A young first aid hero was able to save his father’s life，thanks to the Red Cross first aid training he had received.
Fifteen-year-old Mitchell Holmes, from Southampton, did not panic when his dad suddenly fell down because of a heart attack. Instead, remembering the training he had received, the young man immediately started to give his stricken father cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (心肺复苏）treatment，which helped to keep him alive until the ambulance arrived.

Mitchell said, “When I saw what was happening, instinct took over. Since I’d taken two Red Cross first aid courses, I knew what to do. I gave my dad CPR treatment until the ambulance arrived and the paramedics (护理人员)took over. They said it must have been a difficult thing but I didn’t feel scared at the time—I just knew what I had to do.”
Following the young hero’s swift action, his father Jeffrey (48) had a heart operation and has since made a full recovery.

Recognizing his bravery, a teacher at Mitchell’s school nominated him to attend the ceremony of the British Red Cross’ Humanitarian Citizen Awards, which will take place in London on November 17.
The annual awards honour the actions of young people aged 25 and under who have made a difference to someone’s life or their communities.
