According to a research, more than 130 billion pounds of uneaten food go to waste in Laura's country each year. That is about 30% of the yearly food supply(供应). It is a sad fact, especially when you consider how many families and homeless people are in hunger.
When Laura saw her school dining hall throw away food that was not eaten at all every day, she came up with an idea. She started a project to help her school dining hall to give away uneaten food to homeless shelters(庇护所) in her community. In the past three years, the same project has spread to other schools and some fast food restaurants throughout the city. The project is called Feed & Find, and has already fed thousands of people in her city.
How does it work Through an app, Feed & Find matches local homeless shelters with school dining halls and restaurants that have uneaten food to provide. When dining halls or restaurants have uneaten food left, they can use the app to share the information about the food. A truck driver working for the project is then sent to pick it up and take it to a shelter.

Does my goldfish know who I am
I think this is a great question. I do spend my days 1 (study) how fish go about their lives. First of all, fish are much smarter than people think. People often talk of goldfish having three-second memories, but in fact they can learn all kinds of things, and remember them 2 quite a long time.
This shouldn't surprise us too much. Just like other animals, they can find enough to eat, and 3 (know) when it is safe to be out in the open. Being able to learn and remember things helps 4 (they) do this.
Many kinds of fish can tell one from another, according to their group, their relatives, 5 even their own eggs. But fish live in 6 very different world from us. For many kinds of fish, although seeing is important, 7 (sense) such as smell and touch are even more important.
So, does your fish know who you are I believe your fish will 8 (sure) know when it is feeding time. My own fish become very 9 (excite) when my hand appears near their tank, even before I drop the food in. I'm not sure that your fish will be able to remember what your face 10 (look) like, but I wouldn't be too surprised if it could remember you in other ways, perhaps by the sound of your footsteps as you walk towards the tank.

CCTV news media explained the importance of saving food to us. At the center was criticism(批评) of Mukbang, also known as “eating shows”. The hosts overeat to satisfy the curiosity of people, so as to get attention and money. However, what you see is not always the truth. The hosts pretend to eat 50 hamburgers in front of the camera. While behind the truth, they throw up the food that they have eaten. The food waste caused by eating shows is shocking and worrying.
“Eating show” hosts not only waste food, but also make the idea of wasting things acceptable. Young people are easily influenced by them. They may throw away some of the food they order at school. They should feel sorry about such behavior, but their favorite “eating show” hosts now make them believe that's all right. Millions of people across China and the world don't have enough food to eat. The food you waste could have meant a lot to them.

Wu Mengchao, the “Father of Chinese Hepatobiliary Surgery(肝胆外科)”, focused on saving people's lives for nearly eighty years. He performed more than 16,000 operations during his life. Thomas Edison, the inventor of the light bulb, believed that every failure was a step towards success. He once said, “If I find 10,000 ways something won't work, I haven't failed. I am not discouraged, because every wrong try is another step forward.”

If you have to describe yourself to someone else, what will you say It can be difficult to see yourself from the outside, but knowing who you are, namely self-awareness, can help you understand feelings and make friendships closer.
Self-awareness means having a good understanding of our own character, that is, having the ability to see ourselves clearly. If you're self-aware, you may know that you love playing an instrument because you do well in it, and music makes you happy, or that you prefer watching TV on your own because it helps you relax.
Knowing what you like and dislike, what you do well in and what you find difficult allows you to make better decisions about friendships, schoolwork and so on. You learn to trust your own feelings more, which builds confidence(信心). The World Health Organization says self-awareness is one of ten important life skills that help young people live happier, healthier lives. Being self-aware doesn't mean only thinking of yourself. By understanding your own feelings, you will better understand other people too.
How do you learn to be self-aware It's a good way to ask questions. But ask yourself questions that start with “What” instead of “Why”. So if you don't understand why you keep arguing with a friend, ask yourself what you disagree on instead of why you're arguing.
Learning to be more self-aware is a skill, which means you learn it as you grow. So be bold and try out new things, like playing a new sport or listening to different kinds of music. Don't be afraid to dislike something—discovering what you find difficult is a key part of learning more about yourself.

