(2020.河南洛阳高一检测)It’s no secret that your personal characteristics directly affect how you interact with the world—but you might be surprised at just how deep it goes. Experts think that your personality can even affect how you exercise and influence what sports are suitable for you.
Highly Sensitive
“Highly sensitive people may be more uncomfortable with group exercise classes or team sports where they feel their every move is being observed. Additionally, they may feel more upset about an ineffective or a poor workout,” says researcher Elaine Aron.
For such people, individual or non-competitive activities like biking, running and hiking are ideal.
Type A Personality
Type A individuals often have an “all or nothing approach” to exercise. This personality type is known for sticking closely to their plan, not to mention being super competitive. However, this can cause them to stick too closely to a fitness routine, which means they might try to push past an injury.
To get better exercise results, Type A people need to be aware that following an exercise plan too strictly may limit their progress. They should be more flexible and listen to their body, especially when they are in pain.
Type B Personality
This laid-back group may get too lazy about their exercise plan, which prevents them from seeing results. They are often less willing to devote enough time and energy to their fitness goals especially if exercise is something that makes them anxious.
Type B individuals succeed in creative and cooperative environments, so team sports and group gym classes may be perfect.
Remember, there are plenty of ways you can adapt a fitness plan to suit your needs, regardless of your characteristics. Just keep in mind what you like.
1. Why might highly sensitive people be unwilling to take part in group sports
A. They will feel like they are being evaluated.
B. They don’t like socializing with other people.
C. They don’t consider themselves to be athletic.
D. They fear they’ll be let down by their teammates.
2. Type A people can be best described as ________.
A. determined
B. moveable
C. independent
D. sensitive
3. What is the purpose of the text
A. To help people understand what personality type they are.
B. To explain how personal characteristics affect exercise habits.
C. To identify the dangers of doing the wrong type of exercise.
D. To describe different types of workouts that are available today.

Devon Gallagher, a college graduate from Philadelphia, wants the world to know exactly where she’s been during her worldwide vacation in a
special way.
The traveller , who was born with a bone disease, had her right leg amputated (截肢)at the age of four. Although the amputation caused setbacks for Gallagher early on, she now sees it as nothing short of inspiration for living her best life.
To spread that message, Gallagher has taken to social media, where she shares photos of her travels across the globe, but instead of simply using a geo-tag, she writes her location across her artificial leg before taking a picture.
Now she has been taking pictures across the Continent, which show her cycling over the canal in Amsterdam, relaxing on a wall overlooking the city of Barcelona, posing with a waffle in Brussels, taking spectacular pictures in Athens and enjoying a river cruise in Budapest, all with the well-known locations written on her artificial leg.
“I get a new leg every two years and I can choose the design on it. One day I had a sudden thought to get a chalkboard,” Gallagher said. “My mum and grandmother weren’t too keen on the idea, but my friends thought it was great and told me to go for it, so I did.”
Gallagher said people often stare when she's writing on her leg, but once she shares the photos, she receives only positive feedback. “My leg hasn’t stopped me from doing
anything I’ve wanted to do,” she said. “I don’t know if it’s my determination to prove to myself that I can do it; anyway, I have been able to keep up with my peers and lead a pretty great life.”
Gallagher shows us that you should never let anything stand in the way of your dreams. And if life gives you an artificial leg, make art.
4. What message did Gallagher want to spread in her special way
A. She enjoys her travelling across the globe.
B. She suffers little from her leg amputation.
C. She looks on her misfortune as another form of blessing.

