一、阅读回答问题
China’s “four great new inventions” in modern times have made the daily life of the public more and more convenient. They are the high-speed railway (HSR), shopping online, shared bikes and mobile phone payment.
Living in Hong Kong, I knew them from the papers, the TV and the Internet. But last month I had the chance to experience all of them.
As usual, the golden week stopped the traffic. It was hard to get a railway ticket anywhere in the train stations. But I bought a train ticket to Beijing on the Internet and paid for it through Zhifubao. It was even cheaper than it was bought in the station. Then we got on the high-speed train. I was shocked at its speed and quietness. There was no noise which the train made while running. It was reported that China has the longest high-speed railway in the world, which is regarded as a “name card” for China.
China’s HSR has also gone abroad. In 2014, China finished building its first foreign high-speed rail in Turkey. In June 2015, China and Russia agreed to build the 770 km of high-speed railway connecting Moscow and Kazan. In October 2015, China helped Indonesia to build a high-speed rail between Jakarta and Bandung.
Did I feel bored during the trip on the train Not at all. I bought many cheap and good things in Taobao and Tmall on the Internet through my mobile phone. It’s amazing that there are oceans of products in Taobao and Tmall.
Soon we arrived in Beijing. We got on a bus near the train station. After getting off the bus, my friend told me that the bus stop is far from his home. I thought we would have to spend much money going to his home on a taxi, but it seemed that he wasn’t worried about that. He showed me some bikes on the side of the street. They are called shared bikes. We only need to use our mobile phones to scan the Quick-Response code (二维码) on shared bikes, and then we could ride the bikes anywhere we wanted to go. It was so cool!

Eyes Always on Us
Video cameras are everywhere: schools, theatres and stores. But in recent years, they have entered our homes. Many parents set up cameras at home to watch their children’s online classes and homework. Are cameras really helpful What do students think about it
Li MingEarlier last year, I liked to lie in bed and watch videos instead of studying. This affected my studies and made my grades worse. So my parents set up a camera to keep an eye on me. It worked. With the camera watching, I had to do my homework first and make plans for studying at home. When I was alone at home, the camera made me feel safe because I knew that my parents were watching on the other side. My grades improved after a year. Zhang HuaWhen I was in Grade 8, my parent set up a camera in my room. I really didn’ t like it because I felt like there were always eyes watching me. I felt so uncomfortable that I couldn’ t sleep well at night. Knowing there was a camera around when my friends came to my home, they would speak quietly and carefully; We couldn’ t have pillow fights. I was sad. So I asked my parents to take the camera away. They agreed it as long as I promised to behave well. I feel happy and free now.

Do you know your neighbors Do you often talk with them Good neighbors are just like our friends and relatives. They are the important people in our lives. They make our lives more pleasant and give us a sense of who we are, both as an individual and as a member of the community. Here’s how to develop your relationships with these very important people in your life.
Start a conversation. Often neighbors don’t even know each other’s names. However, most neighbors enjoy making small talk with each other in their community. You can ask how their kids are or what they think of the prices at the supermarket. But the best way to break the ice is to smile, wave and say hello to your neighbors.
Be friendly to the newcomers. Your new neighbors may be feeling lonely, especially if they’re far from home, and might expect a friendly face. If they have kids, give them your phone number, and point to your house as you say good-bye.
Develop better relationships. Return anything that you borrow from a neighbor, such as tools, in good repair and as soon as you’ve finished with them. Make sure that your car is not blocking their doorway. Such small actions will help you build up a good relationship with your neighbors.
Make time for your friendship. If you value a friendship with your neighbors, spend time with them. Why not invite them to a barbecue or weekend party You can write a card to invite them to your party. Then, you can make a call to them ahead. In this way, you will know what your neighbors like. You can plan for proper food and music.
Care about the details. In a good relationship, it’s really the little things that count. When your neighbors carry a lot of things, you can give them a hand. Help to bring in the mail for the elderly neighbor when it rains. If you care about them, too. The respect for your neighbors feelings can develop your relationship with them.

