《东方快车谋杀案》（Murder on the Orient Express）是英国作家阿加莎·克里斯蒂创作的侦探小说，属于赫尔克里·波洛系列之一
该小说围绕发生在豪华列车“东方快车”上的一起谋杀案，讲述了大侦探波洛在杀机四伏的列车上拨开重重迷雾，最终在十二个嫌疑人中锁定真凶的故事。小说探讨了法治不健全的情况下的私刑寻仇，人情正义与法理争议之间的重重矛盾。
欧·亨利（O.Henry，1862年9月11日—1910年6月5日），又译奥·亨利，原名威廉·西德尼·波特（William Sydney Porter），美国短篇小说家、美国现代短篇小说创始人，其主要作品有《麦琪的礼物》、《警察与赞美诗》、《最后一片叶子》、《二十年后》等。
1862年9月11日，欧·亨利生于美国北卡罗莱纳州格林斯伯勒，曾当过银行职员、药剂师等。1896年2月，欧·亨利因受到盗用公款的指控入狱，后逃亡洪都拉斯。1898年再次入狱，期间开始发表作品。1902年，欧·亨利移居纽约，成为职业作家。1910年6月5日，欧·亨利因肝硬化在美国纽约去世。欧·亨利与契诃夫和莫泊桑并列世界三大短篇小说巨匠，曾被评论界誉为曼哈顿桂冠散文作家和美国现代短篇小说之父，他的作品有“美国生活的百科全书”之誉。

Read the complete short story After Twenty Years. By reading other short stories by O. Henry, such as The Gift of the Magi and The Last Leaf, you can get a deeper understanding of his works and the surprise endings of his stories.
《麦琪的礼物》讲述的是一个圣诞节里发生在社会下层的小家庭中的故事。男主人公吉姆是一位薪金仅够维持生活的小职员，女主人公德拉是一位贤惠善良的主妇。他们的生活贫穷，但吉姆和德拉各自拥有一样极珍贵的宝物。吉姆有祖传的一块金表，德拉有一头美丽的瀑布般的秀发。为了能在圣诞节送给对方一件礼物，吉姆卖掉了他的金表为德拉买了一套“纯玳瑁做的，边上镶着珠宝”的梳子；德拉卖掉了自己的长发为吉姆买了一条白金表链。他们都为对方舍弃了自己最宝贵的东西，而换来的礼物却因此变得毫无作用了。
Read the passage and find out why the man is standing outside the shop.

Task 1. Think of a possible ending to “After Twenty Years” and find evidence to support to your ideas. Use the following questions to help you.
(1)Did Jimmy come to meet his friend
(2)What has Jimmy experienced over the past twenty years
(3)What might happen between the policeman and the man
Task 2. Read the not in the original ending and find out what actually happened
