But in China the dishes are 2________ on the table and everyone shares. If you are being treated by a Chinese host, there must be 3________ food prepared for you. Chinese are very 4________ of their culture and will try their best to show their hospitality (好客).
Sometimes the Chinese host uses their 5________ to put food in your bowl or plate. This is a sign of politeness. The proper thing to do is to eat whatever it is and say how 6________ it is. If you feel uncomfortable with this, you can just say “Thanks” and leave the food there. Don't 7________ your chopsticks upright into the rice bowl. Instead, lay(放置) them on your dish. C层作业:拓展训练
五、阅读理解:
Last year, I went to China for my holiday. One day, I noticed something strange at the dinner table. I was in a restaurant with my friends then, and beside us on another table, a group of four men were shouting at each other and waving their money around. In the end, I learnt that they were actually “fighting” to pay the bill!
This scene made me think of what it would look like in Britain. It would be almost unheard of (前所未闻的).British food culture usually means that you pay for whatever you ordered. In a British restaurant, you’ll just pay for yourself. It’s called “splitting (分担)the bill”or“going Dutch”.
I guess there is one reason that could explain some of the differences between East and West. How you pay the bill depends on how you order, as well as how you eat. Usually in Chinese restaurants, the group decides on each dish, so the group eats all of the dishes. Can you imagine trying to work out how much each person needs to pay if you’re all sharing
The opposite is true for western-style food. Each person chooses the food that he or she wants. Sharing isn’t commonly practised. So it’s simple to pay for what you ordered.
I personally enjoy both practices. It’s nice to treat your friends to dinner sometimes. And it’s nice to be treated. And on days when I miss western food, I know there will be no “fighting” over who should pay!
1. The four men were shouting at each other in the first paragraph because ___________.
A. they wanted to order different food B. each of them wanted to pay the bill
C. they didn’t agree with each other D. some of them didn’t want to pay the bill
2. The third paragraph mainly tells us ___________.
A. some differences of eating habits between East and West
B. some similarities of eating habits between East and West
C. “going Dutch” is popular in British restaurants
D. the reason why there are different paying habits between East and West
3. What’s the writer’s attitude towards paying the bill
A. He prefers “going Dutch”. B. He prefers to treat his friends.
C. He prefers both practices. D. He prefers neither practices.
4. What’s the best title of the passage
A. Different paying habits between East and West
B. Why do Chinese like to pay the bill
C. How to pay the bill
D. Why are the Chinese restaurants very noisy

Dear Mr and Mrs Green,
How are you Thank you for looking after me when I studied in America.
I experienced a big culture shock in America at first. But you were very kind to me and helped me a lot. I later got used to the life there. And I learnt many things in America, such as the language and the culture. I also made many friends there.
After I returned to China, I shared the things I've learnt with my classmates and friends. I really miss all of you. I hope that we can keep in touch with each other all the time. And I also hope that you will come to China one day.
