In the first reading passage the author uses his own experience to describe the challenges of building the railway and the solutions to these problems. In this way, the author wants to tell us that we should protect nature while constructing and developing human society. In the second reading passage the author explains the best job in the world, its requirements and its duty to raise the public awareness of the beauty of nature, and to understand the delicate balance of nature. Both of the passages stress that human beings should protect our environment and live in harmony with nature.
