Content Analysis
Writing an animal fact file presents a paragraph about the red-crowned crane and requires students to answer several fact-based questions. Students will then be guided to summarize the key content points of the paragraph and establish an outline for the writing. After students develop a general structure of the essay, they can apply the useful expressions presented in this section to complete their writing. This class is designed to help students enhance their capabilities throughout the writing process, regarding structure construction, content generation, and language application. In this process, their logical thinking, creativity, and writing skills can be practiced and advanced. On the other hand, to further connect to the previous classes, the design of this class will incorporate reviewing afore-taught topic-related words and grammar points to consolidate students’ previous learning outcomes. Additionally, an instruction of the scoring criteria and sample writing will also be added to help students gain a better understanding of how to write a good essay and improve their writings on such a basis.

Reading & analyzing Students grasp key contents of the paragraph and summarize the writing structure(8 mins) Students use 1 min to read a paragraph about the red-crowned crane;Students answer the questions on the textbook; the teacher reveals the answers and give brief instructions;Students summarize the structure of an animal fact file;Students use 3 mins to choose an animal and develop their writing outlines.
Pre-writing Students activate and consolidate the words and grammar points, command useful expressions and complete the writing outlines.(6 mins) Students learn about the useful expressions in writing an animal fact file;Students review the topic-related words and grammar points and consolidate their usage through exercises;Students practice writing topi-related sentences.
While-writing Students complete their writing(3 mins) Students complete their writing (students are advised to pause the video and finish writing in 10 mins using the Word document preferably, while handwritten works are also acceptable);Teacher offer proper instructions and guidance throughout the process.
Post-writing: self-check & evaluation Students edit and improve their writing(3 mins) Students upload their writing onto the Grammarly website or use the Word editing function to check grammar mistakes;Students edit and improve their essays and retain the editing marks.
