Step I 学习理解
活动一:感知与注意
Brainstorm.
Before reading, ask students to discuss the following questions:
(1) What festivals do you celebrate with your family each year?
(2) Why do you think people celebrate different festivals
(3) Which festival do you like best Why
Suggested answers:
(1) The Spring Festival, The Mid-Autumn Festival Tomb-Sweeping Day and so on.
(2) The Spring Festival is to celebrate the end of winter and the coming of spring and new life.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is to celebrate the harvest and admire the moon Tomb-Sweeping Day is in memory of the ancestors /to honour the dead.
(3)I like the Spring Festival because I can set off the fireworks, receive the lucky money and enjoy the gala with my family.
2.Predict.
Ask students to look at the picture and the title on Page 4 and predict what the text is probably about.

1.策略学习(Reading tips-the topic sentence)
Go through the reading tips the topic sentence with students Identifying the main ideas of paragraphs is necessary when analysing a text. Most paragraphs will have a“topic sentence”that tells you the paragraph’s main idea. It is often the first sentence,but sometimes it is found elsewhere in the paragraph.
2. Find the topic sentence of each paragraph.
Ask students to read the text quickly and find the topic sentence of each paragraph.

Today’s festivals have a wide of origins,including the seasons of the year,famous ,important events,and religions. The festival is one of the most popular festivals and is celebrated in many cultures. Customs play a
role in festivals,but they can change over time. For example,some Chinese cities no longer allow firecrackers during the Spring Festival,as they can increase air pollution. These days,festivals are becoming more , with people spending more money on gifts. Festivals people’s wishes,beliefs,faiths,and attitudes towards life.
