Object Clauses 宾语从句
1. 宾语从句的定义
在复合句中充当宾语的句子,称为宾语从句。一般位于及物动词、介词和复合谓语(be sure, be afraid, be sorry, be glad等)之后。
2.根据引导词的不同,宾语从句分为三类:
that引导的宾语从句;
whether/if引导的宾语从句;
疑问词引导的宾语从句。
that引导的宾语从句
当从句为陈述句时,引导词用that,that只起连接作用,不作句子成分,在口语或非正式文体中通常省略。
whether/if引导的宾语从句
当从句是一般疑问句或选择疑问句时,引导词用if/ whether,意为“是否”。
疑问词引导的宾语从句
当从句是特殊疑问句时,疑问词就是引导词。疑问代词what, who, whom, whose, which 在从句中可作主语、宾语、表语或定语等;疑问副词when, where, how, why 在从句中可作状语。

如果宾语从句中叙述的是真理、实际情况或经常发生的事情时,
即使主句的谓语动词为过去时态,从句的谓语动词仍要保留一般现在时。

1.定语从句的定义
在复合句中,修饰某一名词或代词,起定语作用的句子称为定语从句。被定语从句修饰的名词或代词叫先行词,引导定语从句的词叫关系词。

3.定语从句引导词的省略
当引导词在定语从句中充当宾语成分时,可以被省略。

“After I finished secondary school, my results showed that I was better at doing things than at reading books. I had to decide how I wanted to make a living in the future.