Today, by carefully choosing dog parents, humans have created many different kinds of dog. Each kind has its own look and talents, and its own role within human society. Here are three examples of “a dog's life” in the human world.
Today, many hospitals let specially trained dogs in to bring love and cheer to patients. Shaynee is a therapy(治疗)dog. She visits children who are in hospital. Dogs like Shaynee help patients feel calm and at peace, which can be hard in a busy hospital. They help both children and adults stay strong during long hospital stays, and, some suggest, even help them get better.
Today, some beagles(小猎犬) work in airports for the government. They are part of the program called the Beagle Brigade. A beagle is good for the work because of its powerful nose, and ability to follow smells. The Beagle Brigade's job is to smell everything that comes into the country. They make officers notice illegal(非法的)fruits, vegetables, and other foods in luggage or in mail. The beagles do the job far better than any human could.
While some dogs are working hard, others are free to spend their days resting and playing. Across the world, many pet dogs are treated like children. Many have their own rooms and all the things a dog could want. Some even have their own clothes. Many of these pets spend their days playing, learning to follow, or even going to classes. Their owners give them the best, and enjoy doing so.
Whether as workers or objects of affection(钟情), dogs have become helpful to humans in many ways. There are plenty of advantages for the dog, too. Many kinds of wild dogs have nearly disappeared from the Earth. However, the domestic dog's special place as “man's best friend” has allowed it to survive(存活) in a human world.
1.What is the main idea of Paragraph 2
A.Hospitals need many special dogs. B.Dogs can comfort patients.
C.Patients need love in the hospital. D.Doctors are too busy to see patients.
2.What does the underlined word “domestic” in Paragraph 5 mean
A.Trained. B.Smart. C.Hungry. D.Valuable.
3.What's the purpose of the passage
A.To ask people to treat dogs as their own children.
B.To explain why humans need beagles in their work.
C.To tell people about the history of dogs' development.
D.To show a good relationship between dogs and humans.
4.Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage

According to UNESCO, a large number of children in villages in some African countries like Kenya and Tanzania do not go to school. They have to work to make money for their family. And more than half of people in these countries live without electricity.
A company is now working to solve both of these problems. It has created a special solar(太阳的) power station, which is in the shape of a cow, called “Solar Cow”. The company encourages parents in those poor villages to send their children to school by setting up Solar Cows at schools.

You must have gotten used to the food waste that can be seen everywhere in the school restaurants. Recently, this problem was brought back into a discussion when China started an “empty plate” campaign(运动).
Different people can do different things to help reduce food waste. Schools and restaurants can start serving smaller sizes. The word is made up of “meta”, which means beyond, and “verse”, which refers to universe. The word first appeared in a 1992 science fiction book called Snow Crash. In this story, people wear virtual reality(VR) headsets to see and join the metaverse.
Now, what happens in the book is becoming a reality. Wearing a VR headset, you can meet other people wherever they are. You can work and play with them. It will feel real because the technology can simulate(模拟) our senses: vision(视觉), hearing, touch, and even smell.
“We're talking about creating another reality, another world, that's as rich as the real world,” said a vice president of a US tech company.
What can we do inside of the metaverse Your location(位置) will no longer matter. In the metaverse, “people..., would be connected at all times...” You can meet friends from other countries and go on a virtual beach vacation together. But forget Thailand—you can go to the beach on the moon, or anywhere else you can imagine.

Firefighting(消防) is an important job to keep people safe and help stop fires from damaging(毁坏) too much property(财产).

First of all, firefighters have to be strong enough to do their work, so they need to have physical training, such as carrying heavy objects, going up many stairs(楼梯), and working for a long time.
Just as its name suggests, the Solar Cow can charge batteries(给电池充电) called “Solar Milks”. The Solar Milks provide electricity for the families.