Is it possible to fit millions of years of the world's history into one building and learn about it in just one day The British Museum says yes. Its famous exhibition(展览), “A History of the World in 100 Objects”, comes to China for the very first time. The collection is on show in the National Museum in Beijing from March 2 to May 31.
This exhibition gets its idea from the book A History of the World in 100 Objects by Neil MacGregor, the former director of the British Museum. Neil presents the 2 million years of human history with 100 objects in the collection of the British Museum, covering all the years from the time when men first stood up till the 21st century. These 100 sets of objects, various in material and size, have been carefully chosen for their ability to tell powerful and surprising stories about the societies which created them. Through these objects, visitors can know about the people who made and used them—from how they lived to what they believed. There are also some modern inventions such as a solar-powered lamp to show the development of modern science and technology.
The exhibition tries to use the objects to show the communication between different civilizations(文明) in human history on this planet. So, when you enjoy the exhibition, remember that globalization(全球化)does not belong to modern times only. Every human civilization in history is the result of communication with other civilizations, and communication between civilizations has always been a main topic of human society since ancient times. It's also a good idea to take a map of the world and a timeline of the world history with you. They can help you understand how different civilizations communicated with one another.
It is a great exhibition that covers the whole world and all the human history. It will help Chinese visitors have a better understanding of the world and the human history and it will also be highly meaningful for people to think more about the present and future of China under globalization. Make time for the exhibition and travel back in time to see how humans have shaped, and been shaped by.

Can you imagine a world without chocolate According to chocolate makers it could happen if we don’t act soon.
There are two main causes of the chocolate shortage (短缺)—chocolate’s growing popularity and less production of cocoa, the plant from which chocolate is made. With more and more people in India and China loving chocolate these years, not much can be done about the first cause.
Therefore, the only thing we can do is to increase cocoa production. However, new plant diseases and little rain have reduced cocoa production by 40 percent in the past 10 years. What’s worse, many cocoa farmers in Africa and other cocoa-producing countries are changing to other crops such as corn or rubber. This way, the farmers can make more money.
“To prevent more farmers from changing, we are trying to create new cocoa plants that can grow faster and stronger.”said the researchers at the International Cocoa Control Centre. But first they must make sure the new plants are safe to grow. This takes a long time.
First, each new plant is stored at the Control Centre for six months to make sure it is healthy. It is then planted in the Centre’s fields, studied and tested for another two years. Only after scientists are certain that they’re disease—free will the plants be sent to farmers in West Africa or wherever else they are needed.
To create new stronger types of cocoa, scientists at the Centre are combining the best parts from different cocoa plants. Though the world is facing a serious chocolate shortage, there is now hope!

Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the creators of Google, want to change your world. Their goal is to make a search engine that always gives you the right information. “It’s a huge goal,” Page says, “and it’s a long way off.” But Page and Brin are ready for it.
“Imagine if you had a librarian who had the knowledge of Google but could also answer immediately with that knowledge,” says Page. “That would really change the world.”
Both Page and Brin come from math and computer science backgrounds. Page’s father and mother were both computer scientists. So Page’s love for computers started early. He remembers surprising his teachers when he handed in a typed homework paper in primary school.
Brin’s father was a math teacher and Brin’s parents moved to the U. S. from Russia in 1979. Brin says they moved to the U. S. to have more chances. Judging from their son’s success, their move certainly was a great decision!
Page and Brin were students at Stanford University when they first had the idea of creating their now-famous Google search engine. They began the project in Page’s dorm room (宿舍). Brin says he knew Google would be great when he found that he used it all the time. After collecting money from friends and family, they put Google on the market in 1998. At first, they did 10, 000 searches daily. Today they do over 200 million searches—more than 50 percent of all Internet searches.
Both men have surprisingly simple lifestyles. They don’t live in large houses or own expensive cars. Page and Brin also work very hard. They say that setting up a restaurant at their company was one of their best ideas. Why Because they work such long hours that they end up eating most of their meals there! Page and Brin strongly believe that search engines can greatly improve people’s lives.

