low-carbon life
The Earth is changing all the time and while some of these changes occur naturally, human activity has caused exceptional changes to the planet over recent years.
As the global population has rapidly increased, so has the demand for energy, land and water. This places many threats on the biodiversity of our planet.
Biodiversity means the variety of living things (such as plants and animals) in an area and how those different things depend on each other to meet their needs.

There are many kinds of energy（能）, including light, heat, elctricity, and sound. One kind of energy can also change into another.
Solar energy
Heat from the sun warms the air, land, and sea. Plants use the energy in sunlight to make their own food. We can use solar panels to change sunlight into electricity.
Motion energy
When things move very fast such as the wind, they generate（产生）a lot of energy. A wind turbine has blades. The blades turn in the wind to drive a generator（发电机）to make electricity.
Fuel energy
Fuels are rich in energy. Coal, oil, and gas are fuels. We burn them to make light and heat. Fuels come from the remains of dead plants and animals.
