the relationship between ________.

We live in the age of envy. Career envy, kitchen envy, children envy, food envy, holiday envy. You name it, there’s an envy for it. Human beings have always felt what Aristotle explained in the 4th century BC as pain at the sight of another’s great wealth, became angry about the feeling of “those who have what we should have”.
But with social media, clinical psychological doctor Rachel Andrew says she is seeing more and more envy in her consulting room (咨询室), from people who “can’t achieve the lifestyle they want but which they see others have.” Our use of social media including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat, she says, makes us feel even worse.
To solve this problem, we could try to change the way we use social media. Rachel Andrew explains that most the time, people use Facebook passively (被动地), lazily reading instead of posting, messaging or commenting. It is interesting when you realize it is the passive usage that is supposed to be more harmful than the active.
Rachel advises knowing more about the differences between unhealthy envy and its healthy forms. Just as hunger tells us we need to eat, if we can listen to it in the right way, the feeling of envy could show us what is missing from our lives that is really matters to us, Rachel explains. But at the same time, ask yourself, what would be good enough
Introduction ●Envy is the 74 you wish you had something that someone else has.
The new problem with envy ●People are so much hurt by envy that the 75 of people who have to see a doctor is increasing .
76 to reduce the envy ●Change the way we use social media from just passively reading to posting, messaging or commenting 77 .
Conclusion ●We should tell unhealthy envy from its healthy forms. ●When envy appears, 78 we can listen to it properly, it won’t show us what really matters to us.
