课时内容:
本课时节选了美国作家欧·亨利的短篇小说《二十年之后》。首先,要了解欧·亨利小说的特点,即:“欧·亨利式结尾”,通常指短篇小说大师们常常在文章情节结尾时突然让人物的心理情境发生出人意料的变化,或使主人公命运陡然逆转,出现意想不到的结果,既在意料之外,又在情理之中。给人以出乎意料的感觉,又不得不承认其合情合理。一般可以更好地刻画人物形象,丰富故事的内容。这种结尾艺术,在欧·亨利的作品中有充分的体现。故被称为“欧·亨利式结尾”。了解这些背景知识,对学生们理解节选部分很有帮助。作为朋友,首先要彼此信任,不应该隐瞒。故事中主人公在等待二十年之约的好友,路遇警察,互相攀谈起来。警察到底是什么身份?故事的结局会怎样?通过阅读这篇文章,了解欧·亨利小说的特点,思考友谊的标准和尺度。让学生在提高阅读水平的同时,也感受德育教育,更加珍惜自己的朋友,以诚待人。
课时目标:
1.掌握文中出现的重要词汇 ordinary, drag, correspond, partner, appointed, strike, plain, scene, bitterly, ashamed, unfold, location, surroundings, personality, atmosphere和短语 make one’s fortune, ought to, turn up的用法,并能熟练运用。
2.通过了解文章背景以及作者的写作风格,理解文章主要信息,预测故事的结局。培养学生的概括分析、推理判断能力。
3.通过快读、精读,进一步理解文章主旨,并获得主要信息。并能理解友谊的真谛,真正的友谊应该是坦诚的。因为朋友,我们少了几分孤独,多了些许温暖,因此,我们应该学会更好地与人相处,享受交往的快乐。

教学过程:
Step I Lead-in
Ask students some questions:
(1)Do you have read any stories written by O. Henry
(2)Do you like the stories with surprise endings when you read
(3)Read the short introduction to O. Henry and answer the questions of Activity1.
【设计意图】通过简短的问答,引发学生对作家欧·亨利以及作品的思考,让他们体会“欧·亨利式结尾”,加深对所节选文章的理解。
Step II Reading
1.Fast reading.
Ask students to read the passage and find out why the man is standing outside the shop.
2.Careful reading.
Ask students to read the passage again and think of a possible ending to the story according to the features of O. Henry’s ending. Then find evidence to support their ideas.
Find keywords in the passage and underline them.
Work in groups of two and act out the story.
Choose some groups to act out in front of the class.
