Analysis of Students
Students are in the first semester of Senior High school. After three years of junior high learning, they have mastered around 2,500 words, and know some basic knowledge about word formation. However, their vocabulary is no sufficient, and their knowledge in word formation is very preliminary. They know the differences in American English and British English, but most of them cannot give a full picture of the differences and may not know the reasons behind such phenomenon.

Step 1Lead-in Arouse students’ interest in vocabulary T asks students to briefly review the passage learned in last class and ask students’ opinion on vocabulary learning.T guides Ss to realize that we have rules to follow when learning English. We can understand more English words by word formation. Invite students to review the past knowledge and realize 感知注意记忆检索 In this part, Ss can quickly review the key points in last class and relate them to this class. Ss can gain confidence in vocabulary learning.
Step 2Finding and Analyzing Detailed analysis of the four types of word formation T asks Ss to match the words in bold to the types of word formation.T asks Ss to look for more examples of each type in the reading passage.T explained the four types of word formation with examples to help stud Students can notice the word formation learnt in the text, and explore more into word formation 描述阐释 Ss can learn the four types of word formation and complete a passage with the help of it.
Step 3Application to complete a passage with the help of word formation T gives the task in Activity 2 and offers help.Ss read the passage and understand the main ideas, and complete the passage with the help of word formation.