C
(2020.山东临沂高一检测)Germans have a word “wanderlust” which translated into English would be the desire to wander. Nowadays the opportunity to travel is endless. Thanks to low-cost airfares, travelling all over the world is very accessible and sometimes it’s even cheaper to fly out of the country than to travel within your own.
I have always had the feeling of wanderlust. As a young girl it started from me wanting to explore my local woods at the back of my garden. With me growing up, I have a sense of adventure. And I found my local woods being replaced with the Brazilian wetland, Pantanal, where I went last summer in search of jaguars, snakes and crocodiles.
The thing with travelling is always different. Even if you go to the same country, to the same town and stay in the exact same rest house, it would be a completely different experience. The people you meet will be different, and they will tell you their own travelling stories: stories of holiday romances, holiday horrors and stories that seem so suspect that you can hardly believe them until something ridiculous happens to you and you find yourself becoming one of those people telling your tales. Or maybe the difference is yourself.
When you travel you are forced to be in harmony with a new culture. Whether it’s eating a strange food, or staying with a family, where neither of you speak a common language and you have to communicate through hand movements and smiles, the experience gives me itchy feet to do it all again. And although wanderlust is originally a German word, the English idiom reflects a similar idea. Someone with that needs to leave or travel. This feeling to explore is found not only in language but in us.
8. Why is the Brazilian wetland mentioned in Paragraph 2
A. The author’s garden lies near it.
B. It’s similar to the author’s hometown.
C. It’s the desirable place for travel lovers.
D. The author intends to share her nature.
9. What do we know from Paragraph 3
A. There are many ridiculous travel stories.
B. Travel can change the way people view things.
C. The author prefers to go to the same country.
D. It’s interesting to know local culture and people.
10. What does the author mean by the underlined sentence in Paragraph 4
A. She feels the urge to take a tour once more.
B. The situation leaves her much discomfort.
C. Her feet feel too tired when she is abroad.
D. The experience makes her lose confidence.
11. In which section of a website can we read the text
A. Hobbies of the Germans.
B. Life around the world.
C. Fashion on the earth.
D. City tours and tips.
D
(2020.安徽芜湖高一检测)There are times when I set off for my running-group sessions with little enthusiasm. It might be because I’m tired, or stressed, or have had to tear myself away from something else. I'm the coach, so I can’t choose to give it a miss.
It was yet another cold, dark, wet evening and I wasn’t feeling the love as I gathered all the necessary outfits—head torch, reflective waterproof jacket, hat and gloves. No one
in their right mind will come out in this weather, I thought. But when I turned into the car park, my headlights picked out runners making a dash through the rain to our meeting point, where others were already working out to stay warm, with chat, laughter and hugs. They, too, I realized, might be tired, stressed or busy. But, unlike me, they had a choice about whether to come running or stay at home. And that makes their decision to come and to keep on coming. As on so many other occasions, I went home from the run feeling better than when I’d arrived.
I believe one of the strongest motivations behind these runners’ decisions to come along is being part of a group. Belonging to a running community makes running greater than the sum of its parts. It’s no longer just a workout; it’s a catch-up with friends, a laugh and a shared experience. It provides a space to share your running triumphs and disappointments, to be congratulated and comforted, and, just as important, to congratulate and comfort others.
Research has long shown the likelihood of staying motivated is higher when exercise takes place in a group. The reasons are many, A study at the University of Southern California found people enjoy physical activity more when they are with others
and are more likely to keep it up over the long term. There’s also an element of social facilitation—an “I’m not going to let XX beat me” attitude that drives you to push harder and produces a greater sense of achievement. And research by Strava in 2017 found running in a group made runners go faster and further. Using data from 90 million runs taking place all over the world, Strava found that the average pace of runs taking place in a group was seven seconds per mile quicker than solo runs, and the distance covered was an average of 1.3 miles further.
I joke about people being more motivated to come to my running sessions by the tea and biscuits afterwards than by the running itself. There’s probably some truth in that, but it doesn’t matter. Those laughter- and chatter-filled minutes are every bit as important as the running in between.
12. How does the author sometimes feel to go coaching the running group
A. Unwilling.
B. Content.
C. Excited.
D. Frustrated.
13. Why is being part of a group most motivational
A. It involves a coach offering assistance.
B. It creates space to socialize with others.
C. It inspires members to beat their records.
D. It frees runners from boring daily routines.
14. That being in a group promotes performance is proven by ________.
A. citing a typical example
B. listing accurate statistics
C. performing an experiment
D. sharing his own experiences
15. What are tea and biscuits in running sessions meant to do
A. To attract more runners from other groups.
B. To build up some strength before running.
C. To make his running group stand out of all.
D. To add more life to their running experience.