Oral (口腔的) health is widely considered as one of the most important aspects of our overall health. However, the fear of the dentist is very common.
A fear of the dentist is usually caused by negative past experiences. Perhaps you experienced pain, discomfort, or a general lack of empathy (共鸣) at a dentist office, and this has made you unwilling to see another dentist in the future. Some people are also afraid of the noises of the tools dentists use for teeth cleaning and exams, so thinking about these could bring about some fears, too. You may have been afraid of the dentist as a child, and these feelings stuck with you as you grew up. About 2.7 percent of men and 4.6 percent of women have dentophobia (牙医恐惧症).
Aside from fears tied to past experiences, it’s also possible to experience fear of a dentist because of worries you might have about your oral health. Perhaps you have a toothache or bleeding gums, or maybe you just haven’t been to the dentist in several months or years and are afraid of receiving bad news.
Fears over seeing the dentist are best solved by going to the dentist instead of avoiding it.
Whether you’re ready to face your fear completely or you’re getting ready to see the dentist gradually, the following tips can help you stay calm during your appointment:
●See the dentist at a less busy time of day, such as the morning hours. There will be fewer people, but also fewer tools making noises that could cause your anxiety. Also, the later you see your dentist, the longer your anxiety will last.
●Bring noise-canceling headphones or ear buds with music to help you relax.
●Ask a friend or a loved one to be with you during your appointment.
●Practice deep breathing to calm your nerves.

Today, doctors know a lot about how to stop germs (细菌) from spreading. They advise people to cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze. Washing hands also helps. Storing food correctly can help prevent illness as well.
However, people didn’t use to know a lot about germs. For many years, even doctors didn’t really understand how illnesses spread. They did many things to avoid getting sick. Some doctors even tried dressing like birds.
In 1619, Charles de Lorme designed a special uniform for doctors treating plague (瘟疫) patients. The uniform had a long coat, gloves, boots and a wide-side hat. The doctors also carried long, wooden sticks so that they wouldn’t have to touch the patients. The mask made the doctors look like birds. It had a long beak with about 15 cm from the face. There were also two eyeholes covered in glass and two nose holes.
At that time, doctors believed the plague was spread by bad air. So the doctors put medicine and flowers in the beaks of their masks. They believed this would remove the bad smell from air before breathing it, preventing them from being affected by the plague.
Did it work Well, not really. The germs that caused the plague did sometimes travel through the air, but good – smelling medicine wasn’t able to stop them. Many doctors still got sick by breathing through the nose holes in their masks. Some plague only spread through bites from fleas (跳蚤) and rodents (啮齿动物). The doctors’ uniforms did help protect them from this danger. However, it was largely the coat, gloves, boots and hat that did the job, not the bird mask.

You may have seen a barista (咖啡师) pour milk foam (奶泡) into a coffee, then you can see a beautiful pattern (图案). But have you seen the art in a cup of tea
Dian cha is a tea at from the Song Dynasty. The art begins with pouring water over fine powdered (粉状的) tea, creating a paste (糊) and then adding more hot water, whisking (搅动) it by hand with a bamboo whisk. It is believed that the art later spread to other parts of East Asia, including Japan. In 2019, it was listed as an intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) of Runzhou district Zhenjiang city, Jiangsu province.
The Shanghai designer Han Zhemin has been interested in dian cha since childhood. “My mother loves traditional culture and I have been influenced,” said Han. After he graduated from the China Academy of Art in Zhejiang province in 2006, Han tried his best to reviving (复兴) the art form.
He said during the process of dian cha, the froth (泡沫) tried his best to paper while the tea paste is like ink. But “drawing” on the tea foam is not easy. “Traditional paintings is about the soft brush against the hard paper, but the tea is about the hard teaspoon and the soft froth.” Han said.
Creating patterns on the tea foam is careful but quick work. Usually, the whole process has to be completed within 10 minutes. The ideal state is when the tea’s temperature is around 40℃ and ready for the palate (味觉). “Usually, it takes a year of practice for one to be able to do it,” Han added.
To spread dian cha culture, Han put the process of tea whisking and drawing on social media platforms, including Xiaohongshu, Bilibili and Douyin, attracting more than 20, 000 followers. When taking about tea art Han said we should increase the beauty rather than change the essence (本质) of tea. “I want more people to understand the processes and reasons of tea making,” he explained.

