Step I Preparation and lead-in
1. Ask the following questions to make students interested in the topic.
When did you go to a wedding or a birthday party last time
How many people were there
What did they wear
hat time did it start/finish
What did people do
Did they enjoy it
2. Ask students to choose a special occasion that they like. Talk about when and how it is celebrated.

Step II Pre-listening
1. T: Now look at the Skill Builder. Let’s learn together.
2. Ask students to look at the two pictures and predict what they will hear in Activity 2 on Page 56.

Step III While listening
1. Activate and share.
Play the audio of an interview about parties for students and check their predictions. Then try to finish the following tasks.
Task 1
Complete the information about party advice in Activity 1.
Suggested answers: ·Dress appropriately: wear a neat black suit and a tie; small dinner/birthday ·Things to bring: snacks, puddings ·Socialising with others: host; goodbye; your congratulations
Task 2:
Listen again and answer the questions.

Suggested answers: 1 People chat and have a good time together with a group of close friends during dinner parties. People can dance, have fun and meet new people at big parties. People dress differently at formal parties and informal parties. 2 Dress appropriately. Adults should bring a bottle of wine or some beer. Teenagers usually bring snacks or puddings. Don’t be late. When you arrive, say hello and thank the host for inviting you. Introduce yourself and make small talk. Say goodbye and thank them when you leave. 3 I think it is useful to know that we should bring something small to a party, such as snacks. By doing this we can make the host happy and show the host we appreciate the invitation, which is very important.

Step IV Speech
1. Ask students to imagine they have been invited by their junior secondary school to give an English speech to the graduating students. Prepare a short speech for the graduation ceremony. Use the expressions in the Talk Builder to help them.
2. Ask students to take turns giving their speeches to the whole class.

Congratulations, my fellow students. You have come to the end of junior secondary school and are now looking ahead to new lives in senior secondary school, in which you may face some unexpected challenges...
