本课时的话题是中外节日,包括 Starting out和Understanding ideas两部分。Starting out是导入部分,通过图片观察和视频观看,了解中外不同的节日,以及这些节日的起源、庆祝时间、庆祝原因和风俗,扩大学生的知识面,领略不同的风土人情。在此基础上,引导学生思考归纳各个节日的概述,完成相应的练习题。Understanding ideas部分主要介绍了 Letters From Father Christmas,这是英国作家托尔金写给他的孩子们的书信集。绘声绘色的语言、精美的插图、诙谐幽默的风格,每一封信都渗透着浓浓的父爱。通过这篇文章,学生进一步了解作家托尔金,以及他的作品的风格特色。

1.认知并灵活运用本课时的重点词汇 honour, vote, limitless, regular, warning及短语 regardless of, regard…as…。
2.通过速读、精读等方式,引导学生由浅入深,逐层推进,加深对文章的理解,并掌握不同的阅读技巧和方法。
3.通过阅读文章,了解《圣诞老人的来信》这本书,体会字里行间深沉的父爱。

教学过程:
Step I Starting out
1.The teacher guides the students to look at the pictures on Page 13 of the textbook and asks them to speak out the festivals.
2.Play the video prepared in advance, and ask the questions:
(1)What festivals are mentioned in the video
(2)Why do people celebrate these festivals
3.Work in groups.
Ask students to talk about other festivals and the reasons to celebrate them.
Record what they discussed in the form.

Step II Reading
1. Pre-reading
Look at the picture on Page 14 and learn about the writer Tolkien and his works.
Look at the title of the passage and talk about your understanding of it.

4.Post-reading
Finish Activity 3 & 4 on Page 16.
(1)Activity 3要求选出对文章标题的最佳理解,结合文章内容,理解标题的深层含义,要求学生在比较辨析的基础上做出最佳选择。
(2)Activity 4以提取文章主线的形式,将书名、作者写作背景知识以及信件的节选内容提取出来,有助于学生提取关键信息、归纳整理原文,并锻炼学生原文定位、确定答案角度的能力。
Step III Sum up
1.总结本节课的重点词汇、短语和句型,采用表格、思维导图等形式更清晰地了解它们的用法,形成知识脉络。
2.利用关键词提示的方式,让学生用简短的英语概括文章主要内容。
3.J.R.R.Tolkien每年都以圣诞老人的名义给孩子们写信,口吻轻松俏皮,娓娓道来,给孩子们带来快乐的童年,体现了 Tolkien深沉的父爱。因此,通过学习本文,让学生领略父亲对孩子的爱,深深感受家庭的温暖,更热爱自己的家人。
