教学过程:
Step I Warm-up for writing
Give a topic and some information about the topic. Then ask students to write about celebration events they have had before. Discuss with their partners.

【设计意图】本活动为任务型活动。课时主题引入采取讨论方式,分享写作思路,锻炼学生收集材料、整理材料的能力,同时也激发学生的学习热情和参与课堂的积极性。
Step Ⅱ While reading
1. Ask students to read the description and answer the following questions.
1 Whose birthday was it 2 What did the family do to prepare for it 3 What gift did the writer make 4 How did Grandpa feel and what did he say
Suggested answers: 1 It was Grandpa’s birthday. 2 Mum cooked special food. They invited Grandpas friends 3 The writer made 'a video of Grandpa’s life story for him. 4 The event made Grandpa very excited. He said it was a wonderful birthday celebration and that he was looking forward to his eightieth, ninetieth and even one hundredth birthdays already.
2. Read the description again and try to finish the following tasks.
Task 1:
Underline the sentences about when, where, who, why, how, what.
Task 2:
Place the phrases in the correct order. Then add details.

Step Ⅲ Writing
1. Read the text again and ask students to underline the words used to link sentences and paragraphs. Then write 2~3 similar sentences for their writing. Use the Sentence Builder to help them.
2. Ask students to compose the writing according to the followings.
(1) Outlining: Complete the outline of an event description based on Activity 3 on Page 63.
(2) Drafting: Use the outline and the Writing help to write the first draft.
(3) Editing: Edit the description in pairs.
3. Encourage students to share what they have written in class.
