Analysis of Students
Students are fresh graduates from junior high schools. They have basic English knowledge in listening, reading, speaking and writing. However, interests and skills in English vary among different students. Additionally, compared to abilities in listening, reading and speaking, students in senior high schools are usually weak in their writing ability. Therefore, it is necessary to help students build up their confidence in English writing and share with them some basic standards as well as useful skills in English writing.

Lead in:
Step 1 (5min) Help students understand an important slang in this class. Guess the meaning of toad-in-the-hole, an English dish.Get to know this dish with a video clip. Help students learn an unfamiliar slang. class work Students can figure out the meaning of the slang with pictures and a video for explanation.
Before Writing:
Step 2(5min) Guide students to get information in four pictures. Look at the four pictures and answer the four questions accordingly:(1) Who were the people in the story (2) Where did the story take place (3) What happened (4) What caused the misunderstanding Guide students to answer questions with information in four pictures. individual work Students are able to find out key information to the questions as a whole, but certain details may need to be further explained.
Step 3(5min) Prepare students with some expressions for the next activity. Brainstorm some relevant expressions for reference before the writing session. Prepare students with some useful expressions for them to describe what happened in the pictures. class work Students come up with some relevant expressions.
While Writing:
Step 4(10min) Let students practise writing sentences according to information in pictures Write some sentences to describe what happened in each of the four pictures. Let students practise writing a story based on information in the four pictures. individual work Students describe what happened in each of the four pictures with preparation in the previous activities.
Step 5(5min) Enable students to write a story logically by using conjunctions properly. Write a paragraph to tell the story. Enable students to realize the importance of conjunctions in writing a story. individual work Students are able to use simple conjunctions to tell a story clearly, but they sometimes forget to do so without enough practice.
Post Writing:
Step 6(4min) Introduce students basic requirements to evaluate stories. Make some basic requirements of a good story and explain how to evaluate stories. Introduce students basic requirements to write and evaluate stories. class work Students are likely to understand the basic requirements, but they need to learn these requirements by heart through practice.
Step 7(4min) Practise with students evaluating stories with basic requirements. Evaluate students’ writings. Summary:
