文本分析:
[What]本节课的主要内容是Subject clauses。首先结合课文内容,引导学生总结主语从句的特点和用法,然后学习“喜剧演员外表呈现的并不是内心真正的情绪”“中国第一位女空降兵马旭”两段材料。
[why]通过文本阅读,进一步巩固学生对主语从句的理解和掌握,提升学生在真实语境中的综合运用语言的能力。
[How]本课时包含两段文本,第一段文本呈现了大量主语从句,为学生总结语法知识点提供了真实语境;第二部分是一篇人物生平事迹简介,按时间顺序一一展开,语言言简意赅、通俗易懂,易于学生总结。

1. 学习和总结主语从句的结构和表意功能,通过习题操练,掌握主语从句的用法,并能在真实语境中正确熟练运用。

Step I学习理解
活动一:感知与注意
1. Ask students to read the following sentences and pay attention to the words in bold.
a ... what I say is that my pictures aren’t hurting anyone, so who cares b “That my pictures aren’t hurting anyone is what I say, so who cares ” c It’s true that inner beauty is very important... d That inner beauty is very important is true...
2. Ask students to discuss the questions below and share in groups. Check answers as a class.
What is the role of the words in bold in each sentence
In sentence (a), what does “what” refer to
What does “it” refer to in sentence (c)
Why does the author choose to use sentences (a)and (c) instead of sentences (b) and (d)
Suggested answers: The role of the words in bold in each sentence is to act as the subject of the sentence. In sentence (a), “ what” refers to the thing(s) that/ which the speaker says In sentence (c), “it” refers to “that inner beauty is very important”. The author chooses to use sentences (a) and (c) to place the focus on the end of the sentences, rather than the beginning.
3. Encourage students to look for more similar sentences in the passage.
4. Have students conclude the functions and usage of subject clauses in their own words.
【设计意图】由上一篇文本中出现的主语从句,引入本课语法知识,激发学生思考,鼓励学生大胆基于已知,讨论主语从句的用法和功能,为下一步阅读及语法学习奠定基础。
活动二:获取与梳理
1. Ask students to read the passage and try to catch the main idea.
It is a well-known fact that/what the faces some people show to the world might be completely different to their real personalities. For instance, most comedians never cease to have smiles on their faces and always sound cheerful because that’s the nature of their work. From this, it’s impossible to know what/where their true feelings are. Smiles imply happiness, but remember—although they might be laughing on the outside, they might be weeping on the inside. That/How others are feeling is not something that we should make assumptions about, because it’s not always obvious who is truly happy. What/That is certain is that comedians often use comedy to help them understand themselves and the world. In fact, comedy is a very serious job indeed!
2. Have students choose the correct words based on what they have learnt.

活动四:描述与阐释
1. Learn some information about Ma Xu.
Background information: 马旭是中国空降兵部队第一代女空降兵,服役时浴血沙场﹑精忠报国,抗美援朝期间,马旭被授予抗美援朝纪念章﹑保卫和平纪念章和朝鲜政府三等功勋章;年届50岁时,潜心科研,研制出“充气护踝”和“单兵高原供氧背心”等发明专利,享有“军中居里夫人”美誉;6o岁离休后,悬壶济世,为贫苦百姓义诊;人到暮年时,更是将毕生积蓄1000万元无偿捐献给家乡的教育事业,被誉为“新时代最可爱的人”。 马旭与丈夫在军内外报刊发表了100多篇学术论文和体会,并撰写了《空降兵生理病理学》《空降兵体能心理训练依据》,填补了我国在这方面的研究空白。 2019年1月荣获“冰城楷模”、2018“感动龙江”年度人物。 2019年2月18日,马旭获评“感动中国2018年度人物”。2019年9月5日,马旭当选第七届全国道德模范,并在座谈会上发言。 2019年12月,获得全国离退休干部先进个人称号,并在表彰大会上做了发言。 2019年12月,被评为第七届湖北省道德模范助人为乐模范。 2020年6 月,被评为2019“荆楚楷模”年度人物。
2. Ask students to read the profile about Ma Xu on Page 5 and try to catch the main idea &. details of each paragraph on their own.
3. Have students write an introduction to Ma Xu based on the profile. Remind students that at least three or four subject clauses should be used in their introduction.
4. Encourage students to read their introductions while others could offer some advice after listening.
【设计意图】围绕语境学习中国首位女空降兵马旭的背景知识,为阅读扫清障碍。让学生通过独立阅读,理解文本大意,并将语段改写成一篇人物简介。教师指导学生在具体语境中掌握主语从句的用法并感受马旭老人奋斗不止和无私奉献的无疆大爱。

1. Ask students to work in groups and summarise the grammar.
2. Encourage students to share the usage of subject clauses in class.

活动八:想象与创造
1. Encourage students to work in groups and think of another famous person and give an introduction to the class.
2. Ask students to use three or four subject clauses in the introduction.
3. One representative should be chosen from each group to share his/her introduction in class.
4. Teacher evaluates students’ introductions.
【设计意图】要求学生用英语描述自已了解的名人故事,每个小组派代表在班级里分享、展示,教师做出评价。让学生在真实的语境中运用已学的主语从句,实现知识和思维能力的拓展与迁移,引导学生形成正确的人生观,培养学生自强的性格和品质。
