Daniel is doing a school science project for the upcoming World Meteorological Day. Read the leaflet about climate and finish the following tasks.
1. What is weather What is climate
2. What factors affect climate
3. What is the main cause of climate change
Read the leaflet about climate and answer the following questions.
A
1. How do you understand “climate is what you can expect but weather is what you actually get
2. What is unusual about climate change in recent years
3. What kind of human activity impacts on the world's climate
Read the leaflet again and answer the following questions.
P 8
Climate is the expected typical pattern of weather that generally does not change, while weather changes on a daily basis and may sometimes be unexpected.
Possible answer: Burning fossil fuels releases greenhouse gases, while cutting down trees reduces the planet’ s ability to absorb carbon dioxide. Livestock farming(畜牧业) also produces a dangerous greenhouse gas called methane (沼气).
B Daniel is listening to a talk on how climate affects people’s lives. Listen and finish the exercises below.

Possible answer:
Climate and man: mutual impact
Good morning, everyone. I will talk about climate and human interactions. Unlike weather, which changes on a daily basis, climate is the long-term pattern of weather in a specific region. It is influenced by many factors including winds, ocean currents, height above sea level and distance from the equator.
We feel the impact of climate in many aspects of our lives, such as clothing styles, crops, means of transport, housing construction and even festival celebrations. For example, in some Arctic regions, people build houses from snow and ice to block out the freezing wind and cold, and to trap the heat inside. And in the sandy deserts of North Africa, people use camels for transport as they are perfectly adapted to the hot and dry climate.
Throughout history, climate has changed, which is quite normal. What is worrying, however, is the growing human impact on climate. In recent years, temperatures have been rising at their quickest rate ever and sea levels are estimated to have risen by over 20 centimetres since 1880. You may wonder how this has come about. Unfortunately, human activity appears to be the main cause, such as burning fossil fuels.
Clearly, we must reduce the negative effects of human activity on climate. A call to action is needed and all levels of society must respond. Individuals can form “greener” habits like cycling and using public transport. Businesses can practise more effective recycling methods. Countries should cooperate to ensure green energy becomes available to all. We should address the threat facing our planet before it is too late!
Finish the exercises in Learning English.
