1. 初读全文
(1)一般应先通读整篇短文, 初步了解短文整体框架、大意及作者意向, 并在抓住主要信息及各段中心内容的同时, 标出重要内容或有疑问的地方。

The Japanese school system is different from other countries in the world. Most schools in Japan have a three term system with new school years starting every April. There are six grades in the elementary school(小学). Japan has one of the longest school days in the world. Even after the school ends, children still have other homework to keep them busy.
School holidays are six weeks long during the summer break and about two weeks long in winter break.
Every class has its own classroom. During elementary education, in most cases, one teacher teaches all of the subjects in each class. The number of the students in one class is usually under 40.
Here are some interesting facts about Japanese schools: Nearly all junior high schools require their students to wear school uniforms. Most students in Japan really feel happy in school. Students spend 205 minutes on language classes and 165 minutes on science classes every week(in other countries, 215 and 200 minutes), but they spend more time on math classes—235 minutes every week(in other countries, 218 minutes).

Tencent limits the daily time for teenagers to play its popular game King of Glory(王者荣耀) after school in Shanghai and other areas, because parents think their kids spend too much time playing it.
Children younger than 12 are only allowed to play the game for no more than one hour a day. Teenagers older than 12 are able to play no more than two hours a day. And after 10 p.m., they can' t log into it. The game system will remind players the time they have been playing and young players will be forced to log out when the time is up. Tencent think these are the
strictest ways in China to stop addiction (上瘾) and the company expects parents don' t need to worry about their kids as before.
Parents can receive messages when children log in and spend money on the game after they connect children' s game accounts(账号)with their mobile phone numbers. Now, parents can connect phones or computers that their children use to play games, so that they can always keep an eye on the children even if they have several game accounts. Last autumn, Wu Tongyu, a middle school student, did a study with two classmates. They wanted to know what problems teenagers face with short-form video apps. After the study, they wrote a proposal (提案) to the China Youth Model Chinese People' s Political Consultative Conference (全国青少年模拟政协活动). It became one of the top 32 proposals in the middle school category (组别).
They made a questionnaire (调查问卷) and handed it out to 100 students in their school. They found that over 90 percent of the students use short-form video apps in their spare time. On holidays, some spend more than two hours a day on them. Most of them know it' s a waste of time and not good for their eyes, but it seemed they lost control of themselves.
They also interviewed six students. Some talked about really upsetting videos. For example, in one video a girl said her mother died and she wanted 10,000 likes for that. Some students even tried to learn something that' s actually dangerous from videos, like making popcorn on an alcohol lamp (酒精灯).
The team suggested that video apps should use facial recognition technology (人脸识别技术) to tell users' age. Then the apps can avoid showing teenagers the videos that are not good for them. The team also called for parents to spend more time with their children on outdoor activities and reading. Schools should also
organize more activities for students to develop their skills and help them make friends. These things can help keep teenagers off their phones.
