Step I Preparation and lead-in
1.Ask students to talk about their new school life Use the cues to help them.
Give students several minutes to prepare a speech, and then let them give it.

T: After reading this form, how do you think people can find a perfect roommate
Ss: They are supposed to take a look at each other’s basic information, as well as the preferences and habits. Do they match in some way In other words, are their choices similar
T: It seems that the lifestyle plays an important part in one’s life, which has an effect on how you get along with the society. During this week, we will focus on this topic—LIFE CHOICES. Now can anyone tell me how you understand this phrase
Ss: Maybe it is about how people live their life.
T: Actually, the lifestyle is a way of life or style of living that reflects the attitudes and values of a person or group When we talk about people’s lives, what adjectives are most likely to be used
Ss: (Ss may give different adjectives.)
T: Now check yours with the Key Words (exciting interesting, stressful, boring, challenging) on Page 6.
3. Make sure students know the meanings of these words. They can check the meanings in the dictionary.
T: Very nice! The words “exciting” and “stressful” are the two most frequently used adjectives, while talking about LIFE. Are you clear about their usages In what situation or sentences do we use them
Paraphrase for “stressful”:
causing a lot of anxiety and worry
E.g.
Moving to a new house is a very stressful experience.
Keeping the whole thing a secret is obviously very stressful for her.
Looking after small children can be very stressful.
What’s the most stressful aspect of your job?
Hotel managers must be able to get along with all kinds of people,even in stressful situations.
Paraphrase for “challenging”:
(1)difficult in an interesting way that tests your ability
(2)done in a way that invites people to disagree or argue with you,or shows that you disagree with them
E.g.
Mike found a challenging job as a computer programmer.
Mona gave him a challenging look.
I’m ready to do all those things which are more challenging.
There will be many difficult and challenging days ahead.
On PC,the game had it all—imaginative storyline and characters, challenging gameplay,superb graphics.
【设计意图】该环节属于本堂课的导入环节和本单元话题的导入环节,通过寻找室友,可以从侧面展现出自己在生活中的一些爱好和需求。同时通过对新校园生活的描述,掌握一些重点词汇,如:stressful,exciting,challenging等等。

In my previous school we didn’t have either of these. I’m looking forward to learning many new subjects in this school. Our head teacher is very friendly too which makes me happy.

Step III Writing practice
1.Ask students to use the language they have learnt to write a short paragraph about their new school life Then share it in groups.
Suggested answer: I am a new senior secondary school student M new school life is very interesting because this school has excellent students and much more dynamic than my previous school. I know that high school lessons are more important than before, so I will try my best to make great progress in my study I hope in the next three years I will have a happier, more fruitful and satisfying school life.
2. Ask several students to read each quote and the background notes. Then explain them to the students.
