Speaking
Some foreign guests are visiting your school. As a school guide, show them around and introduce your school. Use the following questions to help you.

Work in groups to collect the information to answer the five questions.
Work together in the groups to turn the information into a short passage introducing the school.

How to introduce your school
Possible answer
Our school was built in 1980. Every day, we start lessons at 8:30 in the morning and finish at 4:30 in the afternoon. We study eight subjects: Chinese, maths, science, geography, history, art, PE and English. There are after- school clubs for sports including football, volleyball and table tennis. We also have a music club. We all wear smart school uniforms, and we are not allowed to be late for class.

Work in pairs. Role-play a conversation that may happen between a foreign guest and a school guide.
Possible answer
Guest: You start school at 8:30 and finish at 4:30. It’s
quite a long day for you. Do you have any breaks
Guide: Yes, we have breaks between school lessons and
at lunch time.
Guest: I see. How long is your lunch break Do students
bring lunch, or go to the shops to buy it
Guide: We have one hour for lunch, from 12:00 to 1 :00.
But schools in China are a bit different to
schools overseas. We have a canteen, so students
can have a hot lunch. We don’t need to bring
our lunch or buy it outside school.
Guest: That sounds like a good idea to me. The school
can give healthy food to the students.
Guide: Yes, it’s very convenient.
Guest: Speaking of lunch... I’m getting rather
hungry myself!
Guide: The principal has arranged lunch for all our
guests. In fact, it’s about time. This way, please.
