文本分析:本节课的阅读语篇,分别是三位读者对春节的叙述。第一篇是现居南京的交换生Tom对春节的叙述及感受,作者恰当地运用first, next, the greatest excitement, then等词有条理地叙述了几个重要的春节习俗及其含意,如:扫尘、贴福字、燃放爆竹、吃团圆饭等。第二篇是在上海工作的28岁工程师徐刚对春节回老家过年的叙述及感受。对于像徐刚这样漂泊在外的人,春节回家团聚是永恒的主题。第三篇是一位退休祖母对于春节的叙述及感受。对她而言,儿孙满堂、家人团圆是春节永恒的主题。
三个语篇虽独立成篇,但却互为补充,通过语篇的事实性信息和语言表达方式,将春节的意义、习俗、传统和过节流程的叙述有机整合在一起,使读者对春节有了全面的认识。
课时目标:
1. 掌握重点词汇和句型:immediately, gathering, snack, decoration, account, summarise, host, sweep, character, attach, expectant, scare, flight, wine, surround, accent, hotpot, retired, roughout, original, custom, put up, let off, sweep away, upside down, scare sb / sth away等。
2. 理解被动语态的结构、含义及用法。
3. 了解春节的意义、习俗及过节流程,领悟辞旧迎新、阖家团圆是春节永恒的主题。

Step I Lead-in
1. Present several pictures of Spring Festival to students and ask them to answer some questions.
T: What does Spring Festival mean to you What words immediately come to your mind for describing its meaning
S1: Spring Festival means buying new clothes for me and eating delicious food. The word happiness comes to my mind immediately.
S2: Spring Festival means that all the family members get together and have a big meal. The word reunion comes to my mind immediately.

T: Well done. Thank you. Now, let’s look at other her questions.

Step Ⅱ Pre-reading

T: Well done. Thank you. Spring Festival can mean different things for different people. Read the three readers’ accounts. Then use a few words to summarise the meaning of Spring Festival for each account.
【设计意图】以问题的形式引入本课的主题Spring Festival,由此引起学生的学习兴趣,自然引入主题。通过这个练习可以让学生初步意识到如何介绍春节以及春节的有关活动。
Step III While reading
1. Fast reading
Ask students to read the three readers' account quickly and try to finish the following tasks.
Task 1:
Summarise the meaning of Spring Festival for each account.
Suggested answers: For Tom, Spring Festival means excitement and a lot of fun. For Xu Gang, coming home and being with his entire family is the most important part of Spring Festival For Li Yan, Spring Festival is family time.
Task 2:
Choose one student and ask him / her to talk about his / her experience of Spring Festival.
【设计意图】快速阅读环节中的问题可以培养学生快速阅读技巧和获取文章整体信息的能力,达到理解课文表层意思的目的。
2. Careful reading.
Ask students to read the three readers' accounts carefully and try to finish the following tasks.

Ask students to find at least three descriptive sentences in the accounts that provide a vivid picture of Spring Festival. Share with their partners.
Suggested answers: Fireworks were being let off across the city, suddenly lighting up the night sky. When I was a kid, Spring Festival was all about firecrackers, sweets and decorations. As I get older coming home and being with my entire family is the most important part of it. Our house buzzes with activities when everyone comes home.

Step IV Post-reading
1. Ask students to complete the information with the words or phrases they have learnt.
Tom Jenkins spent his first Spring Festival with his host family. A week before the festival, the host mother Mrs Chen began preparations. 1. Read the three accounts as much as possible and remember the new words and phrases.
