本课时的话题是简介四部有关自然灾害的影片和极热天气,包括 Starting out和 Understanding ideas两部分。
Starting out是导入部分,通过观看视频和影片海报,了解电影内容提要以及震撼的场景。(1)《后天》:美国气候学家杰克认为,温室效应正在引发地球的大灾难,北极冰川的融化,会让地球回到冰河世纪那样的劫难,他的提醒并没有引起美国当局的重视,一切都已经太晚:飓风、冰雹、洪水、冰山融化、极度严寒,一系列的地球巨变引发了一场不可挽救的灾难。美国政府组织北纬30度的民众转移到赤道周围,场面一片混乱,更糟糕的是,杰克的儿子,正困在曼哈顿的图书馆里,靠烧书生火来维持体温,大家怎样才能逃过这场灭顶的灾祸?冰天雪地的地球何时才能回暖?(2)《不惧风暴》:故事背景设定在一个名为西弗敦的小镇,在同一天中,史无前例的多个龙卷风同时席卷这个小镇,在这些难以预测且极度致命的龙卷风群袭击下,整个小镇面临灭顶之灾,但专门研究龙卷风的追风人预测,更糟糕的情况还尚未真正到来。大多数居民都在紧迫寻找避难所,而这些追风者们却“逆向而行”赶到龙卷漩涡前,测试需要走多远才能拍到这千载难逢的极端时刻。(3)《唐山大地震》:描述了1976年发生在中国唐山的7.8级大地震,一位母亲只能选择救姐弟之一,母亲最终选择了救弟弟,但姐姐却奇迹生还,后被解放军收养。32年后家人意外重逢,心中的裂痕等待他们去修补。悲伤的情节再一次勾起了当代人们对那一段惨痛灾难的回忆。(4)《海神号》:新年的钟声即将响起,欢快喜庆的气氛弥漫在正孤独航行于北大西洋上的海神号中。这是一艘拥有80个房间、13层楼高、载客量超过2000人的超豪华邮轮。在船长麦克·布莱福德的组织下,达官显贵、社会名流纷纷云集在豪华明亮的大厅,伴着美食佳酒、轻歌曼舞,一同庆祝新年的到来。与此同时,大西洋底的地壳发生剧烈震动,继而掀起足以摧毁万物的滔天巨浪。在自然面前,再坚固的船只也需俯首称臣。海神号被巨浪掀翻,无数人丢掉性命。面对死神的威胁,侥幸逃过第一波劫难的人们开始想尽办法逃生。在茫茫无所依靠的大海中央,他们的命运终将如何?
Understanding ideas部分是一篇记叙文。作者以第人称的叙事方式,讲述了自己从坐地铁到工作场地,那种无法忍受的炎热,无处躲藏,以此反映出极热天气对我们的影响。
课时目标:
1.认知并灵活运用本课时的重点单词 plus,erupt,immediately,occur,announcement,react to,share…with,pick up,compared to,a bit,look through,due to,after all,complain about等。
2.通过速读、精读等方式,引导学生由浅入深,逐层推进,加深对文章的理解,并掌握不同的阅读技巧和方法。
3.通过阅读文章,了解自然灾害、极端天气的影响,引导学生正确认识极端天气,并思考自己怎样从日常生活中的小事做起,过一种绿色环保、低碳节能的生活。

2.预习 Starting out和 Understanding ideas两部分的内容,通过查字典等方式提前解决词汇问题。

1.Play the video prepared in advance,and ask the questions.

(3)How did people there react to the disaster?
(4)What was the result?
2. Guide the students to look at the pictures on Page 61 of the textbook. Then ask them to speak out the contents of the films and answer the questions.
(1)What are the films about?
(2)What do you think the main characters do in the face of these disasters
(3)What other stories do you know about natural disasters?Share an example with the class.
3.Work in groups and fill in the form.

【设计意图】该部分用简答题的形式将课文主要内容展示出来,为学生理清了文章脉络。同时,学生也掌握了文章的主要内容,锻炼了概括归纳能力和语言表达能力因为有原文提示,难度不大,因此将该题设置在了速读部分。

【设计意图】通过设置该活动,进一步归纳、概括文章,理清文章脉络,有助于学生更好地加深对文章的理解。同时,在读懂语篇的基础上,将英语语法、句法、词汇知识融合在一起,能更科学地反应学生的口头表达能力和综合运用英语的能力。
