Lesson26 Cookies, please
I. Teaching aims and demands
Knowledge aims:
Students will learn to use the following words and expressions.
Eg: pay, price, advertising, ad, product, make money, pay for,
bake sth good to eat, I need some advertising. What will be your price etc.
Ability aims:
(a) Students will develop their guessing skill and learn to listen and read for information.
(b) Students will be able to use what they learned to write easy advertisements and talk about their products in English correctly.
Moral aims:
(a) Arouse the Ss’ curiosity and stimulate their imagination and creation by talking about the ads for new products.
(b) Encourage the Ss to be helpful and have a right way to spend their money.
II. Teaching keys and difficult points.
The teaching keys and difficult points are based on Lesson 17 in the teaching material's position and function.
(a) Key points:
Be able to express words,phrases and sentences in English.
(b) Difficult points:
How to express themselves correctly and clearly in English when they write advertising for products.
III. Analysis of the students
The students in Grade Nine have already had some interests and abilities of learning and speaking English. They are interested in this topic and would like to cooperate and communicate with others in class. What’s more, they are full of imagination and creation, but they have no chance to show themselves. They still have trouble in expressing themselves.
Part Two. The Teaching Methods and Learning Methods
I. The Teaching Methods
1. Situational teaching method
2. Audio-visual teaching method
3. Task-based teaching method
In this lesson, I’ll mainly use “Situational teaching” method, and “Task-based teaching” method. That is to say, I’ll help the Ss get a better understanding of the topic. I’ll give the Ss some tasks and arrange some kinds of activities: talking, watching PPT .
II. Learning ways
As an English teacher, my duty is not only to teach the students some English knowledge, but also to teach the Ss how to be successful language learners and form good learning habits..
1. They will learn new words by guessing through the context.
2. They will learn a lot by listening and communicating.
3. They will learn the language skills by using.
III. The Teaching Aids
Multi-media computer.
Part III.Teaching Procedure:
I’ll finish this lesson in eight steps.
StepI. Lead in
1. Play a video for students to know about the advertisement.
Ask “What did you see just now ” Show the word “advertisement” .
Ask “What are the advertisements for ” They can help us know about what we want to buy.
Students’activity
Watch and say, guess and learn the word “advertisement” naturally.
2. Show a passage for students to read .
Mr. White has a factory which can produce many products every year. To make more people know about his products and like them, he often pays a lot of money to advertise his products on TV and on the Internet. He thinks advertising is a good way to sell products. What’s more, people can buy his products at a low price. Soon, his products sell very well. In this way, he has made a lot of money. How happy he is! He is going to help others with the money.
Students’activity
Ss read, guess and learn the new words through the context.
Read and translate the new words into Chinese or from Chinese into English. Then try to use them.
1) New words and phrases:

Practise the pronunciation and spelling.

Step II. Listen and fill in the blanks.

Listen and answer. Learn about the text and train their listening for key information .
Step III. Read and answer
Read the text and let the students finish the tasks.
1. They need to make some money for their football team. (T or F)
2. What will Brian do in order to make money (To bake something good to eat.)
3.What’s the price of the cookies (Four for a dollar.)
4. Who will invent a new product ( Danny)
5. Why don’t we think of things that our classmates want to buy (英译汉)
Purpose of my designing:
Get the students to know further information about the text to improve their reading skill and how to answer questions correctly.
StepⅣ.Act the dialogue and learn the language points.
Have the students fill in the blanks and tell the differences between them, then sum up. I will help them if necessary.

Purpose of my designing:
Presenting the language points in the exercises will help the students master the language points well.
StepⅤ.Discussion
Firstly, The teacher tells the students what advertising he likes best. Let some students introduce their favourite advertising to the class. Then encourage them to write advertising for Brian’s cookies. They can work in groups and show theirs later. See which group can design the best ad. Give them remarks in time.
Eg:
只管去做。Just do it. 我就喜欢。I’m loving it.

StepⅥ. Oral practice
Talk about our new products.
1. the teacher’s product
First, I will tell students I also want to break a world record like Danny. I want to invent a new product that is not funny but very useful to people. Ask the students to guess what it is.
Then I will present my new product on the multi-media. Get the students to learn about my product by asking and answering.
Eg: 1) What is it called ( It looks like a plane and a bike , so it is called a plike.)
2) What can a plike do for people (It saves time and makes less pollution)
3) Why do I invent it
4) How can people know about it (Advertise for it)
5) What’s the price of a plike (not high/low)
6) What will I do with the money (I don’t think money is the most important.---)
Students’activity:
They listen,think and answer,get ready for the following activity.
2.the students’ products
Get the students to talk about their own products. Try to make them funny or useful. Help them with some questions.
1) What product do you want to invent
2) What can your product do
3) Who will want to buy it
4) What will you do to sell it best
5) How much will people pay for it
6) How will you deal with the money you make
If time is possible, get the students to write about their own products. Praise those who do a god job and help those who are in trouble.
Students’activity
Develop their thinking and speaking in English.
StepⅦ. Summary:
At last, I will end the lesson with a summary.
We are living in a new world. All around us are all kinds of ads. We can see them on TV, radios and computers. When you go to school, you can see the names of the shops which also attracts many customers in many ways. Choose the best one to present it to the class. Why do you think it is good What do the others think of it Do you always believe what the ads say Observe them with your own eyes, you will find more interesting things.
Purpose of my designing:
Make the beginning and the end agree with each other. Help students to think more about the ads. Learn new words by guessing.

Finish writing your own products.
Finish off the exercises in Activity book.
Part Four: Reflection on Teaching
In this lesson, I use many ways to arouse students’ interests in English and make each student imaginative and creative in class. Everyone behaved actively. Each step is taught according to the teaching aims. The activities are closely connected to the text. They are helpful for the students to understand the text better. The students can improve their abilities of listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating.
