Renaissance(文艺复兴) art is instantly recognizable to almost everyone around the world. When we hear the word “art”, it’s very likely that we’ll imagine a work from the Renaissance period. This golden age of art, which centred in Italy between the 14th and 16th centuries, was a time when some of the world’s most important artworks were created.
Take the works of the Italian artist and inventor Leonardo da Vinci for example. His painting, Mona Lisa, is arguably the most visited and best-known artwork on the earth. There aren’t many people who don’t recognize this painting.
But while many artists’ talents lie in the beauty they bring to the world, da Vinci shared much more than that. The artist was also fascinated by the study of the structure of the human body, and he used his skills to create realistic medical drawings. These drawings were so detailed that doctors used them to help them understand the human body better.
Meanwhile, da Vinci showed talents in countless other areas. His mind was such greatness that he created sketches of his ideas for many inventions, from bridges and machinery to even a helicopter and a robot. “He maybe best-known as an artist but he was also an engineer, thinker and inventor,” The Guardian’s Nicola Davis commented.
