整体设计思路 本单元主题是“人与社会”， 学生以主题意义探究为目的，以语篇为载体，在理解和表达的语言实践活动中，融合知识学习和技能发展，通过感知、预测、获取、分析、概括、迁移等思维活动，构建结构化知识，发展思维品质，形成文化理解，最终促成学生语言能力、文化意识、思维品质和学习能力的综合提升，促进英语学科核心素养的形成和发展。 整堂课问题分层次设计，由浅入深，在明确文章体裁和结构之后，充分挖掘教材内容，逐步引导学生在理解课文表面意义的基础之上进行深入思考，了解中外节日的意义和内涵以及增进对父母的感恩。同时也设计小组讨论，同伴分享等环节给予学生充分的时间对教材知识进行整合、重组、迁移和表达，体现了新课程改革强调的充分发挥学生主体地位。

Step 1 Warming up （5 mins） Play a Christmas vocabulary word guessing game. Watch the pictures and guess words related to Christmas. 以猜词游戏的形式介绍有关圣诞节的表达，调动学生积极性。
Step 2 Pre-reading Prediction （5 mins） Show a picture of the textbook on page 15. Let students find some detail information to predict the passage. Pay attention to the illustration and other detail information to have a prediction. 让学生自主挖掘细节信息并预测文章内容，培养学生关注细节和推测判断能力。
Step 2 While-reading （28 mins） Fast-reading Match the main idea of each paragraph. Read the passage quickly to get the main idea of each paragraph. 训练学生的阅读技能，并通过阅读使学生意识到节日的真正意义以及Tolkien对孩子的爱。
Detail-reading Read the passage more carefully and complete the chart on the learning sheet. Search for the detail information. Discuss in groups to complete the chart.
Further-reading Find evidence that shows Tolkien’s care and love for his children. Work together to explore the evidence.
Enjoy a short video about the book Watch the video to further feel Tolkien’s care and love.
Step 3 Think and share （8 mins） Ask students to share something unforgettable their parents did for them. Discuss in groups and write down the unforgettable things. 让学生分享自身经历，使学生们意识到礼物背后体现的是来自家庭的关爱，要学会感恩和关心家人。
Step 4 Conclusion （1 min） Make a conclusion. Read the sentence about the true spirit of Christmas. 引用的句子体现了本节课的单元主题，通过礼物背后的爱引导学生进一步体会节日意义。
Step 5 Homework （1 min） Write a letter to your parents to show your gratitude. (around 100 words) Try your best to show your love for your parents as much as possible in your daily life.