Zhou Jiangtao passed away at only 17 years old. He got bone cancer when he was 13. Four days before the announcement of his death, he asked to donate his organs (器官). “I do know the pain of suffering from disease and the helplessness of having no cure (治愈方法) …I’ve seen so much sadness and regret and want to offer help.”
On the day he ‘‘left’’, two patients who had been waiting for cornea transplants (角膜移植) were told they would get donations. Zhou’s body was moved to Zhejieng University School of Medicine on the same day.
It has been 12 years since China started a national pilot (试点) programme for human organ donation. According to the China Organ Donation Administrative Center, about 300,000 people across China are waiting for life-sustaining (维持生命的) organ transplants, but only 20, 000 receive transplants each year.
In recent years, organ donation and transplantation have gotten more public support in China. As of April 2, more than 4. 62 million people had signed up (登记) for organ donation, said the center. As many as 75 people can benefit from a single donor (捐献者). There’s no age limit to donation, while people under 18 need a guardian’s consent (监护人同意).
In China, there are some deeply rooted traditions about the bodies of dead people. For example, many believe the body is a gift from one’s parents. So, they think dead bodies must be kept complete.
But many others have changed their beliefs. Donating organs is a way to help others and extend (延展) the meaning of one’s life. Increased willingness has been seen among young and
middle-aged people, noted People’s Daily. “Dedication (奉献) makes life more precious (宝贵的) than oneself,” Zhou once said.

Teamwork is really important for any class or team to achieve its goals and purposes. Let me give you some reasons why teamwork is so advantageous.
As individuals (个体), we each have different talents, strengths, weaknesses and experiences. A team is like a tapestry that weaves (编织) what each of us owns, coming up with a final product with different colors or patterns, but fantastic. As team members exchange thoughts and experiences, there can be more efficiency (效率) at problem-solving. This sharing of talents can also lead to greater creation and success. Take Leicester City (莱斯特城足球俱乐部) for example. It won the Premier League in 2016 to the surprise of many soccer fans. Leicester City was often considered as the loser. But it showed perfect teamwork that led to its final victory in soccer history.
Next, teamwork helps to increase efficiency and productivity as members share the workload. When work is divided, each of us in a team shows his own advantages in specific tasks. Teamwork reduces the stress and makes it possible to complete tasks on time. So we can expect greater job satisfaction.
And finally, working in a team may help increase learning chances for the members involved. Team members learn from more experienced members who can offer deeper views. And newer members may also provide latest ideas. Besides encouraging the sharing of knowledge and experiences, teamwork also develops skills like communication and interpersonal skills. We learn to respect differences in working styles and opinions, and develop trust when working with others.
In spite of (尽管) some advantages in teamwork, some more talented people still think working alone means being the star of a project, and there’s no need to share the success or pride with others, even though with a little more time. But the loss of working together may also prevent the team from reaching its fullest end.

Is Space Tourism a Good Idea
“The most profound (深远的) experience I can imagine” is how actor William Shatner described the four minutes he spent in space. He was one of four passengers on board billionaire Jeff Bezos’ rocket, called New Shepard.
It was the second time that the rocket had successfully taken tourists into space. Bezos believes that in the future, millions of people will live and work in space. This will reduce the amount of pollution being caused on Earth.
However, Prince William says people should fix problems on Earth before going to space. “We need to put the world’s greatest brains together to try to repair this planet, instead of trying to find the next place to go and live. “ he says. What do you think Is space tourism a good idea
YES-- “It is the future and it will save the Earth.”
The developing technology will allow people to live and work in space in the future. People could move polluting businesses away from Earth and into space, which will protect the planet.
The projects are complicated (复杂的) and require lots of people working on them. This creates lots of new jobs for scientists and engineers.
Let’s not forget that going into space is also a lot of fun. Besides, humankind likes to explore and to find out what it is capable of achieving.
NO-- “It is a fantasy and waste of money”
Billions of pounds could go towards feeding hungry people, housing those without homes and providing medical treatment for people in need. The time and money spent on space tourism could also be used to develop technologies to protect the environment and the planet from climate change.
What’s more, space travel does more harm than good. This is because rockets create huge amounts of pollution as they burn tons of fuel in order to fly into the sky.
Lastly, space tourism is only for the rich. Few people can afford to buy a ticket to space.
Because of this, it will only end up being the wealthiest who get to go.

