参考答案
Paragraph 1:
Having recognized Whitney from the pictures posted online, Barton drove to her home
immediately. Without any hesitation, Barton sent her to a famous hospital in the big city, where he
worked as a doctor. In spite of a hard day’s work, he studied her rare disease late into the night.
Besides, he gave special attention to her case. After a long struggle, the battle was won. When
Whitney came back to life, she found herself surrounded by many people including Barton.
Paragraph 2:
Tears of joy flooded Whitney’s eyes. However, she always worried the final bill because she
was positive that it would take the rest of her life to pay it off. Days later, the bill was sent to her
room. She was afraid to open it. Finally she looked, and the note on the side of the bill caught her
attention. She read these words: “Paid in full with a glass of milk.” (Signed) Dr. Barton. What she
had seen touched her greatly and prayed silently: “Thank You, God. Your love has spread through
human hearts and hands.”

M: I have noticed that a lot of people around here are very healthy and hard-working.I thought all
Americans just ate hamburgers and pizza and sat in front of the TV all day long.
W: Ha-ha. Well. our culture and society has become a lot more health-conscious than it was ten
years ago.
M: I have heard a lot of people talking about organic foods, and even growing their own
vegetables!
W: Yes, things are different now. I think most people are just more aware than before, whether it is
about themselves or the world. There is so much information out there. People are less ignorant
than they were before.
M: More attention has been drawn toward protecting the environment.
W: I agree. But there are also many problems that we still need to overcome. Let's not get into
that.
M: Focus on the positive, right So, what do you do to play your part in a healthy society
W: I try to avoid driving my car as much as possible.
M: Good for you. I wish more people had the same attitude as you.

In the past two months, there have been several shark attacks at Atlantic Beach and Outer
Banks Beach in North Carolina. For this reason, we have decided to close down both beaches until
further notice. These sharks are great white sharks and extremely dangerous. We are asking-but not
requiring-owners of small boats and fishermen to avoid activities in these areas. This month, a
study from the Florida Museum of Natural History showed that the rise in shark attacks was
caused by many factors, some of which can be avoided. Sharks are said to follow the warm ocean
currents from the Gulf of Mexico.Graham Schwartz a shark expert from the University of
California, warns swimmers to limit splashing in the water, and to avoid wearing shiny material
that could look like the skin of a fish. Although shark attacks are still extremely rare, and are
mostly a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, we take this problem very seriously
at the Department of Parks and Recreation. We thank you for your cooperation, and we hope to
reopen our beaches to the public soon!