(2020.辽宁鞍山高一测试)Curling(冰壶) is a winter sport played on ice. Therefore, it’s most popular in northern countries like Canada. Curling is played in the USA by about 15, 000 people. 16 Scottish winters were long and there were few forms of entertainment. So people began making a sport out of sliding heavy stones on the frozen lakes. The game spread, and in the 1700s curling clubs formed. Then Scottish soldiers brought it to North America.
17 Men, women, and children often compete on the same team, if they can slide a forty-pound stone down the ice! Both teams slide their stones toward the same goal. After all 16 stones have been cast , the team whose stone has slid closest to the goal gets one point.
18 The ice is so smooth and the stone is so heavy that even the smallest misjudgment in a throw can make the stone slide much too far or stop too suddenly.
19 Water helps the stone slide, but it can also change the stone’s path.
In curling, a broom is part of each player’s equipment. A good curler must know how much force to use. The player must know the exact conditions of the ice on the court. 20 That may explain why the International Olympic Committee decided to make curling an Olympic sport in 1998.
A. Players compete on the court.
B. Then the play begins in the other direction.
C. Curling is played by teams of four people.
D. In other words, a good curler must be a fine athlete.
E. The rules are easy to learn, but playing the game is hard.
F. The melting of the ice makes things tough for the curlers.
G. Curling probably began in Scotland in the 1500s or earlier.

When I was eleven years old, I had a big accident. I get scared even now when I think about that time. I went skating near my house. There were many people, and I saw some of them filling on the ice.
It was my first time to go ice skating , so I was nervous. I was wondering how to skate.
I went with a friend who was very skillful. He spent some time teaching me how to skate, but I didn’t learn much. He left me and skated all around. As soon as he left, I fell down. I envied the other people because they could skate very well.
I was bored because I kept falling, so I took off my skates and just walked around on the ice in my shoes. It was cold and my hands were frozen.
Suddenly, I stepped on something that was not hard. What was it It was a weak place in the ice. When I stepped there, I sank under the ice. I thought that I was going to die, but I did my best to grab something to get out from under the ice. I tried to grab the edge of the ice, but it was very difficult for an eleven-year-old child.
It seemed like a very long time, like a year. Then, fortunately, someone helped me. He grabbed my arms and pulled me up. So, I lived and I’m still alive today.
I thanked him. At that time, my friend came back. I was annoyed at him because he was supposed to take care of me, but he didn’t. He was embarrassed. When I took a taxi home, the taxi driver was surprised and asked what had happened. I didn't want to say anything because I was tired and scared.
由题干中的Type A people定位至Type A Personality部分;根据该部分中的“This personality type is known for sticking closely to their plan, not to mention being super competitive.”
根据第二段中的“Although the amputation caused setbacks for Gallagher early on, she now sees it as nothing short of inspiration for living her best life.
My leg hasn’t stopped me from doing anything I’ve wanted to do可知,Gallagher很有决心; 由第三段中的but instead of simply using a geo -tag, she writes her location across her artificial leg before taking a picture可知, Gallagher很有创造性,故选C。
Now she has been taking pictures across the Continent, which show her cycling over the canal in Amsterdam可知,which引导非限制性定语从句,which指代先行词pictures,故B项正确。
最后一段中的“And if life gives you an artificial leg, make art.”
根据第二段中的“With me growing up, I have a sense of adventure...crocodiles.”
根据第四段可知,在旅游过程中你要融人新的文化环境,适应新的群体;“And although wanderlust...Someone with that needs to leave or travel.”
上段讲的是冰壶的游戏规则,本段讲的是冰壶的游戏规则学起来容易,但具体操作起来并非易事,所以用“The rules are easy to learn, but playing the game is hard."
The melting of the ice与空后的Water呼应。故选F。
20.D. 根据下文的“That may explain why the International Olympic Committee decided to make curling an Olympic sport in 1998.

从作者说话的内容“From here on, nothing drops.”

keep sb. from doing sth.
It’s my turn表示“轮到我了”。

One possible version:
Dear Sir/Madam ,
I am writing to ask you to look for a Chinese student.
Yesterday, my roommate Tony was on the way to the classroom when he fell down and could hardly move. Just at that moment, a Chinese girl came to him. She gave him first aid and called an ambulance. But the girl left quietly before Tony could say thanks to her. The girl is about 18 years old and of medium height with short hair. Tony is eager to meet her to express his sincere thanks. Could you please help find her
I will appreciate any help you can give. .
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节One possible version :
It was long before I went skating once again, accompanied by one of my friends. This time I was careful and cautious , and my friend took special care of me. I was so fortunate this time that I managed not to fall down. Gradually I learned to skate well and became skillful. I felt very confident and no longer scared.
However, ever since then I haven’t found any time to go skating, not because I do not like skating, but because I am too busy working. I’ve learned a lot from these two skating experiences. We all have moments of desperation. But if we can face them bravely, that’s when we find out how strong we really are. Whatever you do, you must have the patience to do it as well as the skill. Remember: never get conceited because of
victory or lose heart in case of failure.