When talking about livestreaming, you might think of makeup vloggers and movie stars. But Zeng Qinghuan, a 30-year-old from Xinhua County in Loudi, Hunan, has turned her whole village into a livestreaming room, using e-commerce to help her people live a better life.
Known as “Xiangmei Xinbao” on Douyin, Zeng now has more than 3 million followers and almost 40 million “likes”. During the past two years, she has posted about 370 short videos showing the culture and life of people in her hometown. Through livestreaming, she has sold more than 100 million yuan worth of local agricultural products, like fermented tofu (腐乳), preserved pork and dried sweet potatoes.
Zeng used to study fashion design and work in big cities. She returned to her village to care for her sick grandmother, but later found that she could also build a career there. “I’m a daughter of the great mountains. I can also be a contributor to rural development in this new era (时代),” she said.
Rural revitalization (振兴) is a key part of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan(2021-2025). In June 2021, a law took effect to promote it as a national strategy, including attracting talent and protecting the natural environment.
Zeng hopes her experience can encourage more young people to return to their rural hometowns and make a difference. In 2021, after she became a deputy (代表) of the Loudi Municipal People’s congress (市人民代表大会), she put forward a proposal (建议) called “each village has one product and one livestreaming host of its own”. She plans to help train100 social media influencers (网红) for her county within three years, and now two villages have taken part in the project.
“Soon the rural areas will become a big stage, and being a farmer will be seen as a decent (体面的) job, too,” said Zeng.

In honor of international Women’ Day Chinese astronaut Wang Yaping sent a message to the women of the world from the Chinese space station.
Space has never changed its environment or lowered its level because of the arrival of women. There is already a lot of flight data telling us, there were no great differences in the ability between men and women. We can all complete the same training and assessment. And many physical and psychological characteristics of women can play an advantage in space. This is helpful for successfully completing the challenges. With the development of aerospace technology and commercial (商业的) aerospace, it has become increasingly common for women to take part in spaceflight. I hope all girls guard your space dreams of going to the sea of stars. One day, before you know it, when you look up, you will see that your dream is already within reach. It is possible that more and more women will take part in manned spaceflight missions (载人航天飞行任务). It will have a very important influence on the large-scale (大规模) and long-term human exploration of space in the future. It will make our careers in space exploration develop quickly and continuously. This also helps to encourage women to go after their dreams bravely and achieve a wonderful life. Ladies, although our nationalities, ethnicities (种族) and careers are different, but women all over the world are making the world more lively, more harmonious and warmer through their own efforts. I would like to take this opportunity to thank every female for their selfless contribution. I also wish every female would pick the brightest stars for the lives and careers they love in their own starry sky.

There are some problems that today’s society is facing. One of them is who should be responsible (负有责任的) for our elderly and how to improve their lives, and this is a serious one. I would like to suggest several possible ways.
First, bosses should think about their retired workers. At least they should leave one percentage of gains. But when it comes true, the company may be troubled because of higher costs.
Another way is to return the responsibility to everyone. This means each person must save during his working years to pay for his years of retirement. Some people find that it’s difficult for them to have pay for their daily life without trying to get extra to cover their retirement years. This means the government might have to step in to care for the poor.
The government can provide more money through government taxes (税) to increase the level of pensions (养老金). And some organizations should provide a comfortable life for them. However, as the present situation in our country shows, this is not a truly practical answer. The government doesn’t have enough money to care for the elderly, especially when it is busy trying to care for the young.
One further solution is that the government or social organizations set up some working places especially for the elderly.
In short, all these solutions have advantages and disadvantages. So we are expecting to put these solutions together so that we can provide the care we hope to give to our elderly.

Dear Judy,
Sister, how are you
I woke up this morning. It’s nearly Easter. Whenever it is Easter, I think of you. I’ll never forget seeing you for the first time when you were born. You were the sweetest little baby wrapped in a soft white blanket. How I loved kissing and holding you! I was a teenager and loved carrying you around. Sometimes people asked if you were my baby. I must have looked like a very young mother, but how proud I was in those moments.
However, things started to change for me as I never felt quite wanted. How sad when it was that I was green with envy.
Before your arrival, Mum was in no hurry to buy the things that I needed. But later I always had to wait and wait for her to pay my school fees or buy books and clothes. Everything was always late!
Your situation was different and Mum always made sure that you had the best of everything quickly. When you got a horse for your 6th birthday and started riding lessons, how jealous I was!
I slowly turned cold towards you and never gave you the warm hugs that you expected from me or showed an interest in your horse or your medals. I remember your sad face, probably wondering why I didn’t seem to care about you.
Today I considered that as I woke up. I have never spoken about this, or why that is so. Today I must say that I am very sorry for hurting your feelings. It was never your fault. You were too young to even realize it. All these years, you might have wondered what you did wrong that I didn't often speak with you.
Please forgive me! I want to be a real big sister to you again. If you can forgive me, we can start over and spend time together. You have turned into a beautiful young woman who I am so proud of. I would love to be close again.
Much love
Helen
