Rabbits also mean good luck in Western culture. People think they will be lucky if they meet a rabbit. Another tradition for good luck in North America and the UK is to say “rabbit” on the first morning of every month.

There are many small wonders that human eyes can’t see. Thanks to photomicrographers(微观摄影师), we can see the amazing small worlds.
Zhang Yefei is one of the photomicrographers. In the past two years, the 41-year old engineer from Jiangsu has shot(拍摄) the eggs of hundreds of butterflies and moths(蛾) in his free time. His photo of moth eggs won him a top 20 award(奖) at the 2022 Nikon Small World Competition in October.
Looking for moth eggs is very difficult, because they are often really small. Zhang usually takes a magnifying glass during his trip into the wild. He uses it to look for the leaves with eggs on them.
To take photos of eggs, Zhang uses a microscope and some special tools. But a photo can shoot only a small part of the egg. To fully show an egg, he first takes about 500 to 1,000 photos. Then, he uses a computer technology to turn the photos into one. It often takes him about six hours to finish one piece of photo, with the longest one taking 21 hours. “I’m not a full-time photomicrographer, so I don’t have enough time to shoot and make photos.” Zhang said.
Although it has many difficulties, taking photos also brings Zhang surprises. While he uses LED lights to light the photos, the temperature can help the incubation(孵化) of the egg. So he was able to see how a larva(幼虫) turns into a butterfly.
“I’ll try and find out more interesting things about the small world and bring them to light,” Zhang said.
31. What will a photomicrographer probably take pictures of
A. Stars. B. Moth eggs. C. Elephants.
32. Which of the following statements is TRUE
A. Zhang Yefei won 20 awards at the 2022 Nikon Small World Competition.
B. It is easy for Zhang Yefei to look for moth eggs.
C. Zhang usually spends much time making a piece of photo.
33. What’s the meaning of the underlined word “magnifying” in paragraph 3
A. 放大的 B. 缩小的 C. 智能的
34. When Zhang saw how a larva turned into a butterfly, he felt _______.
A. surprised and happy B. angry and sad C. tired but excited
35. The passage is probably from _______.
A. a magazine B. a story book C. a diary

I’m a piano teacher. I can feel clearly how talent and hard work make a big difference to my students.
36. __________________ For example, some of my students just spend less than half a year learning to play the piano well. But other students need to learn for years. Many of my talented students learn faster than I did before, but talent doesn’t always bring a good result. When playing the piano seems easy to a student, he or she sometimes finds it boring and then gives up. 37. __________________
Some of my students work very hard. 38. __________________ I teach them again and again and they never stop practicing. However, it just does not work for these students. In my eyes, it is not necessary to do everything very well. When you really don’t have any talent for something, the best way is to give up. 39. __________________
40. __________________ If you want to do the best, you need to follow your talents and work as hard as you can. Don’t give up half way.
A. Then you can choose what you are truly interested in or good at and put all your heart into it. B. In fact, not everybody was good at playing the piano when they came to the world. C. Both talent and hard work play important roles in learning. D. And talented students sometimes have other things they enjoy more, so they give up, too. E. But they still can’t play the piano beautifully.

Becoming a Minimalist(极简主义者)
I had too many things. My bedroom was often in a mess(杂乱). I had shelves with dirty books I never read and CDs I didn’t listen to. My drawers were filled with clothes I never wore. I was getting upset because I never had any space in my bedroom. Then I read something about minimalism(极简主义).
Minimalists suggest that you only keep the most necessary and important things and get rid of(处理掉) everything else. After reading about minimalism, I feel encouraged(受到鼓舞的) to solve my problem.
I started clearing out a lot of the things which I didn’t use. I collected(收集) bags of clothes to give to charity(慈善机构). I sold some of the CDs and books online. Although I knew that I would never need these things again, I still found it very difficult to get rid of them. My brain tried to stop me from letting them go. I said to myself, “I might need that in the future!” or “Won’t I be sad if I lose that ” But the thing was, I knew I couldn’t keep everything.
After getting lots of things out of my room, I actually became quite excited to see the tidy room with some fresh space. And a tidy room also makes me have a clear mind. The main idea behind minimalism is to cut down what you own and really value(珍惜) the thing you have. It’s not easy to be a minimalist. Many people around us often tell us that it is better to have more things. Ads(广告) try to make us believe that we will only be happy by spending more money buying more things. Of course, I’m not a perfect minimalist — I’ve only just started. I still own a lot of things which I don’t really need, but I think this was a good start. In the future, I will be more mindful of what I buy. And I will make an effort(努力) to get rid of what I don’t need.
