Hello, everyone! I am going to talk about a great musician, Nie Er.
Nie Er, formerly known as Nie Shouxin, was born in Yunnan Province in 1912. He was admitted into Yunnan Provincial First Normal School, where he majored in English. After graduation, however, he was committed to music. He wrote over 30 songs all his life, among which March of the Volunteers was chosen as the national anthem of the PRC. In addition, his another song — Song of Selling Newspapers — is also very popular.
He had a talent for music at his early age. His ears were extremely sensitive to musical note, and because of that, he changed his name into Nie Er. He is the first composer to evoke the new China in the image of the Chinese masses and children. What's more, his music perfectly blends melodic and inspirational messages together. In all, his music is vehement and favored by many people.

I'll tell you about my father's side of the family. My father, Joseph Brown, is one of four brothers. The eldest is my Uncle Keith, and he married Elsie down in England, and they had two daughters, Ruth and Helen, so those are two of my cousins. My name is Sara. When I was little, I played the drums. I also had a guitar. In fourth grade, I started playing the trombone (长号). I practiced about four hours a week. All of this might not seem like a big deal for a lot of kids, but there's something about me that makes me a bit different from others. I was born without hands. Since I was about one year old, I've worn prosthetics (假手).
This year, I got an invitation to join the high school marching band (行进管乐队). I told my mom I wanted to do it. But I had an instructor who thought I would not be able to march in the band — not because it was a high school band and I'm only in seventh grade, but probably because my body is different. All I wanted was to show that I could do it, so I joined the band. And it paid off!
Music gives me energy. That happens sometimes. One time I was so down, I didn't even want to get out of bed. Then I hit my music player by accident. A song came on, and I got up and started dancing. It helped me say to myself, “OK, I can get through today.”
Around my musician friends, we all share the same problems, like working out how many beats there are to a measure. I have a hard time counting the beats, but so do a lot of the other kids. It's a normal problem that we musicians share. When I'm with the band, I don't feel as different as I do in other situations. It's just another way that music makes me want to go on, and not to just sit down by myself and not care about life.

一、过去分词作表语
(一)过去分词作表语的用法
[先感知]

[会发现] 系动词后接形容词化的过去分词,“人”作主语,用动词 ed形式的过去分词。
[明规则]
过去分词除了放在be动词后,也可放在连系动词get, feel, remain, seem, look, become等之后作表语,表示主语所处的状态。

过去分词作表语时,强调主语所处的状态,而动词的被动语态表示主语是动作的承受者,强调动作。

(三)感觉类及物动词的现在分词与过去分词作表语的区别
[先感知]
①We were surprised at what he said at the meeting.

1.句①中的surprised,句②中的discouraging都是感觉类及物动词的过去分词或现在分词。
2.句①过去分词surprised作表语,描述的是我们(we)的心理状态。
3.句②现在分词discouraging描述的是他说的话(his words)给人们带来的感受。

英语中有很多与感觉有关的及物动词,其现在分词表示主动意义,即“令人有某种感觉的”,多用来修饰物;其过去分词含有被动意义,即“人被引起某种感觉的”,多用来修饰人、人的声音或表情等。

(一)过去分词(短语)作状语的类型

过去分词(短语)作状语,可以表示时间、让步、条件、原因、伴随、方式和结果,相当于一个状语从句。其逻辑主语为主句的主语,且与主句主语之间构成逻辑上的被动关系。
[名师点津] 值得注意的是,有些过去分词(短语)因来源于系表结构,作状语时不强调被动而重在描述主语的状态。这样的过去分词(短语)常见的有:lost; seated; hidden; lost/absorbed in; dressed in; tired of。

[助记]分词作状语记忆口诀
分词作状语,主语是问题。
前后两动作,共用一主语。
主语找出后,再来判关系。
主动用-ing,被动用-ed。
[名师点津] 无论是现在分词还是过去分词,其逻辑主语必须和句子的主语一致。如果不一致,则必须用状语从句、独立主格结构等其他表达形式。

(二)不完全爆破的发音技巧
在朗读句子或某些单词时,当爆破音/p/, /b/, /t/, /d/, /k/, /g/在与爆破音或其他一些辅音连用时,第一个爆破音只按发音部位形成阻碍,但不发生爆破,稍停即发出后一个爆破音,这种现象称为“不完全爆破”。
不完全爆破可发生在单词内部,如bla(ck)board, foo(t)ball, ke(p)t等。括号中的辅音字母对应的辅音音素/k/, /t/, /p/稍作停顿,没发出音来。
不完全爆破在两个相邻单词之间出现的情况非常多。
①爆破音中的任何两个爆破音相邻时,前一爆破音失去爆破。如a bi(g) car等。
②爆破音中的任何一个后接摩擦音/f/, /s/, /z/, /v/时,前面的爆破音失去爆破。如I didn'(t) say so。

The virtual choir was the idea of award winning composer and conductor Eric Whitacre. Born in the USA on 2 January 1970, Whitacre began studying music at the University of Nevada in 1988. He fell in love with Mozart's classical music when he sang for the university choir. Moved by this music, he said, “It was like seeing color for the first time.” He graduated from university in 1995, and then received a master's degree in musical composition from the Juilliard School in New York in 1997. Over the next 10 years, Whitacre's original compositions began to become quite popular among choirs and singers. This led to the creation of the virtual choir.
In 2009, Whitacre received a video of a girl who was singing one of his works. Inspired, he asked his fans to make videos, which he then joined together into one performance. His first virtual choir, “Lux Aurumque”, had 185 singers from 12 different countries. It has received millions of views on the Internet. Since then, the virtual choir has become a worldwide phenomenon. Whitacre's next effort was the Virtual Youth Choir for UNICEF, which was first seen on stage on 23 July 2014 in the UK. Altogether, 2,292 young people from 80 countries joined in to sing Whitacre's song “What If”.
