There is a kind of bird called starling (椋鸟). A few starlings were brought to the United States from Europe more than a hundred years ago. Now they are found all over the United States.
Starlings are mostly black. Their mouths are straight and sharp (尖的). They are about six inches long with short tails. Their feathers sometimes seem to change colors.
Starlings like to live in groups of many birds. You will know when a group of starlings is nearby. They will make a lot of noise.
Some birds have beautiful songs. They always sound the same. People often know a bird by its song. This is not true about starlings. They can make many different sounds.
Starlings are also very hungry birds. They eat plants, strawberries, and small insects. Starlings do something that is not very nice. They eat so much that there is no food for other birds. When starlings come to an area, they often drive away other birds.

Sometimes I really doubt whether there is love between my parents. Every day they are very busy trying to make money for my schooling.
One day, my mother was sewing(缝) a quilt. I silently sat beside her. “Mum, is there love between you and Dad ” I asked her in a very low voice. With surprise in her eyes, she stopped her work for a while. Then she said, “Susan, look at this thread. It can hardly be seen, but it is really there. It makes the quilt strong and durable. If life is a quilt, love should be a thread. Love is in-side.
I couldn’t understand her until the next spring. At that time, my father suddenly got sick seriously. My mother had to stay with him in the hospital for a month. After they were back, my mother helped my father walk slowly on the country road every day. They were so kind to each other and it seemed they were the happiest couple.
After two months, my father still couldn’t walk by himself. “Dad, how are you feeling now ” I asked him one day.” Susan, don’t worry about me,” he said. “I just like walking with your mum. Then to our surprise, on December 24, she said she really wanted a bike more than anything else.
Now we didn’t know what to do. It was just too late. We were busy with Christmas dinner and packing children’s presents, parents’ presents, a brother’s present and friends’ presents till mid-night. So there was no time to take to buy “right bike” for our little girl. Thinking we were parents who would make their child unhappy, we felt sorry and sad.
Suddenly my husband had an idea. “What about making a little bike with clay(黏土) and writing a note that she can trade in the model bike for a real one ” So he spent the next five hours carefully working with clay to make a small bike.

She looked at me and asked, “So, does this mean I can trade in this bike for a real one ” Smiling, I said, “Yes!” Tracy had tears in her eyes when she replied, “I would never trade in this beautiful bike Daddy made me.
