Apart from speeches,in my point of view,we can use our eyes to express ourselves. And through one’s eyes,we can read sorrow, happiness, encouragement, and many other emotions.Eyes are always the most direct organs to reveal our thoughts.
Until now I still remember an experience, which happened when I took part in a singing contest at the age of nine.It was the power of my mother’s eyes that encouraged me to go for it.I had shown great interest in singing before that, but I was too shy to sing in public. So one day my mother took me to sign up for the singing contest. With my mother’s company and encouragement,I was determined to meet that challenge.Standing on the stage,I suddenly found I had become the focus of all attention.I got so nervous that I couldn’t even keep my eyes open. When it was my turn to be introduced to the audience and sing,I became even more nervous.I felt my legs were shaking and my memory seemed to have left me—I couldn’t remember anything.Searching for help,I met my mother’s eyes which were sparkling with encouragement and strong power. It seemed that they were speaking to me,“Take it easy. You can do it!I’ll always be with you!”I read the message in her eyes and at that moment I got my confidence back and began to sing my song. When I came down from the stage, she came up to me,saying,“Great!I’m proud of you!” and gave me a big hug.At that moment,I saw her eyes filled with tears of joy.Sometimes, you see, just a look of encouragement from a loved one can make a shy person brave.
1.What’s the author’s purpose of telling us about her unforgettable experience?
A.To prove that we can express ourselves through our eyes.
B.To explain that our eyes are an important part of our body.
C.To share her unforgettable experience with us.

A.the author wasn’t interested in the singing contest at all
B.the author was nervous because she couldn’t see her mother
C.the author didn’t do well in the singing contest
D.the author got confidence from her mother’s eyes
3.What does the underlined word “reveal” in the first paragraph mean?
A.Give away. B.Give up.

How to improve my life? Many people think that they have to accept whatever life throws at them. They’ll say,“This is my fate,my destiny.I cannot change it.”
Of course not!You don’t have to suffer needlessly.Your destiny depends on you,not on any other external factors.
I know someone who says she just accepts what life gives her because she has done everything she can to improve it.Guess what her lifestyle is?She wakes up in the morning, goes to work, comes back home, relaxes, chats with people, watches TV,then goes to sleep.Next day,the same routine cycle follows.
Huh!Is this what she calls “doing her best”?She believes she has tried her best and just accepts it in her heart that this is the life that God has intended for her to live;that her luck can only change if God wills it.Of course God wants us to be happy and live our life to the fullest, but we have to do our share of exerting(运用) the effort to live the life of our dreams.
Remember that you reap what you sow.You just don’t sit around and wait for a million dollars to fall from the sky.You have to get off the couch, get your eyes off the TV screen, get your hands off the phone.Don’t expect your luck to change unless you do something about it.If something goes wrong, don’t just regard it as a temporary setback;but use it as feedback.Learn your lesson, make the most of the situation, and do something to solve the problem. It’s not enough to think positively;you also have to act positively.
If someone’s life is in trouble,do you just hope and pray that things will turn out fine?Of course not!You get to do anything you can to save the person. So it is with your own life.It is not enough to hope for the best, but you have to do your best.In other words, don’t just stand (or sit) there,do something to improve your life.

B.Your luck can be changed by your efforts.
C.You can only achieve success when God wills it.
D.You should treat yourself in the way you treat friends.
4.In Para.5,the author emphasized the importance of ________.

Body language or,as it is also known,non-verbal communication,is about all the things that people say and do without using words.Research suggests that more than 70% of communication occurs without people having to say a single word.
Like language, the way we communicate non-verbally varies across cultures. But,unlike language,it can be very difficult to find out what the non-verbal rules are.
It’s all very well known that there are differences in the ways that cultures work, but what can you do to try to prepare yourself for living and surviving in another culture?
I think you’ve got two things to think about.I personally don’t fully accept the idea of “When in Rome,do as the Romans do”.I don’t think people expect you to completely adopt all of the things that they do.What I think that people would like is that you agree and understand it and that you do your best.
One of the things you can do is actually explain to the other culture, saying,“Well, you know, actually we don’t normally kiss in my culture,so it’s a bit uncomfortable.” But then do your best,so it’s a learning process.
Well, kissing is just one of many different ways of interaction that you need to know. You can get into difficult or embarrassing or even worse situations if you don’t know it.Eye contact, tone of voice, how close you stand, any touching, how many times you kiss,a long handshake,a short handshake it can go on and on.So I think, yes, you do need to get these correct and you need to have good observation skills.
56.Body language is ________.
A.not necessary B.not popular
C.not worthless D.not involving words
57.From the passage,it can be inferred ________.
A.only grown-ups have body language
B.body language can be understood by all the people all the time
C.only the same body language has the same meaning all over the world
D.body languages are not the same because their cultures are different
58.The passage is mainly to tell readers ________.
A.body language is important
B.to find out the rules of body language
C.when in Rome,do as the Romans do
D.to learn good observation skills
59.The underlined word “interaction” in the last paragraph is closest in meaning to “________”.
A.activity B.expression
C.difference D.communication

It feels like every time my mother and I start to have a conversation,it turns into an argument. We talk about something as simple as dinner plans and suddenly,my mother will push the conversation into the Third World War.She’ll talk about my lack of bright future because I don’t plan to be a doctor. And much to her disappointment,I don’t want to do any job related to science, either. In fact, when I was pushed to say that I planned to major(主修) in English, she nearly had a heart attack.

Nowadays_a_lot_of_schools_keep_their_students_in_school_all_day_long.Students have different opinions about it.Some of the students think they enjoy less freedom and have little chance to get in touch with society. They are not able to fully develop their interests and hobbies. Therefore, they have lost interest in their studies.
Some others think school is the best place to get knowledge so they should put their heart into their lessons. Some students lack the ability to control themselves.Once out of school, they may lose control of themselves and do something that will influence/affect their studies.
Personally,I think it necessary to keep students at school. But at the same time schools should organize various activities so that students can enjoy their school life.