We should start thinking about how to improve our lifestyle when we are young. Here are three simple habits to be healthier.
Take care of your teeth
It may sound surprising, but there is a connection between brushing teeth and health.
Wondering if you're brushing enough A Scottish study found that people who brushed their teeth twice a day had a lower heart attack(侵袭) risk than those who only brushed them once a day.
Stay active
Telomeres(端粒) are a part of people's DNA. They are getting shorter and shorter as you age. People with high physical activity levels have telomeres that are nine years “younger” than those who are so-called couch(长沙发) potatoes. High physical activity levels mean 30 minutes of exercise five days a week.
It doesn't take much exercise to drive change. A study by Harvard found that as little as 15 minutes of exercise every day increased life length by three years.
Get good sleep
Sleep is like a “cleaning” for your brain. But not sleeping too much is also important. Getting less than seven or eight hours of sleep can cause an increased chance of death, but sleeping more than 11 hours a night is related to an even larger increase.
Try to keep some habits that help you sleep better, such as having a fixed bedtime and removing electronics from the bedroom.

Do you still hug your parents How do you feel when you hug them When do you need a hug the most
It was a cold November morning several years ago. My alarm clock had just gone off, but I was having trouble getting out of bed. My dad had died a few weeks before. I felt weighed down by sadness and depression.
Tough and strong, my dad had worked so hard all of his life to support us. He would sometimes shout at my brothers and me, but I always knew that he loved me. Still, he had been raised(养育) in a traditional way and raised us that way too. I couldn't remember, for example, ever being hugged by him.
After my mom and grandma passed away, my dad moved into Grandma's home. I was so happy to have him close by. I would often visit him and just talk with him about life. When do children start to talk If you ask a group of parents when this happened, most will say “around twelve months of age”. They will probably even remember what the children said. Many parents keep a diary of their child's “first words”.
We can never predict what a first word is going to be. Often it's the name for “mummy” or “daddy”, but it could just as easily be the word for an animal or a favorite toy. Everything depends on what has most caught the child's attention. But one thing is certain: after the first word, others come quickly. By 18 months, most children have learned about 50 words. By two, the total has risen to around 200.
Early words are actually one-word sentences. One of the first features(特征) of language a child learns well is to control the rise and fall of the voice to make the difference between stating and questioning. In English, daddy with a high rising tone(声调) means “is that daddy ” Daddy with a high falling tone means “There's daddy”. Of course, only very basic meanings can be communicated using tones alone. So it soon becomes necessary to learn some grammar.
In English, grammar means learning to put words in different orders. Children have to see that mummy push is different from push mummy. They start practising such changes at around 18 months. By two, they have learned the basic patterns of word order, and we hear them saying such things as man kick ball and where daddy go.
What are the parents doing all this time They're acting as teachers and they always have an active role to play in their child's language learning.

If you receive an email that looks something like this: ARE YOU GOING TO CLASS TODAY How do you feel by reading this message Why did the sender use all capital letters Was he or she angry, or did that person just forget to turn off the “Caps Lock” on the keyboard The fact is that this email is usually the way that people shout online. Knowing when to and when not to use capital letters is just one example of online manners. Here are some other suggestions about dos and don'ts for communicating suitably with others on the Internet.
First, always remember that you are sending messages to a real person, not just to a computer. The person who receives your message cannot hear the tone of your voice, or see the expression on your face, so make sure your meaning is clear.
Remember that people judge you by your words as well as your actions, so try to write well. Good writing skills, as well as correct grammar and spelling, do matter. Send polite, well-written email messages to others.
Remember that arguing online is not suitable. It's okay to show your ideas online. But don't start arguments with people. “Flame wars(口水战)” can be interesting to read, but they are often unfair to other members of the group.
Don't do anything online that you wouldn't do in real life. Don't type anything that you wouldn't say to anyone. Don't take anything without paying for it, unless it's free. Don't use information that someone else has written and say it's yours. Don't read other people's emails—you won't open your next-door neighbor's mailbox or read their mail, right
When you're online, just as in “real” life, try to respect other people's space, privacy and feelings. Remember you are not the only one who is travelling on this highway!
