Learning the language of a country isn't enough. If you want to know the manners of your foreign friends, you will probably be surprised just how different they can be from your own.
A visitor to India should remember that people there are impolite(不礼貌)to use the left hand for passing food at table. The left hand is used for washing yourself. Also in India, you might see a man shaking his head at another to show that he is disagreeing(不同意). But in many parts of India, a shake of the head means agreement. Nodding your head(点头)when you are given a drink in Bulgaria will most probably leave you thirsty. In that country, shaking head means“yes”, a nod to show“no”.
At a meal in countries on the Arabian Peninsula, you will find that your glass is repeatedly refilled as soon as you drink up. If you think you have had enough, you should take the glass in your hand and give it a little shake from side to side or place your hand over the top.
In Europe, it is quite common to cross your legs when you talk to someone, even at an important meeting. Doing this in Thailand, however, could bring about trouble. Also, you should try to avoid touching the head of an adult--it’s just not done in Thailand.

When you are invited to an American family, do remember the following rules: First, you’re supposed to bring the host a small gift, for example, a nice cup or some beautiful flowers. Second, please arrive on time. You’re not supposed to be there too early or too late. Both are impolite. Third, while eating ,you should say something good about the dishes or the host’s cooking skills. Finally, don’t stay too long there. When you say goodbye, don’t forget to thank the family for their invitation again.
So learn as many different manners as you can and you will be welcome wherever you go.
