Agony Aunt
An agony aunt is a British advice columnist giving advice to people who send in personal problems to the advice column of a newspaper or a magazine.
The image presented was originally of an older woman offering comforting advice and maternal wisdom. Nowadays, the advisor is not necessarily female. It may turn out to be a male (Agony Uncle) or even a team.
In American English, “advice columnist”is used.
