本节课是本单元的第三课时,通过开展听、说活动深入探究应用程序(APP)的功能、用途和开发等方面的知识。本节课涉及在语篇中渗透利用关键字迅速查找目标信息的学习策略的培养和在语境中学习和使用语用功能:寻求和提供帮助(asking for and offering help)。

活动一:相关信息预热
1. Provide the functions of WeChat in English for students to discuss:

【设计意图】通过使用学生熟悉的、广泛使用的应用程序—微信等开展讨论活动,充分调动学生学习的积极性。在课本第12页 Activity1中的一些语言提示的帮助下,学生能够使用恰当语言进行表达。这个活动不但激活主题,而且为接下来的听力铺垫了语言基础。

活动二:学习策略指导
Ask students to read the information in the Skill Builder box on Page 12. And make them understand it.
【设计意图】在听力活动之前讲解使用关键词抓住主要信息的学习策略,帮助学生提高听力效果。
活动三:获取与梳理
Ask students to read and answer the questions. Use the key words on Page 12 Activity 2 to help them. Then let students listen to an interview with an app developer,and check the answers.
Why are apps so popular?
What are the difficulties in developing an app?
What are the latest technologies used in apps?
Suggested answers: Apps are popular because they are useful and make t life easier. The difficulty is finding out what people need and solving real-world problems. The latest technologies used are VR(Virtual t t Reality),AR(Augmented Reality)and MR(Mixed Reality).
【设计意图】在这个过程中,学生获取了APP受欢迎的原因、开发APP的困难、在APP中使用的最新技术等主要信息,实践了使用关键词获取主要信息的学习方法。
活动四:整合信息
Ask students to listen to the interview again,and complete the information.
Suggested answers:
General functions find popular restaurants call for taxis find directions to different places
Uses of educational apps allow students to choose their online teachers and subjects according to their personal interests and needs ensure that students can all enjoy the same learning materials
Difficulties in developing an app find out what people need solve real-world problems

Ask students to answer the questions using the information in Activity 3 to help them.

Suggested answers: General functions include finding popular restaurants, calling for taxis, finding directions to different places and so on. Students can choose their online teachers and subjects on educational apps according to their personal interests t and needs. The most difficult thing is finding out what people need and solving real-world problems. (略)
【设计意图】通过回答问题,内化所学的APP的知识,提高语言技能,同时有利于激发学生参与活动的兴趣,激活学生与APP相关的主题经验,从而深化对APP的认识,发展学生独立思考的学习能力、批判性思维品质以及参与社会活动的责任意识。

活动六:交际用语学习
1. Ask students to listen to two conversations and answer the questions.

2. Ask students to listen and imitate. Then complete the Talk builder.

3. Ask students to look at the talk builder, Pick out the expressions that are formal/informal and explain why.
(1) Divide students into pairs. Tell students that they will discuss the difference between formal and informal conversations.
(2) Review students’ opinions. Explain to students that when they are talking to a family member, the conversation is informal; when they are talking to someone they don t know,the conversation is formal.
【设计意图】通过听两则对话,让学生准确获取并判断出在正式与非正式场合中寻求和提供帮助的功能用语,并帮助学生区分正式与非正式功能用语,为后面的语言输出做准备。
4. Role-play.
Ask students to role-play the following situations in pairs. Note the formal/informal use of language.
Student A:a mother who wants to choose an app
Student B:the son/daughter offering to help
Student A:a teenager preparing for a party
Student B:a friend offering to help to buy things online for Student A
