Lesson 34 Modern Olympics
【教学目标】
1.Master the new words and phrases, the meaning of text.
2.The Grammar: Comparative and Superlative—Adjectives and Adverbs
3.By learning this text, let the Ss learn from the spirit of the Olympics.
【教学重点】
Master the new words and phrases, the meaning of text.
【教学难点】
Master more knowledge about the world and learn from the spirit of the Olympics.
【教学过程】
Ⅰ.Lead in. (引入)
1.Greet the students in English and make sure they can response correctly.
2. Enjoy the song “You and Me”, and introduce the Beijing Olympic Games. It is a modern Olympics. Today we will talk more about the modern Olympics.
设计意图:通过歌曲欣赏,创造真实的语言环境,直接感受北京奥运会,同时引入话题。
Ⅱ.New lesson. (新课)
1.Read the introduction by themselves, and guess the meanings the red words. Then teach the new words and phrases. Make sure the Ss can read it correctly and make sentences.
设计意图:通过猜词活动,一方面熟悉北京奥运会的概况,另一方面在真实语境中学习领会新单词。
2.Next listen to the tape and choose the main idea.
A. Every Olympics has same points and different points.
B. The Beijing Olympic games.
设计意图:熟悉课文内容的同时有目的地进行听力训练。
3. Scan the article carefully, try to find out the answers. And tell Ss what the scanning is.
a. What does the Olympic symbol mean
b. What's the Olympic motto
c. What does the torch mean
d. What has always been the same
设计意图:学习阅读技巧扫读,带着技巧进一步熟悉文章,提高阅读效率。
4. Group work
Discuss and find more things that are the same or different in the modern Olympics and talk about them.

Then, let the Ss retell the article according to the mind-map.
设计意图:发挥小组优势及学生的主体地位,让更多的学生参与进来,提高学习积极性。用思维导图简化课文内容,让学生用自己的话来复述课文,也是对学生本节课学习情况的一种检测。
5. Play games ( Important notes).
a. First, divide the Ss into red and blue groups.
b. Second, let the Ss choose a mascot. the mascot will give the Ss a question. If you answer the question correctly in one minute, your group will get some points.
设计意图:将单纯的知识点贯穿在游戏中,消除知识点讲解的枯燥性,在游戏中讲解,一方面掌握了短语,另一方面在习题中练习掌握了短语的用法。同时引进小组竞争机制,提高学生学习兴趣和学习效率。
Ⅲ.Summary. (小结)
1.Sum up the text what we learned, the new words, phrases, and sentences.
2.Sum up the spirit of the Olympics. We should learn from the spirit of the Olympics to strive for a stronger and better self.
设计意图:一是对文章大意的小结,二是对奥运精神的小结与学习。教育孩子们在学习生活中要有拼搏精神,勇于超越自我。

1.Finish the exercise book and the practice.
2.Copy the new words and phrases twice.
