Step I学习理解
活动一:感知与注意(Talk about Festivals)
Ask students to read the following two festivals and talk about them。
Thanksgiving Day, as celebrated in North America, is a time to gather with family and friends to give thanks for the many blessings enjoyed by these nations and their citizens. However, to many people, its meaning is lost. It has become simply another day for huge meals, dinner parties, get-togethers or reunions. what does Thanksgiving mean to you Turkey dinners, cranberries, candied yams, stuffing, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie and family gatherings-these are all commonly associated with most Americans’ and Canadians yearly celebration of giving thanks— Thanksgiving Day!
Halloween is an autumn holiday that Americans celebrate every year. It means "holy evening", and it comes every October 31, the evening before All Saints Day. However, it is not really a church holiday, it is a holiday for children mainly.
【设计意图】在学习之前,呈现学生熟知的两个节日—感恩节和万圣节的图片和信息,并简单讨论节日的习俗,激活学生背景图式。
活动二:获取与梳理
1.Listen for specific information.(Part 1,P7)
First go through the questions with students and make sure they understand their tasks and then play the tape for students to listen and get the answers in Part 1.
Suggested answers:
1 Max is talking about his Christmas experience with his family
2 He decorated the Christmas tree and put presents under it.Then he helped his mum prepare for the family dinner on Christmas eve.
3 She cooked roasted turkey,mashed potatoes Christmas pudding,and apple pie.
4 They shared stories and told jokes during the dinner.
They played games with the children afterwards.
5 The best part was opening their presents on Christmas morning.
2.Listen and tick.(Part 2,P7)
Listen to the second time and tick the phrases that Max or Song Lin uses. If necessary,play the tape again for students to check the answers.

活动三:获取相关背景信息
Something about the Spring Festival in China.
The Spring Festival is the most important festival for the Chinese people, just like Christmas in the West.
It’s to celebrate the lunar calendars new year. In the evening before the Spring Festival, families get together and have a big meal. People put New Year scrolls on the wall for good fortune. In many places people like to set off firecrackers.
The Spring Festival falls on the lst day of the lst lunar month, often one month later than the Gregorian calendar. Strictly speaking, the Spring Festival starts every year in the early days of the 12th lunar month and will last till the mid first lunar month of the next year. Of them the most important days are the Spring Festival Eve and the first three day.
Children like the festival very much, because they can have delicious food and wear new clothes. They can also get red packet from their parents. This most red packet is given to children for good luck.
Before the New Year comes, people completely clean the indoors and outdoors of their homes as well as their clothes, bed clothes and all their utensils. Then people begin decorating their clean rooms featuring an atmosphere of rejoicing and festivity.
All the door panels will be pasted with Spring Festival couplets highlighting Chinese calligraphy with black characters on red paper. The content varies from house owners,wishes for a bright future to good luck for the New Year.

Ask students to read the following structures over and over again unless they can speak fluently.

【设计意图】在口语对话之前,教师提供给学生一些描述节日经历的句型,学生通过阅读,获取相关信息,为口语活动提供背景常识和语言结构,使得有话可说。
Step Ⅱ 应用实践
活动五:描述与阐释(Part3,P7)
1.Ask students to read the conversation in Part 3 and underline the phrases that express feelings about festivals.
Suggested answers:
It was great;It’s always exciting for me;It’s good to spend time with my family;although it can get a bit boring my hometown;I loved watching the traditional performances;The fireworks going off throughout the night were really annoying;Everything was fine;I’m really looking forward to the next festival
2.Ask students to role-play the conversation with their partner.
【设计意图】英语课堂教学中,在学生在有充分准备的情况下,设计口语讨论活动,能够调动课堂气氛,使学生在轻松愉快的环境中学习,并激发学生主动学习的愿望,发展学生语言运用的能力。
