Grammar
(1) 表示能力,can表示现在的能力,could表示过去的能力。
(2) can/could“可能”,表示猜测,一般用于疑问句和否定句。
(3) can可以表示理论上的可能性,意为“有时会……”。
(4) 表示请求、允许(表请求时,口语中常用could代替can使语气更委婉,回答时用can)。
(5) 表示惊异、怀疑、不相信的态度(主要用于否定句、疑问句或感叹句中)。
(6) could have done表示“本来有可能做某事而事实上未做到”。
can/could 的基本用法

can, be able to表示“能力”时的区别:
can 用于指现在, 常表示自身具有的能力
be able to 用于各种时态, 表示经过努力后所具有的能力

can but 只好;
can’t but 不得不;
can’t...too 再……也不为过,越……越好
I can but wait. 我只好等了。
I can’t but wait.我不得不等。
You can’t be too careful when crossing the street.
过马路时你再怎么小心也不过分。
Grammar
(1)表示允许、请求,might比may的语气更委婉一些。
(2)表示可能性时,might比may的可能性小,may表示的可能性比can小(主要用于陈述句、肯定或否定句,疑问句用can代替)。
(3)may/might have done表示“过去可能发生过某事”。
(4)may/might as well 最好还是……,不妨
(5)may/might well 很可能
(6)表示祝愿。

must的基本用法
(1) must表示命令或强烈的建议, 意为“必须”。
(2) 表示十分肯定的推测, 意为“一定; 准是”。
(3) 表示说话人的一种态度, 意为“偏要; 硬要; 偏偏”。
(4) must not表示禁止, 意思是“不许”“不准”“不可以”等。
(5) 回答must问句时, 肯定回答多用must; 否定回答多用needn’t或don’t have to。
(6) must have done表示“一定是做过某事”。
